50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

hit robots, make fall down

  • Television

I'm writing this on Wednesday afternoon, before I start packing for the Phoenix Comicon, where I'll be when this post magically appears on my blog, so please forgive me if there's some timely current event I should be talking about; I can't really travel through time, you know.

If I've done everything correctly, my episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold has just finished airing on Cartoon Network in the Eastern time zone, and even though I'm at a con and can't participate for another 24 or 48 hours, I'd love to hear what you thought of the show, and my performance as Ted Kord.

I'd avoid the comments on this post until you've seen the show, so anyone who wants to be the captain of the SS Spoiler can take a turn at the helm without upsetting anyone else.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the episode, and that all the build up this week paid off.

Congrats Wil on a great episode! Tonight’s Batman: Brave and the Bold was excellent. Oh how I miss Ted Kord and all his awesome gadgets.

Very good episode. I thought you needed more action and some more one liners. I like how they paid homage to all the blue beetles. Although if you knew Ted Kord died in the comic books then you knew what to expect. You should do another character on the show because i don’t think their going to bring Ted Kord back to life unless some more flashbacks with the new blue beetle wanting to know more about the blue beetles over all. Again very good episode.

Overall, I was annoyed. But I won’t repeat my long rant here. It’s over at http://strredwolf.livejournal.com/528535.html and solidly deserves my “You interrupted my coffee for this?” logo.
Your performance as Ted Kord, however, was perfect and was actually the highlights of the episode. We could use more episodes of the Ted Kord Blue Beetle.
Now only if they can improve the writing on the rest and make Bats’ face less flat… oooooh the days of Paul Dini’s Batman: The Animated Series.

I thought Ted Kord’s final scene in the episode was your best acting, personally.
All in all, awesome episode. I liked the banter between Silver Age Blue Beetle and Batman. Like, man, these guys must have roomed in college or something. Totally believable.

Wil, great job! I loved Blue Beetle and Batman discussing their gadgetry while fighting bad guys and lasers. I really enjoyed it. Two thumbs up!

Eastern. For some reason, when you said “8pm” I assume you meant LA time. With you living there and such.
Crap. Crapping crapdoodles crapping crap-flavoured crapulence.
    Bittorrent it is, then.

So the line which you made the title of this post… knew it was coming, still laughed. Great delivery. You played your character very convincingly and lent him some real personality — even the yells when he got hit.
So now I should say something bad about the episode to lend me some ‘critic’ credit, but right now I think I’ll watch it again when it comes on Cartoon Network West Coast. :o)
    Good job, Wil!

Awesome episode, Wil. The only real problem with it is that we can’t expect regular Ted Kord appearances in the future! Me, I’d love to see you starring in a regular Blue Beetle series…

Great stuff. Between that episode and BSG tonight I was a happy TV viewer.
Here’s to hoping that someday the writers of Brave and the Bold find an excuse to tell more ‘flashback’ stories with your Blue Beetle.

Through some amazing coincidence of the universe, I got into Batman the Brave and the Bold right before I learned you were doing a voice on it. I love it when awesome things merge unexpectedly!
The episode was great! I loved your Blue Beetle- he was fun. The benefit of not knowing anything about the Beetle to start with is that the flashbacks are an unexpected adventure. The drawback is that I’m dying to learn more, and have no way of knowing if there will be any more Ted Kord flashback episodes.
Wil, you have your instructions – if you hear any plans for more Kord episodes, you are to accept voicing roles that are offered! (I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t pretty sure you’d do it anyway).

I loved the episode. I’m having so much fun watching Brave & Bold with my eight year old. It’s been his introduction to super heroes!
    Great job, Wil.

I thought the episode was fun, but with all the buildup around you doing Ted’s voice, I was really hoping we’d see more of the flashbacks. I thought you made Ted sound fun and believable, and made the technobabble seem very real without breaking the flow of the back and forth. 🙂

I set my DVR specifically so I could watch this since I’m not familiar with this Batman series.
Your work was spot on. The back and forth banter was great and the one liners were perfect.
I’ve now subsequently downloaded the other episodes of the show. Excellent work.

Thank you so much for putting all you did into your portrayal! It was great to finally see Ted in animated form, and you had him spot on! This Beetle fan is immensely pleased.

I enjoyed it, and thought you did a fantastic job as Ted Kord. I love him like crazy, and you completely delivered. Thank you very much for doing service to the awesomeness that is Blue Beetle [II.]
[Tell them there should be another flashback episode with Ted and Booster! Or an entire show.]

I really enjoyed your performance, although since I’m not familiar with the comics I was confused half of the episode since I didn’t realize Jarvis Kord was a different character than Ted Kord but I could tell it was a different voice. I’m still not in love with this new Batman incarnation, but it is amusing, and I thought the tech gadget speak between Silver Age Blue Beetle and Batman was fun! Hope you get to do more animation soon!

‘Brave and the Bold’ is such a fun show to watch. And with the Ted Kord Blue Beetle one of my favorite comic book characters, this did not disappoint.
My only beef? I wanted more Ted Kord (and Wil Wheaton)!

  28. The Stray Girl says:

The banter about the gadgetry was definitely my fave part too. Excellent work overall, by the way. You’re indeed multitalented. 🙂

I was incredibly disappointed to discover that Teletoon’s Sunday morning Batman: The Brave and the Bold is not actually the same as the one that plays in the US a day or two earlier. Very, very, very disappointed. There may have been tears.
    (There were no tears.)

I was at my friends’ house and we were flipping through the channels. Your episode just happened to be on, and I geeked out and said, “OOH! STOP! This is the episode with Wil Wheaton!”
We all got a great chuckle out of the line, “Hit robots, make fall down?”
    Seriously, that line was fantastic.
    Great job, Wil

Enjoyed the episode immensely. Your bits with the Blue Beetle were well done, and early on I had trouble finding you in the character – which, IMHO, is the highest compliment you can give a voice actor. Even after watching it since it started, I STILL can’t find Mark Hamill in his Joker.
I really enjoyed the subtle irony of having Will Friedle as the younger Blue Beetle, too. The parallel sorta makes you the Beetle’s version of Kevin Conroy 🙂
While I do miss the more serious DC Animated stuff, B&B is turning out to be more enjoyable than I’d expected. Kudos for the work!

Wonderful episode! I really loved the one-liners the Beetle traded with Batman. You definitely made the character believable, and I highly approve of the way he met his fate in this episode vs. the way he died in the comics. One question though… did you voice Ted’s uncle as well? The two of them sounded similar.

I was a fan of Ted Kord’s Blue Beetle from the JLA/JLI of the 80’s/early 90’s, so I was very excited when you announced you would be playing him. It sounded like a really good match for you. After your announcement I went and read up about Ted and was disappointed to hear about his death. All that aside, I thought the episode was really good (especially your part). I had not realized they were doing an animated Brave and the Bold and I am impressed. I hope they will do some more flashback Ted Kord episodes, though I’m guessing it is unlikely.
