Is anyone interested in WWdN merchandise?

  • WWdN in Exile

Before I put in the time and effort to make some new WWdN merchandise for the WWdN CafePress store, I’m looking for a show of hands: is anyone interested in some WWdN gear, like T-shirts and stuff?

I don’t have the time or desire to run a store myself, or take the risk of buying a lot of stock ahead of time. I would not be doing this for shiny gold rocks as much as I’d be doing it for the fun and to increase the chances that I’d be out in the world doing my thing one day, and see someone wearing a WWdN T-shirt, and to "spread the virus" as Jonathan Coulton says.

Stats tell me that about 200K people are reading my blog (man, that’s a lot and is so very weird) so if about 100 or so of you guys chime in, I think it would be enough to make it worth the time and expense of paying a designer to put something together.

I’m a huge fan of American Apparel, so I’m thinking about moving to Spreadshirt if I do this. Obviously, I’m not going to bother if there isn’t enough interest, though. I am supposed to be writing, after all.

I would buy thousands of your shirts and wear them all at once. . .Really, put me down for one or two and make sure they are boss. Also, see if you can make one a hot-pink tankini fishnet half-shirt. I won’t buy one, but it would be funny if somebody did.

I vote yes. Especially if you use spreadshirt.

You totally should do it. But I don’t think you need to pay a designer, just make a contest or something for WWdN readers to make something (I bet there are graphic design geeks out there that read this blog) and give them a free shirt as a prize (and mention how awsome they are in the blog and I’m sure they’ll be tickled pink)!
I would love to be able to spread the virus!

Yes, please. Two good reasons: more excuses to give you money for being cool and more tshirts that give me an opening to spread teh holy Words of Wheaton.

I’m broke after the con this weekend, but when I have money again, I would love to buy t-shirts! 😉

    Chime chime chiming in…..
    Sure….long sleeve black something, please.

Just a thought: IMHO, skreened.com wins out on usability from a seller’s perspective. And they only do American Apparel.

Hell yeah, put me down for a shirt for sure. What you might want to consider, though, is a line of little stuffed monkeys similar to Darwin, with a WWdN shirt or cap or whatever to brand it. Hell, even multiple sizes. I’d buy one for my 13 month old, the Mrs., my parents…
    /not kidding
//shouldn’t have brought his Fark slashies with him

Another “hell yes” here. Preferably something black, or at least not white. I agree with honeyduk about wanting another excuse to give you money for being cool.

To everyone who mentioned CafePress, could you say when you bought something from them and what it was?
I sell through CafePress (and other Print on Demand places, and I make my own stuff). CafePress has had some low quality stuff before (especially if you didn’t design right for it) but they have really raised the bar lately and are not doing heat transfers anymore.
If you’d rather not reply in public feel free to send an email 🙂
PS I’m checking out skreened 🙂

Funny you should mention this, today I was looking around on cafepress thinking about selling some of my wife’s art, looked at your page for the wil has a posse tshirt and didn’t see any merch. I would have probably impulse bought something today if that is a factor.
Note- NOBODY should use deviantART. They sell the print for 60 bucks and the artist share is 7? Ouch.

  12. netbob says:

I’d buy one AND pay with shiny gold rocks which you could put in the bank (along with your other shiny gold rock.)
Please do not put a “heart” on your t-shirts i.e. “I heart The Thompson Twins” (thanks MTV from 1983 – now Hold Me Now is stuck in my head. Thanks Wil.)

  13. Sespetoxri says:

I’d buy some stuffs too! Love the books, so I’d show my support.

  14. Clay says:

    I’m in.
Just please, please, please… no WWDN thongs… unless they have a photo of you throwing the goat on them.
    😉

Ooo ooooo ME! I’d totally be all over some WWdN gear.

  16. rod says:
    28 January, 2008 at 5:54 pm

Mostly Definitely! You have to have some smart ass comment on at least one. That would be the one I would buy. I love the Science one from the other site especially since I work in a lab.

  17. Magda says:
    28 January, 2008 at 5:54 pm

Absolutely, I’d by some WWdN merch. Also, I just like the word “merch.” It’s got that hip-yet-lame vibe that I’m such a fan of.

  18. zani says:
    28 January, 2008 at 5:55 pm

I’d totally buy something! And I second the ‘girls-cut’ shirt idea 🙂

    Raises hand.
    I’ll take one.

I would definitely buy a t shirt or three.

Well I’ve already got my WWDN thong (umm I uh, made that myself) lol
Nah, I bought the book, and I’d definately buy a tshirt.
As long as it’s not floral.

How’s about a big ol’ pic of Wil, big smile, thumbs up or some such positive gesture, and take the quote from the top of this site and plaster it right underneath.
    Don’t Be A Dick!

  24. Clinton the Trekkie says:

I’d love a new WWdN shirt. I have one of the “Obey” shirts, but, one can never have too many WWdN shirts, after all.
    I vote “yes”

  25. MacGod says:
    28 January, 2008 at 6:27 pm

    I am interested, Wil.
Looked at the current crop, but not sure about that style.
Maybe we should have a shirt of your image in white silhouette on black shirt, kind of like a revolutionary shirt…
    I like the Don’t Be A Dick! tag-line.
    🙂
    Can’t wait!
    Bill

I would wear a “Wil says don’t be a dick” shirt, but it would have to have the picture of you in the clown sweater.

  30. kristinalead says:
    28 January, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Absolutely. As long as you have women’s v-neck tees…

  31. angie k says:

Awww, and I just bought two of the old designs. 🙂
Yes, yes of course I’d be interested in some new WWdN gear! 🙂

I bought a beer stein for the hubby from cafe press about a year ago. Was fairly decent quality and the logo has held up pretty well but I would recommend hand washing. 🙂

  33. Gordon Nelson says:
    28 January, 2008 at 6:52 pm

I think t-shirt, and the WWdN sticker are good ideas.
I don’t know how the selling part works, but I have made my own t-shirts using Zazzle and was really happy at the quality.

  34. CarrieSue says:

    Of course.

Shinny rocks for colorful skins? Sounds good to me.

  37. WTL says:

I recently bought three shirts from Insanely Great Tees (.com), which are American Apparel, and they shipped them to Canada for $8.
I was so happy, especially after seeing how much ThinkGeek was going to charge (nearly as much as the tshirts).

  38. engnr-chik says:
    28 January, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Yes, please. Or how about some sort of cubicle toy with your face on it?

  39. Pai says:

    Absolutely!

  40. Thumper says:
    28 January, 2008 at 7:19 pm

    ::raises hand:::
I would probably buy a shirt. Especially a hoodie that’s not gray or white…

  41. SandieK says:
    28 January, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Woah. I completely forgot you had that cafepress thingy.
That being said. YES I would buy stuff.
    I need more t shirts.
…ignore the box under the bed. I need more shirts.
    =D

  42. leathej1 says:
    28 January, 2008 at 7:27 pm

I’m more of an embroidered scarf person, actually. Can you work that into the mix?

  43. Thomas says:
    28 January, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Yes, but if I am going to spend the cash, I’d enjoy it if it were smart and funny quotes. Heck my GF picked me up a book this weekend and I’ll pay the cash, but Wil have fun with it.

  44. Squirrelgnome says:
    28 January, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Please oh please come out with a “Don’t be a dick” t-shirt. It will make my wife cringe, but I’ll wear it with pride.
Also a WWdN in binary would be quite teh awesome.

  45. Wendy May says:
    28 January, 2008 at 7:52 pm

    Ummmm hello?
Actually that would be nice seeing as my WWDN (Obey style) shirt is only good as a nightie now-I cut the neck out and it’s the perfect layin’ round the house shirt. Soft and worn. So it’d be cool to have a shirt I could wear out-I can alternate it with my Hawesome shirt. Actually, the coolest thing is running into people who know where the shirt is from… Although everyone at Argentum had fun teasing me about “What would Wil Wheaton do?” Tell Stacey hey next time you see him, willya? 🙂

  46. caitlen315 says:
    28 January, 2008 at 8:00 pm

I agree with a few people above – I’d buy a shirt, but only if it was particularly cool. I’m not really interested in something that looks like you just threw a WWdN logo on it. And I second Thrasher‘s comment – why not have a contest for your readers to design a shirt? I think there are a few people out there who could come up with something radical. (yay MTV 1983)

  47. Starr01 says:
    28 January, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Yes I believe I would be interested. Tshirt &/or mug 🙂

  48. caitlen315 says:
    28 January, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Oh, and I second (third? fifth?) the comments about girly shirts. I’m 4’freakin10″ and there’s nothing like wanting a shirt, but only being able to buy it in ‘nightgown’ size. Anything that’s only available in men’s sizes is too big for me to wear out of the house.

  49. noromdiam says:
    28 January, 2008 at 8:05 pm

I want some Wil Wheaton all over my chest next time I go to ComicCon.
Maybe a shirt that says, “Wesley Crusher’s booty call”. That’d be pretty awesome.

  50. Rachel H says:

I’d love to buy WWdN merchandise. And I agree that you should have a contest too…
