a little more from phoenix comicon

  • WWdN in Exile

I just came across two more cool things from the Phoenix Comicon that I thought were worth sharing.

First, here's a little clip of Me, Yuri, and Aaron on our Look At Us Because We're Geeks panel:

And here I am making a tough guy pose with Daniel from Steamcrow and Monster Commute:

I really need to write a post about doing a panel with Marina and Brent, because it was extremely awesome, but the words keep coming out all weird.

I’m so sad I missed that panel. And, dude, I totally have the shirt Yuri’s wearing.

I would love for you to write that post, I don’t care if the words come out weird. ‘Weird’ is just a side-effect of emotion, really. Sometimes it’s better weird.

Agreed. Yes you really do need to do that. 🙂

I’ve been wondering if you were gonna let us know how that panel went. BTW, sorry that the Twitterverse isn’t treating you well ATM. I hope my Pikachu joke wasn’t in bad taste. If it was, I truly, most humbly, apologize.

Hahaha your joke was fine and taken in the spirt it was delivered.
I’m talking about people who are trying very hard to let me know how unimpressed they are with me, how lame everything I do is, and stupid stuff like that. It’s just annoying, is all.

Wow, I pretty much figured life had moved on past that whole bit by now.
I can understand snark. I embody snark. I live and breathe snark. I eat snark for breakfast. But, why on earth would people say some of that stuff? Geez.
I see it all the time on message boards everywhere. Just reading stuff like that makes me angry. I really wonder why I even bother continuing to read some of the things I do. I truly hope this isn’t a sign of where we are headed as a people. Because at this point, I’m just about done with life here on earth (in a non-foil-hat-wearing, turning-tv-to-static, looking-for-messages-in-my-cereal, kind of way.)

I saw that panel, and it was awesome. I also totally have the shirt that Wil is wearing – AND I was wearing it that day! GMTA – or something. See proof on my blog at http://vagabond.blogsome.com/2009/01/23/picture-worth-1000-words/

I had a friend at that Brent-Wil-Marina panel, and she says it was Awesome. Yes, with a capital A. Somehow I don’t doubt it.

I just think Aaron Douglas is SO. CUTE. The shaved head look last season was a little disturbing, but otherwise CUTE!

Eh, if they were that unimpressed, they wouldn’t be reading. 😛

So of course, I totally had to pause this and put “slave leia” into flickr …geek porn, much? Who knew there were that many geek girls with the body to wear that? The Aussie Sci Fi scene is clearly somewhat behind in the hot geek area … so long, of course, as you count out the Buffy cons of the late ’90’s … but they were less Sci Fi geeks and more James Marsters groupies …
    Ramble.

Now I’m rather sorry that I wasn’t able to come. I live in Flagstaff (Northern Arizona) and I could afford the traveling. You should be there next year. There is always the possibility that a poor lazy college student might have money.

I feel old. I actually had to Google to remind me what cosplay is. 🙁

My friend and I went to a Comic Con last fall and we saw a girl/woman dressed up as Poison Ivy that was nearly perfect. You could tell she had put tons of work into her costume and her body, which my friend greatly appreciated both (I’m married, so I only noticed the costume…wink). The funny thing is that the year before my friend was trying to sell his invention “Comic Vault Mailers” at another comic con and the same chick was dressed as Aphrodite IX and again she was totally hot and my friend got his picture taken with her. It’s amazing how much work some fans put into outfits so they can look cool at shows and cons. I have never felt less judged than at the many cons I have gone to. I hope that kind of mentality never changes when I go to cons well into my 80’s. Won’t that be funny, a 87 year old geek standing in line to get Wil’s autograph on his twenty seventh book? Look for me! I’ll be the old guy with the 7th Gen, still functioning iPod, commenting on how MP3’s sound better than MP8’s or some other digital medium.

I immediately did the flickr search for the “slave leia” tag also. Some good pics there, just be sure to use “advanced search” and check the “SafeSearch off” button. 🙂
Just to be clear, there’s nothing pornographic there that I saw, just lots of con pics and other geekworthy fare.

RE: Slave Leias – the belly dancing one is a pro with some solid skills. She also dresses as an Orion for some cons. Skip Flickr and go to Youtube.

Absolutely loved the video. Also enjoyed how they have you arranged in ascending order of beard growth :o)

Hey, that’s right! Of course, the two bearded guys could have flanked the clean shaven guy for visual balance…

I didn’t mean porn literally … but ‘geek’ porn … like Vin Diesel holding a baby while playing D & D and listening to Rammstein is geek girl porn … (or perhaps just Leela porn)
Mind you, my husband had to leave the room for a while after looking at the photo of the slave Leia pillow fight …
