I feel bad Johnathan lost his balloon. 🙁
Honestly, I haven’t watched TFG in ages, so the over-the-top humour hasn’t become stale to me; the ‘main’ storyline was kinda meh, but I loved the MacFarlane silliness, and how the gang all stepped up to it!
My only real complaint is I’m currently suffering from pneumonia, and all the laughing was seriously risking my ability to breathe; I felt a couple of times I should stop watching, but I couldn’t bring myself to do so; glad I perservered. 🙂
Thanks, Whil – may get your cheeseburger and everything else you wanted! ^_^

WHil WHeaton! I just can’t stop saying it. WHil WHeaton! WHil WHeaton! WHil WHeaton!
Damn awesome. As soon as this episode hits hulu, I am memorizing Stewie’s bit on Picard. I was on my knees in front of the screen during that.

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. Part of me wonders how much of the cast interaction we saw was exaggerated. 😛 Really glad you got more than just one line Wil! Hope you got to see your cast mates at least once while you were recording your lines.

The parts with you guys from TNG were hilarious, and the God-as-Flash Gordon joke was worth a laugh, but the rest…
The rest was really pretty shitty.

The TNG stuff was just awesome. It brought back old memories of asking Patrick a question at a Trek con in Chicago.
My favorite parts were Patrick saying “[bleep] you Michael”, the Hwil Hwheaton bit, and Hwil just nailing the Spalding lines at the drive through (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080487/).

I liked pretty much the entire episode. The whole TNG cast and theme was funny and well done. Brian’s atheist theme was very obvious.
The only unknown and oddity was Rob Lowe and Adam West in twin beds at the very end of the universe zoom out scene.
Other than that, enjoyed and laughed a lot.
    Thanks Whil Whheaton.

Very funny stuff! But why was there not more awesome for this episode? Anything involving people not taking themselves seriously is great stuff and should be applied liberally to the universe.

Also, a highlight this week was listening to the d&d podcast, hearing:
    1- Wil, calling someone f**ker.
    2- “That’s my mother-f**king amulet.”
3- “This shit just got real.”
    4- “Ooh, cookies!”
    5- Grown men giggling.
    Thx for the treats.

I enjoyed all the STNG portions of the episode, but I was disappointed that it wasn’t more of a spotlight in the episode. I think way too much time was spent on Meg and her bible quest. Honestly, that could have been its own episode somewhere down the line. When you have the entire cast of STNG at your disposal for an episode, for heaven’s sake focus on them!
That said, I enjoyed the TNG portions :). One question – why “Whill?” I get “Whheaton,” but….
    hehe oh well.
    Good show TNG cast!

Considering how they had the whole cast together for the first time in years (not physically, but still), I was really disappointed with how little of the show dealt with the Stewie storyline. The jokes where awesome, but the majority of them where spoiled in the preview. I’m sure if I hadn’t watch the preview I’d have enjoyed it more than I did, but still, I feel like they wasted a really good opportunity here. *sigh* ah well. I guess I’m biased, being a bigger fan of Wil than the others these days. My cowbell is Wil Wheaton, and this episode, my friends, definitely needed more.

Don’t really watch Family Guy only watched it because of STNG cast. I may just start watching it Sundays. Laughed every minute. Wish it were a longer episode.

  24. Sihaya says:

I think it was even Hwoopie Goldberg.
Stewie’s accent is 100% pure evil overlord, a dialogue only found among the inhabitants of private islands with large volcanoes or orbital death rays. It’s a rare language group which cultural anthropologists are working to preserve.

You were completely hilarious, Wil. After the McDonald’s I expected you to bring your empty gruel bowl to Mister Stewart and say, “Please, sir, may I have some more?”

  27. Alan says:

I loved the A storyline. Possibly the funniest thing on TV ever. But I was kind of left with a meh due to the fact that the B storyline was a “Me(h)g episode.”
What? Too obvious, you say? I guess so.
Truth be told, I loved the whole episode. I actually have a bit of a crush on Meg and I would totally do her if she wasn’t actually a guy.
What? Too obvious, you say? I guess so.
The writers don’t really try to disguise the fact that she is actually a guy.

Okay, that was fun. Didn’t really much care for the Meg storyline–Kirk Cameron is pretty much a walking, talking strawman, so picking on him is like shooting Christian fish in a barrel. I did laugh at the family’s completely over-the-top cruelty towards her (“Meg, here’s your soup!”) and that bit where she threw the cross at Brian was hilarious.
The TNG parts? Pure gold. From the completely nonsensical questions at the con, to Patrick Stewart’s constant abuse of Hwil Hwheaton, to Denise Crosby’s death after only one line, I loved every second of it. I just wish it had been longer.

Congratulations to Mr. Whhil Whheaton on what I think is now a Family Guy record: The most times any person has been mentioned by name in any one episode, outside of the core cast!!!
Whhat an honor it must be!
This is the part where I echo pretty much everything everyone above has already said. You were all great, it was well worth the wait. +2 w00t’s around!
And as an Atheist, I kinda dug the Meg/Brian storyline, but more TNG would have been fun. At least it made the episode title make sense: prior to that, I was in the dark on the other plotline…

The drive thru scene was priceless. Especially when you got smacked and told “you’ll get nothing and like it!” The way stewie was towards everyone was priceless. We should get Brent some McNuggets. I was laughing the whole time. They way the did the thing with your name awesome.. That was my favorite episdoe of Family Guy ever.

Dude, loved everything about tonight’s episode (even the Meg storyline was somewhat tolerable), just so many great moments. I think the Caddyshack reference made me laugh more than anything else. I wonder how many people got that one? Anyway, Whell done Whil, whell done.

you miss the point. The Meg/Brian subplot isn’t about taking down organized religion, its about mocking extremism and pushing social boundaries as far as what is and what isn’t off limits when it comes to comedy. Meg was not converted into prayer and faith, but rather into witch hunts and book burning which are on the extreme fringe of what religion is. And that’s what Family Guy does, it exaggerates in the name of comedy, with everything.
Star Trek stuff: can’t say more than what has already been said. Pure, unadulterated awesome.

  41. dragonfey.livejournal.com says:
    29 March, 2009 at 11:50 pm

Was there more to the storyline that might have been edited out?
I love the TNG part, but would have loved to see where everyone got the goodies at the end.

  42. feitclub says:

I really enjoyed the Trek segments and a few of the other cutaway gags (God was incredible, as were the two celebrity guest-deities in the finale). Having said that, the Meg/Brian stuff was pretty weak. I’m no fan of the Righties but really? She finds God and heads straight for the book burnin’? That third book on the fire was funny, but even for a cartoon I like my characters to be a little more believable.
And considering this show once did an entire episode re-enacting the original Star Wars, I had hoped for more from the TNG cast. Hell, TOS fans got a whole episode of Futurama! I will have to be satisfied with you and Patrick reenacting Caddyshack.
By the way, didn’t you once say they got ALMOST everyone? Who was missing? Even Denise was there!

  43. Grace O'Mallet says:

  44. Kevin Hanson says:

I seem to differ from most in my choice of favorite moments in this episode:
    #1 – Peter sliding the remote to the audience to change the channel when the mail plot-line is revealed;
#2 – The complete, throw-away slaughtering of Denise Crosby by Stewie’s use of a ST III Klingon Disruptor.
I guess my sense of humor tends to me a bit more twisted and dark than most.

  45. John says:
    30 March, 2009 at 3:22 am

Wil, you mentioned in a previous post “I can’t divulge any specific story details, or give away any jokes, but there’s a gag with me that, if it makes it to the final cut of the episode, could quite possibly be the funniest thing I’ve ever done on television.”
Did it make the cut? Because I don’t think either of your spoken lines were *that* funny.

  46. Plainsong says:
    30 March, 2009 at 3:27 am

I thought the plot was brave. I’m sick and tired of being a closet athiest, so as to not offend some Christian’s fragile sensibility. Where I’m from, I’d get the same treatment as Brian did. So like him, I pretend. Nice that we can finally joke about it on TV.
I’d suggest that if your faith is so fragile that you’re offended by a cartoon, then perhaps TV isn’t for you.
But as for the TNG plot, awesome! Whil Wheaton FTW!

  50. mullingoverthemultiverse.blogspot.com says:

Ah, I loved it. The TNG parts, anyway. The main plot involving Brian and Meg could’ve been canned for all I care. =P
Only complaint is that I wish there were more scenes with the TNG cast, especially since that trailer you posted a while back had, unfortunately, most of the TNG scenes in it.
Still, hilarious for what it was. I can only pray you guys do this again in the future.
