Blue Light Mashup – part one

  • WWdN in Exile

I’ve been forcing myself to take a real vacation and not do any actual work until Monday, but I’m starting to get antsy.

Rather than break my commitment to my slothful ways and, you know, create something, I thought I’d share something really spiffy that I can’t believe I never put on my blog before.

This, dear friends, is why I release everything I do to the Creative Commons. Because you never know when someone’s going to take something you made and do something cool with it.

I’ll put up Part 2 tomorrow.

Edited to add: Here’s how on-vacation my brain is: I totally missed the obvious opportunity to use this post as an excuse to plug the audio version of The Happiest Days of Our Lives, which includes the story Blue Light Special. It’s just $19.72! Cheap!

Damn. You were making the most of Star Wars figures two years before I was born. Usually I feel old, but you just made me feel like I should get off someone else’s damn lawn, not yell at kids to get off of mine.
Thanks, Wil, and can’t wait to see part 2!

Like the “Greedo, shoots second God dammit version” the most 🙂

That did it!! Listening to you tell the “Blue Light Special” is so much better than just reading the book (although that is pretty terrific!!), I am forced to buy the audio version. It’s only right, since I’m one of the 300. But I was resisting the urge, so far, until I heard this.
    Damn you, Wheaton!!

Totally reminds me of my childhood spent under the kitchen table that doubled as the Millennium Falcon. Except I had my ‘girly’ stuffed animals and My Little Ponies standing in for Han and Leia.

Great blog filler while on vacation.
BTW – does your vacation include a trip to the Hall Of Liberty at F.L. tomorrow morning?

I’m so excited that you’re coming to Phoenix Comicon again this year. Can’t wait for a chance to see you! (and probably give you more of my money 😉

Sounds like you played nice with your action figures… My Luke had half his face burned off from piloting my model rockets. I made a land speeder with an Erector Set and powered it with a gas model airplane engine with a pusher prop… 3PO lost an arm to it.
I had kinda forgotten about Blue Light Specials. One time when no one was looking, my buddy grabbed the mic for the PA and announced “Attention K-Mart shoppers, for the next 5 minutes, everything in your cart is 95% off.” People were just sweeping stuff off the shelf into their carts and making a mad dash for the checkout. >:)

I remember playing Star Wars with my two cousins. We’d gather all of our figures together in the den. We’d spend hours enacting + reenacting stories and plot lines from our own creations. They were both boys and I’d become irritated when they would make me play Leia. She was cool and all but grr, it didn’t mean that I was any less rankled.
Thanks for the memories. It makes me wish I saved my SW trading cards, bright blue 8-track of the first film complete with dialogue and metal lunch box.
    Ah, good times.

Cool, my sister (amity1976) made that! I can’t wait to show her it’s on your blog (and remind her that she really needs to finish part 3 😉 ).
The funny thing is we were just listening to the audio version of Happiest Days in the car yesterday on a drive back from Orlando.

Wow – I’m honored that it got posted here and I’m so glad people liked it 🙂 Of course, it was all inspired by Wil’s awesome story and the great memories of Star Wars action figures it brought back.
And yes, kelly, i’ll finish part 3…one day 😉

I only ever had the Luke Skywalker “Ken”-type doll. He was in love with my Pretty in Pink Barbie…

I still have my old Millennium Falcon and some action figures. I’m tempted to set them up and play with them for a while.

This is pretty surreal for me, since I was in the audience for this reading!

I actually didn’t get caught up in Star Wars. My family was always Trek. But the whole bit is universal. Parents: save save save! Kids: But, I want toys!
