50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

just nod if you can hear me

  • WWdN in Exile

I spent the last four days in Bat Country, while recovering from major sinus surgery. I’ll spare the gory (and oh my god are they gory) details, but when all this packing comes out of my sinuses on Tuesday, I can look forward to not snoring all night and waking up with a skull crushing sinus headache for the first time in about ten years. I’m planning a party, all by myself with some toast and a cup of coffee.

I don’t think I’ll be posting much until I’m back to normal, but I didn’t want anyone to think I’ll fallen down a well next to little Timmy Turner.O’Toole. (My bad. I’m so full of painkillers and meds that all I can do ism, nsdnsakazza, mmp.)

Unless Sting wants to write a song about it, in which case, please send your love down the well.

“Wishing you a speedy recovery” sounds so Hallmark doesn’t it?
Allow me instead to offer advice while recovering from surgery on pain medication…
Do not play “Portal”. It will mess.you.up. Trust me. πŸ™‚
    Get better soon!

You will soon get the joy of discovering what the world really smells like. Just a hint: generally good.
Just don’t sneeze till the packing is out. If you do do it somewhere eash to clean up.

Here’s to a successful surgery and speed recovery.

Whoa, rest up, dude and dinnae worry about us!
I’ve been putting off getting the surgeon to take a chisel to my nose for a deviated septum (I can scrunch my nose and seal my nostrils completely – makes a minor cold a major aggrivation, in addition to making me sound even NERDIER ^_^ ) but maybe I should see about having my nostrils widened enough – at least my wife is a heavy enough sleeper that my snoring can’t wake her…
Best wishes, rest well, Wil, and happy St.V’s day for you and Anne!

An excuse to lie back in bed all day and do nothing but watch Firefly and Doctor Who reruns? That’s worth major surgery, I should think.

    For that poor little boy,
    Who’s stuck halfway to hell,
Though we can’t get him out,
We’ll do the next best thing,
    We go on TV,
    And sing, sing, sing.
And we’re sending our love down the well,
    All the way down!

I’ve had problems with sinus infections and headaches since I was a kid. One doctor recommended investigating sinus surgery to me, but it sounded too drastic. I’ll be curious to hear how it goes post-op.

  22. AdamK says:
    10 February, 2008 at 12:14 pm

I’ve had sinus surgery myself and I can say the pain and discomfort are well worth it for the end result.
I used to get 4 to 5 sinus infection every year, snore terribly and not be able to breathe easily. Now, all sorted.
The advice from jsb above is very true I found that out the hard way.
Oh and don’t set your heart on the coffee I wasn’t able to go near steam for what seemed like the longest time. I tell you lukewarm showers got old quickly.
Get well soon and just think of the wonderful new smells you’ll soon be experiencing.

  23. Kate says:
    10 February, 2008 at 12:24 pm

Oh ugh. I have had like 4 or 5 of those surgeries (there is a point where you lose count, I guess). Packing is the worst. Once the packing comes out it gets much easier! Hang in there!

  24. JennyW says:

  26. Topaz says:
    10 February, 2008 at 1:06 pm

It was “Timmy O’Toole” who fell down the well, dear, not Timmy Turner. But considering you’re recovering from surgery, I won’t hold that slip against you. :>)
Gotta love a man who references “The Simpsons” after his sinuses have been blasted and packed. You are a wonder, sir.
Glad to hear you’re still among the living, Wil. Blessings on your recovery!

  27. Greg says:
    10 February, 2008 at 1:22 pm

Oh man, Wil. I feel your pain.
Before I had my adnoids and tonsils removed (now I’m the ONLY one in the family that DOESN’T snore!), I had an incident where my nose wouldn’t stop bleeding..long story longer…they packed my sinuses. PACKED.
An entire gauze bandage and then some.
I didn’t think that much could fit in there!

  28. Colin F says:
    10 February, 2008 at 1:37 pm

Sounds like the same thing my wife had done to her sinuses. You should feel much better after the dust settles.
    Rest up, Dude!

were you given painkillers? if so, stay away from anything that could be potentially trippy, unless that’s how you like to roll ;p
at the risk of sounding too hallmark, get better soon! then you can enjoy your happier sinuses!

  32. Celtic Mama says:
    10 February, 2008 at 2:21 pm

Timmy Turner is on The Fairly Oddparents. With 4 kids I end up watching it every day. πŸ™‚ I’m sure Wil wishes his fairy godparents could wish out the packing and the pain and be back to normal.

  33. rmd says:

i am continually amazed at how much space the sinuses take up.
and how much they can store. it’s like the tardis of the body. just when i think i’ve emptied my sinuses, a new tsunami of icky bodily fluids erupts. there’s some kind of alternate dimension that is using humans to drain their toxic phlegm thru sinus wormholes.
i think the gaseous toxins are handled through dog farts, tho.

  34. rmd says:

Hi, Wil! I’m glad you’re feeling better—hopefully you’ll feel MUCH better.
A friend of mine also has pretty unhappy sinus problems. I hadn’t heard of this type of surgery before; I’ll have to urge him to check that out.
    Rest up!

    Hey Wil-
I’m 31 and I have a feeling I’m going to have to have some sinus surgery someday myself, so I sympathize with what you’re going through! Just the word “packing” makes me queasy, but hopefully you’ll get well soon.

Dude – my husband has been putting that surgery off for several years, despite hearing from my cousin, who’s now had the surgery TWICE, how wonderful it is. So hope springs eternal, ya know?
From what I hear, it will change your life in ways you can’t even contemplate. Feel better soon!

  44. danamongden says:

Twenty years ago I had sinus surgery to clean out a drug-resistant infection. The anesthetic almost killed me, and I came out of it determined to live my life to the fullest. I met my wife two months later.
Have fun with your party, but I think my surgery worked better than yours. πŸ˜€

been there, done that. 3 years ago. The cute mustache bandage was the best part I think. But honestly, it was amazing once it healed, I could actually breathe.
Good luck with the healing, and enjoy trying to sleep sitting upright.
