The Wedding Crusher
Okay, so. I'm developing this Star Trek Lower Decks fan fiction I call The Wedding Crusher.
rest in peace, bob newhart
When I worked on Big Bang Theory, each episode involved a few days of rehearsal before we did camera blocking and the actual taping in front of the audience. Most […]

The Officially Unofficial Wesley Crusher Fan Club is open!
Star Trek is bigger than any single one of us, and it has the power to change the world.
Over on my Tumblr thingy, someone asked me if I have ever met any of the original Star Trek cast. This is my answer.
Lol, Larry for the win!
OMG this is one of the funniest things I’ve seen all day. Bless you for this! Has a cheezburger on us!
Oh my gosh I watched this episode and loved it! I had to tape it with my camera haha. I loved Stewie and Patrick’s little “Whil Wheaton” monologue. I was cracking up the whole time! Except I wish Wil had more lines… I wish they showed the TNG cast more than they showed Meg and her religious problems.. as im writing this im watchint Toy Soldiers, while Wil just said “you were born lookin like a douche bag Billy!” lol. Sorry I just had to add that in. (Oh yeah and he had his shirt off! lol jkjk.)
I’m beyond happy with Stewie saying Wil Wheaton over and over… (esp since the cool whip bit was one of my favorites from the past). And how excited were you at the choices at McDonalds?! 😀
I’m another person disappointed with Family Guy’s A-plot. They’ve done slightly better in the past when dealing with religion and this was just wrong and not very funny.
Are you really a vegetarian? If soo like literaly all of my fav people from the 80’s are vegetarians.
I just watched it on Hulu – holy crap that was awesome! But man 15 years – has it really been that long? Time flies! I so loved how Patrick Stewart was cussing and beating up on you – well I mean not like I want to see that happen but dang that was funny…I about keeled over with the Whhil Whheaton pronunciation – holy crap. Too too funny.
As for the atheist views on the show – frankly I applaud a show that is openly atheistic. I’m stuck living in the bible belt, and as an atheist in that arena I can safely say it’s not far from what some would call the extreme portrayal on the show. Try “coming out” to people around where I am – you are exiled and shunned. It’s the old “it’s ok to believe what you want as long as you believe what I do” schtick. Gets old. Shoot where I used to work, a woman went running to the HR department because a fellow employee was openly pagan – claiming she felt threatened by him because of his views – wtf? In this area, there is a bit of concentration of the crazies.
I want more Hwil Hweaton!!!
Things I learned from this episode:
* A new and hilarious was to pronounce Wil Wheaton.
* Michael has a bladder the size of a pea. A small pea.
* Patrick is an instigator and also very very cheap.
Awesome episode! Are you going to start a Whhil Whheaton counter on your blog that ticks every time someone comes up to you and calls you that?
Wil,
I loved the whole thing. But my favorite part had to have been right near the end, where you’re in the transporter and clutching a teddy bear, and the animators have got you drawn with such a look of absolute contentment. For some reason that’s the best little bit of it. (Although Patrick Stewart smacking you upside the head was kind of funny.)
I think you should have them sneak you into an episode of American Dad. Maybe Barry can kidnap you as the ultimate Star Trek collection item and Steve can be the one to rescue you (along with Deputy Inspector Bullock, who will somehow manage to smack you in the head).
I did. It’s already broken.
I just watched this with my husband. His response? “That was the sound of of a *Klingon* transporter.”
I am married to such a nerd. Love it.
Great episode, by the way. I cannot believe everyone came back together for it! Awesome.
OK, I finally watched it on Hulu… and I really only have one question for you Wil:
You beamed in wearing a red shirt… and SURVIVED. How??
—
Because I am just that awesome.
…er, or something.
Okay, so what’s up with Marina using the American/Greek accent instead of her actual speaking voice? I thought you guys were supposed to be playing parody versions of yourselves, not your TNG characters. 🙂
That *is* her actual voice and accent.
LOL. Good call. All you need now is a lolcat next to Hwil Hweaton.
See, this is what I get for commenting on the three-minute trailer for the episode instead of the actual show — I could have sworn she was using the ‘Troi’ accent in the few places in the trailer I heard her speaking, and so assumed she used it in the rest of the show.
(runs away, hides in shame)
http://hwilhweaton.typepad.com ???
Patrick so owned this. I loved his timing and how he kept smacking you Wil. “You’ll have nothing and you’ll like it!”
Hard to believe sometimes this guy was in I Claudius. Whatta good sport.
I thought the Meg subplot was designed to get people to protest and demand apologies as part of the ongoing gag about how everyone hates Meg. This is like large scale performance art at its finest. I would like to thank all of the people without a sense of humor for providing me with ongoing amusement long after the show has ended.
That was my thought as well.
While I am all for laughing at religion,
sadly with this, I just didn’t.
And WTF was with the Rob Lowe/ Adam West interlude?
LOL!
Yeah I liked that too.
Kind of reminiscent of his cakes of women peeing, on Saturday Night Live a few years back.
Yeah the Meg bit was kinda throw away….Although…the part where Stewie farts in the hose of the space suit (underwater diving aparatus?) was pretty funny!
“Patrick was funny, but seemed to hog the screen time”
harken back to the Michael Dorn line “It was a lot of fun, except when Patrick was hogging the limelight.”
Stewie farting int he hose was pretty damn funny.
Overall I enjoyed the episode but the Meg storyline really dragged it down. It was pretty weak and obvious. Having said that it did give me two of the biggest laughs of the episode – Peter offering the remote and the Jagermeister yelling “Head for dah choppah!” 🙂
Yeah I loved that bit too so I made a quick avatar to preserve the moment:
So portraying religious radicals as they exist in the real world– against gay marriage, against science, against free speech, religiously and philosophically intolerant– is somehow ‘offensive’ to you?
It seems to me like your ‘problem’ is that these religious radicals call themselves ‘Christian’, while you also call yourself a ‘Christian’ and dont hold the same values.
I fail to see how thats Seth MacFarlanes ‘problem’. If you are upset at how religious radicals act in the name of your god, you need to be speaking out against them, not the people rightly making fun of their horrific behavior.
And I really dont think you want to get into a discussion about portrayal of atheists vs Christians in television. We get Brian. And House. And Mal (well, we *had* Mal). Which one of those do you think is an accurate portrayal of a ‘normal average every-day atheist’?
Do you have some kind of Criminal Minds style diary for this, Mr Wheaton?
Funny! Love the play on your name and the interaction between all the characters! Must’ve been a lot of fun to do.
On a slightly related subject – just before I wrote this comment I bumped my knee rather badly on a kitchen handle.
I reacted to it, then laughed to myself, then came up with this:
You know you’re a huge fan of Family Guy when: Everytime you bump your knee, you spend five minutes saying “Hhhhh…aaah….hhhh…aaah…” to yourself.
All the best hwil!
Dude, saying that while wearing *that* sweater??
😉

Oh my gosh I missed it! Nooo! I had blogged about it and happily told everyone, even people who don’t share my geek-thusiasm about it. Grrr. Anyone know where I can find it online? [email protected].
It’s on Hulu, and if you’re not in the US, I understand that there are other ways to view it online.
Thanks. In my panic I asked that before I’d poked around the web. Is it totally weird that as soon as I saw your response I called my husband to tell him “Wil Wheaton responded to my comment!”? What’s probably funnier is that he was just as excited. Being WoW, D&D, EQ, and Magic’ers, we love reading your blog. Keep up the great writing!
I was hoping for more of the TNG subplot :S
I have no idea. I just watched it a second time and that part still left me saying “WTF Mate?”. The last scene with the cast was great though. I need a highlight reel with just the Next generation cast scenes… To iMovie!
Did you all do the recording of your parts together or separate? I thought Micheal Dorn was hillarious. I’m disappointed they didn’t give Brent Spiner more to say. He is a very funny man in real life.
hmm… that’s strange. This was supposed to be in reply to Cand1date’s comment about the Adam West Interlude at the end. Damn you spotty Internet connection, DAMN YOU!
I was wondering about Wil’s prowess with the Claw Game as well.
Funny episode that would have been better with more TNG cast and less of the other story line. I am still laughing about the visor, “Why?!?!? Why would someone make this for him?!?!?”
This episode was excellent in its handling of the type of irrational prejudice that atheists face, especially in more superstitious parts of the United States. Atheists have been shown to be the most openly discriminated-against minority in the country, and I’m glad Seth shined a bright light on this. My senses were overloaded by the equally awesome Star Trek plotline. I wish it could have been split into two episodes.
People love to accuse people like Seth MacFarlane of attacking a strawman version of Christianity. It’s easy to make this accusation when you consider that there are an estimated 32,000 sects of Christianity. Chances are, the one he’s poking fun at isn’t your own personal flavor of the One True Religion. The fact is that *millions* of people deny evolutionary theory, or believe that the Earth is only a few thousand years old, or that a magical entity created the universe and cares about our day-to-day lives. For every irrational trait a Christian claims “doesn’t apply to them”, I can easily find one that does.
Hey Wil!
Finally got to see this episode had to wait til Hulu.com got it. It was awesome to see you on there. LOL A very amusing show
yeah I dont entirely understand people that deny the scientific facts of evolution. Its hard for many christians to believe that God would allow such a thing to happen. I actually think that the time described in the bible is alot longer than most people realize.
Hey Wil – nice to see you on screen with the rest of the next generation gang. I was sorry that there wasn’t more, but what I saw was very funny. Here’s to more where that came from.
So it was a weird cross over night for me. I yelled to my husband as I was leaving my house “Tape Family Guy” (which I rarely watch). He said “Why?” and I said “‘Cause Wil says so!”. And where was I going? To a New Kids on the Block concert (laugh all you want). Then I come home and watch and get TNG and a New Kids reference all in one (glad someone above caught it as well).
I thought it was awesome… but also wanted more.
Commented below… but I actually missed the show and had to record it because I was at a NKOTB concert. I come home to watch the ep… at Brian’s growling my husband turns to me and says “You’ve got to be kidding” as I double over in laughter.
It was so good. I kept it in my DVR because I want to watch it again and again. It was hilarious. I absolutely loved Patrick Stewart knocking you around. Also, I laughed so hard during the HWil HWheaton scene. Way to go Seth MacFarlane!
