50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

binary bubbles!

  • Books

It's the cover of Sunken Treasure!

According to Flickr, about 2500 people have peeked at the cover of Sunken Treasure since I mentioned it on Twitter yesterday. I just love it, and before I release the book at noon Pacific today, I wanted to give everyone who reads my blog a chance to see it (and hopefully get as excited about it as I am) now.

The general consensus is that it's awesome, especially the little binary bubbles. I totally agree, and want to publicly thank and give credit to my pal Matt for designing it.

Edited to add: The release is going to be delayed just a little bit, but when you find out why, I think you'll agree that it was totally worth the wait.

Edited again to add: Yay! It's officially on sale now.

How pretty!! Congrats! I just have one question. I think you mentioned in an old post that you did “Sunken Treasure” on an annual basis. I this book a collection of all the “Sunken Treasure” volumes or just an expanded version of the most recent one? Of course I could be all wrong in this, in which case….sorry.
    thanks

Wow, that does indeed look very pretty Wil. Hmmm, if it is print on demand, will you still be carrying copies with you at Emerald city? I am about 90% sure I will be there, so I’d rather get it there. If not, I’ll just order from the internets.

I am excited as well and loved the cover when I saw it yesterday. I especially loved the binary bubbles as well. They go quite well with me reading it at home under my binary blanket :D.

Way to work in an age-old Fark cliche (memes to the kids these days) into the title. I participated in the original “hot cocoa sampler box” thread. I believe my entry was something along the lines of “I used to work at this office, but I quit because I hated my boss. I found out a few months later that for christmas bonuses, instead of cash he gave everyone hot cocoa sampler boxes. What a jerk.”

    Also, the site looks nice.

I do different limited-edition collections every year, and Sunken Treasure is the one I did last year. I’ve revised it a little bit, and expanded it a little bit to include my Criminal Minds production diary. If you go back a couple of entries, I think you’ll find all the information you’re looking for.

I hope there are lots of copies; I’m going to be in class then, and then we have a standing social engagement for supper. [rant about Pacific Times redacted because I suspect I do that too often.]
Will be buying when home tonight.

    Hey Wil!
Long time reader, first time commenter.
I cannot wait to read this book!

One of the super awesome reasons I’m experimenting with a POD service for this book, Craig, is the unlimited availability of individual books.
They print them when you order them, and ship them 3-5 days later, so I don’t have to order a bunch of stock, wait 5 weeks for it to show up at my house, and then process orders.
So, in other words, don’t worry! There are plenty of books for everyone who wants them.

  14. Craig Steffen says:
    11 February, 2009 at 10:15 am

Oh, right; this is the POD thing.
And since you’re going to be at Penguicon this year, I can have it signed in person. Cool!
    Can’t wait!

In any case, I hope they have lots of steam built up in their web site, because they’re going to feel the entire might of the WWDN market segment fucosed on them like the Eye of Sauron when you release the order page.
Sort of like a Slashdotting, but less so. Bwahahahaha!

Off topic, but I had to report that there was some awesome Wesley Crusher trivia today on Mark & Brian. 🙂

I am seriously considering logging on my laptop during american sign language class @ 4, just so I can order it when the page goes live. Why did you have to make it go live 4 pm Eastern??? WHYY???

  19. Wil says:
    11 February, 2009 at 11:28 am

    Actually … it’s 3pm Eastern. Sorry about that. 🙂
I chose noon my time because I’m so excited to get this out to the world, I just couldn’t wait any longer.

I am always effing up the hour exchange from west coast time to east coast time. Though, I am always dead-on with London time…
3 pm, eh? perrrrfecttt! That lands just 5 minutes before my sign languuage class starts!
And dude, trust me, we are all excited right along with you. This will be the only written work that is not the newspaper, a magazine, or a textbook that I’ve read since last August. I am going to sacrifice sleep, man. 😀

Sorry-silly mood today. Seriously, this is great and the covers looks awesome. Yay!

I am new to the POD book purchasing – what link would I follow to make a purchase?
Also, once I purchase, does that make me one of the ‘Wil Wheaton POD People’?

  24. Geek's Wife says:

    Mark and Brian
Just wanted to let you know that Wesley Crusher was a trivia question on Mark and Brian today.
I didn’t know the answer already but it was pretty easy to guess.
I am assuming someone already told you 😉

  28. BitTwist says:

Only problem I see with the POD service, is if you choose the cheapest delivery method. They wont track or even replace a book if its lost or damaged. You have to choose a delivery method ($11+) that is almost as expensive as the book to get that.

  29. abbie says:
    12 February, 2009 at 9:35 am

i just ordered it! i’m super-excited! i decided to go with the cheapest delivery method, but i’m going to miss being able to track my order (i agree with you on that issue, BitTwist). i’m incredibly anal when in comes to tracking orders, though…so maybe not being able to check the ups site over and over and over again all day is a good thing.
