50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

in which my already nerdy office gets a little bit nerdier

  • WWdN in Exile

So … I’m not even going to try to introduce this, because I can’t do it justice with my words:

Velvet Wesley Paint By Numbers #2

Yes, Angie K., who makes awesome things, figured out a way to make a freaking paint by numbers painting of the infamous Velvet Wesley Crusher painting being held by me, and then she painted it.

Angie K. is awesome (as is Mister Angie K., who is better known as Ted, but will always be Mister Angie K. to me, the way I’ll always be “Anne’s boyfriend” to our friend Burns!) I saw them at the Phoenix Comicon this weekend, and she gave me this most lovely gift that I was not worthy to receive. I’m not sure if the photo captures its majesty, but the frame matches the fame on the infamous Velvet Wesley Crusher painting almost exactly.

Thank you, Angie K., for nerding up my office that much more!

(Click photo to embiggen, and see the entire set at flickr.)

Okay, step one, you need to make a picture available that includes you reacting to the paint by numbers painting. It’s small, so to preserve the painting detail, probably hold it up next to your head for a close-up, maybe throw in a thumbs-up or the horns…
Then the game will be afoot: who will come up with the best distinct, equally geeky artistic format in which to render THAT triple portrait?! This can be continued indefinitely (generations of geeks to come will ponder the enigma of the Last Visible Wil)

I hate to be an art geek… but that looks far more like a “posterized” painting than paint by numbers… still totally awesome!

That is wonderful! You’ve got amazing fans Wil… and I don’t mean me! lol.
    Lucky lucky you!

I’ve often thought a good idea for a reality show (i.e. a show that would seem awesome to me, and likely tank in the real world) would be OfficeSwap. Pretty simple concept but the devil would be in the details. I bring this up because if someone had your office in the show, I’d hold the camera on his/her face for a long time while he looked at that picture, and maybe add Aguirre-type sound f/x…
    Man.
    Angie K, take a bow!

So, what needs to happen is that a year from the date that you took the picture of you holding the Velvet Wesley, you need to take a picture of you holding this.
Then, someone can do a portrait of this, and you will have your own Recursive Colbert portrait going.
EDIT: Dammit, people having the same thought while I was typing this out…stop..doing that.

    This is totally awesome!
If I had one tiny bit of creativity, besides programming, I’d love to do one of these!
Of course, I can program my back-side off, and couldn’t hit the floor with a can of paint if I tried! 😀

As I said in Vegas 2007 when I realized I had autograph ticket 0001 for you, and you said when I showed you what ticket number I had:
    “That is SO COOL!”

I’m glad you liked it. 🙂
    Cheers!

To make this even MORE recursive, Scalzi should have received this painting…
Not that Wil having it is a bad thing. It IS awesome, after all, and how many people can say they’ve got a painting of themselves holding a painting of themselves? That’s just full of win!

That’s a double helping of Mr. Wheaton in one picture, what more could we ask for? tJR

Wow! Nice picture! You have awesome fans. Well done, angie k!
Since I don’t have twitter, I thought I’d comment here that I haven’t been reading this blog (or the twitter) because of any “lingering notoriety” from the past, but because you are currently a geek god. 🙂 You’re the only person other than my brother who I’ve heard reference the land of winds and ghosts in conversation. Forbes wishes they were that cool.
    Rock on.

This is great but there’s a whole Dorian Gray potential going on here in that now there are TWO images who can age for Wil. I’m glad your relationships with wife and family and Brent and all seem so healthy…

“… In conclusion, on examining the above post by CrackMonkey74, after carefully working my way through the haze of spelling errors (documented in section 3), abuse of capitalization (section 4), and general crimes against grammar and syntax (sections 7-8), I have demonstrated that, beneath it all, the work betrays the author’s staggering ignorance of the history and the workings of our electoral system. While the author’s wildly swerving train of thought did at one point flirt with coherence, this brief encounter was more likely a chance event (see statistical analysis in table 5) than a result of even rudimentary lucidity. / -Summer Glau / P.S. Don’t forget to check out the next season of the Sarah Connor Chronicles this fall on Fox!”

Oh, c’mon. I don’t think I’ve referred to you as “Anne’s boyfriend” in at least…okay, maybe I have. Most of the time it’s just “my friend Wil,” though.

Well I came in to suggest the ‘infinite art recursion project’ … but I see that has already been covered (twice).
So I will just add to it by suggesting that the next medium be: Lite-Brite!!
