in which i indirectly traumatize my friend’s son

  • WWdN in Exile

My friend Otis, who I worked with at the 2006 WSOP in Vegas for the PokerStars blog, wrote an awesome story about how I indirectly traumatized his son, with my recommendation of the Color Coded Criminals shirt from Threadless:

Wil Wheaton (a guy who will occasionally refer to himself as West Coast Otis), tipped me off to the shirt a few days ago.  He and I occasionally get into the same things.  This shirt was one of them.

“Is Mr. Orange a baby?” my son asked.

My wife sensed that I was struggling to accomodate my son’s curiosity without telling the whole story.

“He’s crying like a baby,” my wife said. I half expected her to say,
“Hey, just cancel that shit right now! You’re hurt. You’re hurt really
fucking bad, but you ain’t dying. Say the goddamn words! You’re gonna
be okayyyyyy!”

You’ve got to read the entire thing, because while what I’ve quoted is funny, it’s really just set up for the fantastic payoff. While you’re there, read some more of Otis’ blog, and you may understand why I can never tell where West Coast Otis ends and East Coast Wil begins.

I’m so out of the know. Anyway, off topic but will you ever write for TV Squad again or is that a done deal?

I noticed a traffic spike and thought…”Chew? Toby Chew?” Wife shut me up fast.
“For the past fifteen minutes now, you’ve just been droning on with names. ‘Toby…Toby…Toby…Toby Wong…Toby Wong…Toby Chung…fuckin Charlie Chan.”
Have a good weekend, nice guy.

I love that shirt. I’m glad it’s available, again, to traumatize 3 year olds, everywhere.
Hey, by the way, I read on the Skepchick website that they’d like you for their calendar…

Thought I’d pass it along. 😉

For some reason when I read the title via li”ve feed, I thought I saw in which i indirectly traumatize my son’s friend” instead of ‘friends son’. I do it all the time, and it gets annoying.
I love kid stories like that. It reminds me of some of the more absurd camper conversations from summers past.

Hi Otis, I’m glad people took the time to follow the link – some funny stuff on your blog! Now I know what to buy hubby (after the little one is a bit older…!).

    Hi Wil-
I don’t know if you’re still into LOST, and if you are, if you listen to the Jay & Jack podcast on iTunes. There was a particular J&J episode that I thought you’d be interested in; it’s episode 2.68, and it’s called “Tropical Depression.” In the middle of the podcast, there’s a radio interview with J.J. Abrams that I think you’d really enjoy. I would have e-mailed you, but I know it’s easier to get in touch with you on your blog. I hope you don’t mind!

Hey Wil, no trauma… no trauma.
BTW: saw “Walter” on CSI last night… somehow I’d managed to miss every other time it showed, but since I’m down with a nasty sinus thing (not as bad as yours though) I stayed on the sofa last night and watched five solid hours of CSI!
    Good job!

    Just wow.
    I love your blog, btw.

Dude…. DUDE… would it kill ya to post a link to the shirt, or to at least take a fucking picture of it, so that the rest of us know what the hell it looks like? I dunno about anyone else, but I hate hearing half a story…
    PLEASE… Don’t Be A Dick!

Dake: Dude…DUDE…click the link tagged “tipped me off to the shirt” and it’ll take you to Wil’s previous post about it, which includes a picture of it.
    Chill out, bud.

Lol, I read his story and it made me smile. I have a 4 year old and when she sees the shirt (i just bought it) the scenerio would be completely different. She is wise behind her years…often telling me how people need to learn how to fucking drive or after a particularly long night with the newborn she tells her father that i just need some alone time. I feel she will ask about the shirt and I will tell her about the movie and how he was dying and she will respond with a “cool” and later wanting to watch the movie.(She loves TeamFortress 2 for some reason). I have gotten her several shirts from Threadless and I will probably have to get this one for her too.

Uh, Andrew, not to be a dick, but no it doesn’t… unless you need SUPER SPECIAL DECODER Glasses! to see it… I dunno, maybe the pic was in the very-first blog about the shirt? Cuz I don’t see a pic!

  14. Andrew says:

Clicking on “tipped me off to the shirt” takes you to a prior blog entry that includes a Threadless pic of the shirt and a lovely young lady modeling the shirt. I suspect, but did not try, that clicking on the picture will take you to Threadless where you can see a BIG version of the picture.
If you clicked through and didn’t see the pic, then I don’t know what to tell you, because it’s right there.

On the blog titled, “and now, little green bag” right? what the hell… how come I don’t see a picture? Is it a browser-specific picture?

    Dake-
Yep, you were in the right spot, and you should have seen the picture. I don’t know if this will work, but try going here (click or copy & paste, if this works at all):

ok, I saw it on the link… (Thanks, Alicia) but I still can’t see it on the post… I wonder if it’s related to my inability to see the XKCD comic about Rock Band… I can see every other XKCD comic, but the “rock band” one just doesn’t show up… anyone else have this problem?

You’re welcome, Dake. I’m glad I was able to help. I wish I had a clue about your other question, but I’m just not very computer literate.
