After playing an epic game of “How about this Sunday? No, that doesn’t work, how about this Sunday?” that went on for months, Leo Laporte and I have finally gotten our schedules to match up, and I’m doing This Week In Tech in about six hours.
The stories we’ll be talking about are here, and Leo tells me that he may add some more before show time. If you want to add some of your own, you can add them to delicious.com with the tag for:twit.
The show starts at 3pm Pacific, and you can listen live if you like. If you miss it, it’s available as a podcast, and I’ll update this post with a link when it becomes available.
I tried the for:twit tag but may not be working. My submitted link and story is for:
http://www.givewaterla.org we’ve been trying to invite you as a special guest, even offering Rock Band π
Have a great show Wil!
The first time I became aware of your geek nature was when you guest hosted The Screensavers, so I’m happy to hear of a reprise of that classic moment. Hopefully, the TWiT audience already has high Wil-awareness level, but this will give those who have missed out the same opportunity I had all those years ago.
Great show Wil. Brings back the happy memories of The Screensavers. I was wondering, from your various tech interests where would robotics rank?
I love robotics, and wish I had the technical ability to actually build one of my own.
Great show, good to hear you holding your own against the opinionated co-hosts (who really do make the show what it is) Here’s hoping to hear you on TWiT again sometime (soon?)
Ok, I just turned 50 in January so this was like an extra present in between special dates…
I am not a geek, but I am married to one (for 24 years in March) and we watch/listen to TWiT all the time.
We also watched TSS and saw you co-hosting.
And yes, we are fans of all things Star Trek too.
I’d forgotten that you got to interview Michio Kaku (I have a chronic illness and memory is one thing it affects) but I’d bet it was because of that interview that I try and watch Mr. Kaku whenever he appears, just to try and be part of the things my husband enjoys. Mr. Kaku makes things easier for me to attempt to understand. When I get well, I hope to read the books of his that I got my husband.
I hope you are able to schedule more appearances with TWiT!
And I’m not on the same page with Leo regarding Levar Burton and you being on at the same time. I’d love to hear the tales of how computers have changed the ability to do things in the TV industry since you were both on ST:TNG; not in special effects but maybe somewheres else behind the scenes.
Or maybe what things haven’t changed that could, for which something has yet to be invented.
I mean, Star Trek was all about inspiring wasn’t it? How many shows have been done about things it inspired?
Really enjoyed hearing you in TWiT! Lots!
Best regards

Wil, if building your own robot is something you’d like to do I’d be delighted to help you. I run The Robotics Club of Yahoo! (www.trcy.org) There’s lots of great kits and ready to use parts and software out these and tons of it open source. You can sort of mix and match ideas to create your own vision of what your ultimate robot would be.
Or for fun do something utlra Geeky and take a RoboSapien toy and interface it a PC to obey your commands.

Here’s a good issue to bring up with Leo:

Enjoyed the show but thought you were overly bitchy about Bill Gates. Stunt aside it can not be ignored the amount of good that their foundation has done for numerous charities. All of you piled on without seeing to realise or mention that.
Otherwise good times. π
I still think it was a dick move, but you make a totally valid point: it doesn’t undo or invalidate the philanthropic work the foundation has done.
I was just going for the joke, and totally overlooked Gates’ incredible and important charity work, and I regret that.
Loved the show, Wil! LeVar was on for CES TV talk, and now you!
I’d love to see you as a regular, maybe even meet up with Bwana for some TWiT!
Hey Wil, just signed up to say it was great hearing you on TWIT this week. Grew up with TNG (though Im only 6 years younger than you) and also spotted you on Numb3rs last year (but must have missed the Criminal Minds episode).
Really hope you get back on TWIT soon.
Keep up the good work!
Rikki
Grats Wil. I hope you decide to do the show again sometime. It was a great episode. The only thing better would be if you and Steve Wozniak were on the show at the same time. You should pester Leo about that. π

Ok, I just listened to this…the Maryland general assembly probably blocked Facebook and MySpace because their employees were spending too much time on those particular sites and not being productive.
But not everyone in the Maryland state government is completely oblivious. Check out the comptroller:
