video preview clip from fall of the blue beetle

  • Television

As promised yesterday, here’s a preview clip from Fall of the Blue Beetle, which airs this Friday, January 23 at 8pm on Cartoon Network.

Rather than use up all my bandwidth hosting it myself, I’m using this embedded player that Comicmix has kindly made available. Check it out:

Feel free to put it on your own blog, and see if you can be a subtle I am when you remind people that it airs this Friday, January 23, at 8pm on the Cartoon Network. Pro tip: be really careful with how frequently and obviously you tell people to tune-in, because it could get a little tiresome if you’re not.

For example, try something like this:

Knock Knock.

Who’s there?

Wil Wheaton plays Ted Kord, the Silver-Age Blue Beetle on Batman The Brave and the Bold this Friday, January 23, at 8pm on Cartoon Network!

Yeah, that’ll do.

Awesome, I like the slight kickback to classic Bat. I really enjoyed it, can’t wait to see it!

Hey, that’s awesome – I’ve been watching the series since it debuted a little while back, and it’s gotten better and better each week, this week looks like no exception!

Hey, they should call it Fail of the Red Shirt Beetle, because it’s Wesley, and he wore a red shirt and red shirt is Fail! And…
    ::blink::
    ::drools-on-self::
    Beetles! Ha!
Seriously, looks like fun, Wil. Must remember to TIVO the old-fashioned Series-1-no-cool-Intertubes-interface-have-to-do-at-home-way. (“Back when I was a kid we had to be in front of our TIVO to record shows! Kids these days!”)
Whoa, the Yahoo login thing is whacked.
    Sincerely,
    –Dan Gross the Fail!

Oh man. Tell me that superhero banter wasn’t just a fever-induced dream. Because if that’s what’s really there, then Wil has attached himself to a new Batman for the Ages. Yes, all of the Ages.

Wil – I’m already imagining you, dressed as Blue Beetle, rescuing Obama from the clutches of some evil supervillain.
Obama: That’s a super conducting magnet, isn’t it?
Wil: Yeah! It’s an SCM model squeeee!
    That’d be cool 🙂

Ha I love the banter. I hope every episode is like that. Thanks for the sneak peak. Will it be available online? I don’t have cable.

My son’s reaction to the clip: “Wow, cool!”
You just scored major points in the 6-10 year old superhero watching demographic 🙂

That looks great 🙂 I’ve been catching a few of the episodes on repeat during the week, this new Batman is pretty cool 🙂 It’s great to see Batman out-geeked by the Blue Beetle!
Batman has long been one of my favourites, one of the very few really good non-super supers.
Still, If I had any choice of superpowers, I’d still keep returning to Wolverine’s healing ability. Even if it didn’t come with the adamantium skeleton and claws.

  15. Blake says:

Diedrich Bader as Batman? Wow, that is not what I expected. I think it’ll take me a little while to not imagine Batman knocking on Blue Beetle’s wall yelling “turn on channel 9! its the breast exam!”

Hehehe, no wonder the guy said “Wesley Crusher plays Blue Beatle.” That clip had a lot of technobabble. I can see why the guy would mistakenly say Wesley. 😉

That was cool, Wil! I look forward to watching it on Friday night.

i watched for the first time last week and was impressed.
great stories, design, animation and music.
    very entertaining!
    i’ll be watching on Friday.
    great work, Wil

Wow, just wow. Thank you so much for putting up this link. This is worth all those years of defending Ted against those angry, hateful supporters of you-know-who. Ted may not make it through this episode (I don’t know), but…this little bit of animation is something I’ve wanted to see for decades. Amazing.

I think I actually saw this for download already on the Playstation network… if you have a playstation 3, check out video/tv and look for brave and the bold…it will probably cost 1.99 to download (sorry, not at home right now to double check) but you can get a pre beetle battle vis PSN

I should say “Playstation Store on PSN” 😛

  25. James Winter says:

Hmm… Now that I’ve thought about it. New BG? Batman? New BG? Batman?
Wil, you and Ron Moore would be out of luck if THE WIRE were still in first run that night. Since it’s not…
    Oh, sweeeeet DVR!

I will never look at Batman the same again now that Blue Beetle/you had a total geek talk with him. Which, BTW, was totally awesome!

This clip and all the superhero dork banter within are made of SO much WIN. =D

I didn’t particularly like the idea of the new Batman series – I thought the Bruce Timm ones were as good as it could get. However, if this clip is anything to go by, I’m going to have to check it out (if and when it ever finds its way to the U.K.).
I particularly liked Blue Beetle – I’d forgotten I should be listening out for Wil Wheaton, and was just enjoying watching 🙂

    Cute double entendre.
    Gross, but cute.

  35. Mark J. Reed says:
    20 January, 2009 at 4:57 pm

Pretty much guaranteed not to make it. Jaime Reyes has already appeared in the series as the current Blue Beetle – note that the clip begins with the subtitle “Two Years Ago”.
