50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

this is awesome. awesome in pants!

  • Television

Teaser from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog on Vimeo.
I’ve been hearing about this for weeks, but didn’t have time to watch the trailer until this morning. I was super excited to see that my fellow ACME-alumnus Felicia Day (one of the mad geniuses behind the hilarious-because-it’s-painfully-true series The Guild) got to work with Neil Patrick Harris and Joss Whedon.
I can’t wait to see this, and I thought I’d share it with WWdN readers, because it seems to be the sort of thing a lot of you guys probably already know about — er, I mean, would really dig.

I already knew about, uh, I mean, I would totally dig this!
Also, I saw your tweet about your uke crush and thought you might enjoy this cover of Skullcrusher Mountain by the New England Ukulele Orchestra.

Man, what kind of sci fi nerd are you?! Felicia Day had already worked with Joss Whedon; she was one of the “potentials” on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Now is the time on Sprockets where Wil loses all of his geek points: I’ve never watched a single episode of Buffy, not even Hush.
I know, I know. I’ve been scolded by everyone in the world about this, but it just didn’t interest me when it was in its first run, and I’ve never gotten around to watching it on DVD.
If it’s on Netflix On Demand, though, I can start watching it when my Roku arrives.

I say you get to keep geek points for quoting Sprockets. That’s just me, though.
I used to watch Buffy constantly in high school (along with assorted Star Trek episodes, but you already knew that…), but then I re-discovered Dark Angel and discovered Doctor Who, so my geekiness went thataway.
Having said that, I am DEFINITELY seeing that when it comes out. The trailer induced massive lulz that will probably piss off the mean old lady upstairs, but meh. She needs a little laughter in her life, and I’ll be damned if she keeps me from getting mine! *shakes fist at the ceiling*

It is every bit as awesome as one would think it is going to be, (and a little bit more- because Joss is just that much better than we are).
My house was actually used as Doctor Horrible’s Lair.
*Another* TV show redid it (Monster House) as a Mad Scientist’s Lair and in a strange bit of coincidence / luck, one of my friends was the AD on Dr. Horrible.
When they were brainstorming on how they were going to create an evil villain’s lair on no budget, he had the pleasure of saying “Well, I know a guy…” They didn’t believe him until they saw the pictures. To answer the question everyone asks, yes. It always looks like that. Just not lit quite as well.
I had the rather unique and enjoyable experience of watching them work and film all of the Lair sequences in my living room. I wrote briefly about the experience here
    http://lifeofreilly.livejournal.com/597100.html
(Don’t worry, spoiler free). But it was pretty awesome. I get to say “Hey! I can see my house from here!…” 😉
To paraphrase an old SNL Sketch, “Television has been bery bery good to me…”

I’m even more excited about it now!

Ooh, shiny. More Captain Reynolds…er, I mean Nathan Fillion. I don’t think I’ve disliked him in anything, even Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place.

It’s a small world we live in. A friend of mine from Louisiana just came out for a Librarian convention and she tells me that after she visits with me she’s going to go see another friend, Seth. Seth Wiley. She asks if I know him (based on the fact that I work peripherally in tv/film) and I say, no. She says ‘he hasn’t done a lot yet, but that he’s really proud of this short he did with that kid from star tr–‘ I interrupt her at that point with ‘Wil Wheaton?’ She gets this startled but amused look on her face (she knows I’m a big dork). Anyway, just thought I’d share a random six degrees story. Cheers.

Wil, I’ll see your !Buffy and raise you a !Angel and !Firefly.
I knew LOTS of very annoying people who Would. Not. Stop. Talking. About. Buffy. So I sorta got conditioned away from wanting to see it, or anything else Joss has done. Nothing against him or his work, I’m sure it’s fine, but I’m so very uninterested.
(Note: Not an invitation to convert me. Don’t even waste your breath. Truly. Couldn’t possibly care less about ever seeing any of those shows. Life’s too short and I have podcasts to catch up on.)

Wow – I’ll definitely have to check that out when I’m not at work. Felicia Day rocks – in an it’s-totally-unfair-that-anybody-could-be-that-beautiful-AND-that-talented sort of way.

Speaking of Seth Wiley, I’ve been jonesing to watch “The Good Things” again for a long time now. tollboothmovie.com is nonexistent now. Sad day.

It’s just this fact of life that Joss is Boss. The rest of us are simply minions, waiting on his every word.

  17. Kristen says:

Hey Wil– speaking of Hulu and of Buffy, you can watch Buffy at Hulu. Seasons 1 and 2, at least. It’s not perfect in every way like Firefly, but it’s still better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
And until you do, you cannot wear your Joss Whedon is My Master Now t-shirt. So HA!

  18. Kristen says:
    1 July, 2008 at 11:21 am

Oh, and you’re up on Hulu, too. Your episode of Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show, that is.
Apparently no one at Hulu is Jewish, though, because they credit you as playing the role of “Moshi Schwartz”.

“I’ve never watched a single episode of Buffy, not even Hush.”
Dude. You just lost major geek points.
I thought you and your readers might like to know the Dr. Horrible schedule. Here’s an excerpt from a Joss post on whedonesque dot com:
ONE WEEK ONLY! AN INTERNET MINISERIES EVENT!
“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” will be streamed, LIVE (that part’s not true), FREE (sadly, that part is) right on Drhorrible.com, in mid-July. Specifically:
ACT ONE (Wheee!) will go up Tuesday July 15th.
ACT TWO (OMG!) will go up Thursday July 17th.
ACT THREE (Denouement!) will go up Saturday July 19th.
All acts will stay up until midnight Sunday July 20th. Then they will vanish into the night, like a phantom (but not THE Phantom – that’s still playing. Like, everywhere.)

Did you hear (considering you were at ComicCon this is a dumb question but indulge me) that there will be an ACT 4?!
I hope Joss “McKills-Wash-Book-Tara-and-goddamnit-now-Penny” Whedon will bring her back or…argh! I just want a magical ‘let’s revive Buffy and then have a sing-fest” moment!
