Ah. Jazz. I love Jazz, so I don’t know why I don’t have more Jazz CD’s in my collection. Anyway, I bought this because my father was always into Dave Brubeck (my dad got this when it was new), so…
What’s cool about Brubeck is the fact that he still plays live gigs. He just turned 87 in December. Not like he’s gonna run around like an 80’s metal head, but the fact that he is STILL out there from time to time is amazing.

Wil — I tagged this for myself a few days ago when you first posted it and, man, it was worth the wait.
Before my foray into print journalism, I was a radio man and spent a good number of years at a college jazz radio station in Memphis. We played everything from big band to contemporary stuff to “new age.”
Prior to this, I thought jazz was only something my dad liked and was humbled to find myself loving this music in my 20s (I’m 42 now). So much so that while most of my collection is “smooth jazz,” I have a copy of this most classic of Brubeck albums.
I’ve never seen the piece — hell, I’ve never seen the Quartet — live before so this was a real treat. The song as a whole is fantastic, but it is, indeed, Morello’s drum work that makes it so special, IMO.
By the way, I was wondering what prompted you to post it, but am very, very glad you did.

If you enjoy jazz and drummers… you should check out Dave Weckl. It is inspiring to watch the fluidity of his drumming.
Also, for jazz… Brian Bromberg – best upright bass player I’ve ever seen.
Ah… this is one of my personal faves. I loved playing this in college. And by playing, I’m not talking about listening to the record, I’m talking about playing it, on my alto sax, in various jazz small-groups (quartets and quintets). That was back in the day, when I was still a music major, and didn’t worry about things like supporting myself financially.
