50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

saturday morning flashback

  • Television

Set the wayback machine for the early 80s, Sherman. Any Saturday morning will do . . .

I was such a nerd, I thought Timer was actually kind of cool. He taught us how to be healthy through song!

I was such a nerd, I thought the Dungeons  & Dragons cartoon was really cool.

Except for Uni. I hated that stupid little Scrappy Doo idiot.

Remember how excited you were to see your favorite video games become cartoons? The only thing that could have been better for a kid in 1983 would have been turning your favorite video games into a cereal!

Hmm . . . on second thought, maybe not.

Happy Saturday, everyone.

As someone who likes the interweb, free software, and nostalgia, I figured you’d enjoy this link to Run Some Old Browsers Day

I LOVED the Dungeons & Dragon cartoon! Wow. I am so glad I didn’t read this until Monday. I really needed a good Monday pick me up. Now, if I could only get my hands on that purple cloak. 🙂

The Kingdom of Could Be Funky Childhood Self-Help Cartoons

Thanks to Wil Wheaton for this post and a trip back to Saturday mornings. Mentioned in the comments was The Kingdom of Could Be You, and yoicks – it’s frightening how many of the opening lyrics to this gem I

Yay for the Dungeon’s & Dragons cartoon! We loved it so much we made an homage to Hank – because everybody wanted to be Ranger! – not to mention that the Smurfs were so annoying we came back for revenge years later 🙂

D&D was far superior to my husband’s favourite cartoon of the 80s – Mysterious Cities of Gold (don’t know if you had that in the US).
I liked Uni. It never ceased to upset me when they couldn’t go back because Bobby couldn’t take Uni with him (they should’ve left Bobby behind too, but that’s just bitterness talking).
The best part of 80s cartoon nostalgia is singing the theme tunes, loudly. Whilst dancing. Sat on your chair, of course.
Did you lot in the US get any of our kids cartoons on BBC America? If not, you really missed out 🙁

Wow… I feel old. Thanks for the flashbacks to Timer and “You can do it, you can do the Pac-Man” (to which, sadly, I remembered all the lyrics…)

OMG – I still find myself singing “I hanker for a hunk of cheese” whenever I think of cheese! How awful is that??? heehee

Wil, Bless you for posting this! Gawd, Saturday Supercade was one of my favorite shows, followed appropriately by PacMan, Super Mario Brothers, and Droids.
I gotta look and see if anyone’s posted any of those Saturday Morning Preview shows from way back then. Anyone remember that one with R2-D2, C3PO, and Mary Lou Retton?
…but if I see one damned Monchichi on there, Hari Kari’s in order…
