Episode sixseven of the D&D podcast is online, and it’s my favorite one, so far.
It starts with a scream. It continues with a battle standard being planted (augmented with another scream). And it ends with archers perforating Binwin… and Jim Darkmagic struggling to regain consciousness.
In this episode, Acquisitions Inc. learns the benefit of pushing undead things off ledges. And we, the audience, hear the sound of a dwarf standing up.
Does playing more D&D increase your skill with rolling dice? Does 19 work for you? Do you remember Rudy the Undead Hound? Let’s find out….
A lot of people have asked me where this adventure came from. It was designed by Chris Perkins, and I understand that it will eventually be released, probably in Dungeon.
Edited to add: You need to see the Witchalok. For the love of Rudy, you need to see the Witchalok.
Can’t wait to listen to this – I’m going to listen on the flight to St. Louis for True Realm.
I think the ‘On The Bit’ is my favorite Witchalok At-Will power. Nice thing about the Character Builder is that you can totally add all that as custom content. 🙂 I think a witchalok Witchalok might make an appearance in one of my upcoming games.
Muhahahaha!
If I didn’t mention it before, someone at my table took a picture of the Gelatinous Cube encounter and finally posted it on my site. http://3clipsesworld.blogspot.com/
If only it were Dragon 1337 instead of Dragon 373, it’d be even _more_ awesome.
How such a thing is possible, I don’t think we’ll ever know.
Beaut.
That is the most wonderful D&D joke of all time. I can’t even pick a funny part to quote because I love it all.
These podcasts make me so very, very happy. Also, WITCHALOK! Also also, I think I need to subscribe to Dungeon now if Chris’ adventure is going in it. I really enjoy it!
Cheers!
How many to go? I’m waiting to collect the whole series before I start to listen..
The internets are very upset with you Wil Wheaton. But seeing as how Rudy’s got your back, we’ll let it go this time.
I’m still trying to find proof that Rudy the Undead Hound exists. I do believe the timing of this podcast (April 1) has pwned me.
You KNOW that though Rudy didn’t exist yesterday, he’s going to have his own popular line of T-Shirts by tomorrow (that’s a hint, Wil).
I’m going to have “A Message To You Rudy” in my head all day now.

You, sir, deserve a cookie.
Also, could you please clean up the mess I made by my desk?
It’s Ep7 not Ep6.
Whoops. Turns out that I have a rare disease that makes me see the number 7 as the number 6. I’ve corrected it.
One more, next Wed. Then you will have all 8. 🙂
Dangit, me too. And I’m at work with only a small slice of my albums here. Thankfully there’s the internet at hand:
I tried to watch the Joe Strummer version, but too sad.
That was pretty freakin’ funny. You had ’em going. I’m seeing why people say Chris Perkins is such a great DM, Fang and Rudy indeed. I have most of the Dungeon Mags with his adventures in them, they’re still my favorites.
Why is everyone saving against you though? Seemed like every round someone was saving against Wil. Better than firing at you I suppose.
Someday, I hope you print the lyrics for “Rudy the Undead Hound.” That was some of the funniest stuff I’ve heard yet in that podcast.
That, and the whole Jim Darkmagic hero-worship stuff (he’s seven feet tall!)
Yeah, this episode has more hilarity packed into it than all the other episodes, combined.
This was probably the greatest podcast I’ve ever listened to in my entire life. Kudos to you.
Also, more kudos for being directly (or indirectly, your call) responsible for returning my interest in D&D after an absence of 17 years.
I love how it was really funny one minute, and then everyone started going down and it got real quiet. 😀
I might just have to put my campaign on hold and run a party of Wichaloks through the Fool’s Grove delve http://tinyurl.com/foolsgrove Just imagine the smackdown such a conglomeration of badassitude could dole out upon the unsuspecting population of Enveloper Snugglers and Carbuncle Fatalists.
The podcast, as always, was awesome and left me perched on the edge of my chair, cursing at the screen when it cut off at a pivotal moment. I must know what happens!
Awesome podcast guys – hi-larious. Can you work your Wheaton Witchalok magic to smuggle a webcam to video the sessions though? I feel like I’m a filthy English street urchin with my nose pressed against the window of the Victorian sweetshop. And it’s SNOWING.
I don’t even play D&D and I’m addicted.
Here’s another great geeky April Fool’s joke: World of Warcraft’s new Dance Battle System! So you think you can /dance? Become the “server” and not the “servee”
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/dance/index.xml (the Trailer link at the bottom of the page has a horrifying animated movie)
Another great episode – makes the morning commute worthwhile. I’ll be gutted when these finish.
You all sound like you’re having fun, why not set up another session 😉
Mark.
So, (because you LOOK like tech support ;P) would you have any idea what happened to the podcast? When I try and subscribe it says it’s not currently available in the US iTunes Music Store. 🙁
If you are having trouble subscribing to the podcast, here is an alternative. http://media.gleemax.com/podcasts/DnD_PAPVP2_ep1.mp3
That address will let you download episode one, just change the number after ep in the address to get each episode in turn. I.E.: DnD_PAPVP2_ep2.mp3 will get you episode 2, etc.
I got the Braveheart reference right away on that. I was surprised you didn’t mention that he could shoot fireballs out his rear end. Which would have been redonkulous because Jim actually has the ability to do just that.
“I’m awesome”. Classic
Once again I was reduced to bottling up my frustration at not being a being able to see the board. One thing I can’t say enough tho is you need to, need to, NEED TO base the squishes and flank them if possible. Priority #1. Letting them stand back and snipe you is not a good game strat.
You busting out that Rudy the Undead Hound stuff on the fly like that had to be the best part of that podcast, Wil. Even better than Jim and his “I have to tell you one thing before I die…” 🙂
GREAT episode! These podcasts make my day. I don’t know what I’ll do when this adventure ends. I hope there is more to come in the future. Oh, and I’d so buy a Rudy shirt!
It’s great to hear about Rudy the Undead Hound again! I thought I was the only person who remembered that series. Though it’s sad to hear that Rudy, like so many young stars of the 80’s, spent his twilight years working as a security guard…
Hey Wil,
I was hoping to subscribe via iTunes. But Wizard’s iTunes link says I can’t do this from the US? Aroo? ;_; Is there no hope for me?
Rudy will do it so long as the mess contains Brraaaaaainss…
Wil, your “Rudy the Undead Hound” song and explanation was genius. I was listening to the podcast on the bus and I couldn’t stop laughing. People were looking at me strangely. It was a good time.
I think Rudy could be a merchandising goldmine for you after this 😉 Also, I’ll put in my vote to see Aeofel’s character sheet.
Hope to see you at ECCC, but don’t know if I’ll make it down there. Have fun!
Funny stuff, especially turning undead by pushing them over the edge.
Wil, I am a long time listener to this podcast and love it! When you did the Rudy shtick, I laughed my ass off. I draw comics as a hobby and was going to draw Rudy for you, but I found one on Google images that is perfect already! Please show this to the rest of the players in the game.

When the line “It was between The Snorks and M.A.S.K., I almost wrecked my car laughing.
I couldn’t believe you had a couple of them thinking the show actually existed. I think the themesong sold him.
#8 is up…
http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4pod/20090408
Quality wind-up sir, the theme song and educational messages nailed it 😉
Ok, that Rudy the Undead Hound stuff was an amazing bit of improv, props on the quick thinking. I usually suffer from the 4 hours later suddenly thinking “Oh you know what would have been hilarious to say there…”
RIP Dave Arneson. :,(
A little bit late, but I’ve uncovered the secret history of Rudy the Undead Hound.

A tribute to your awesomeness sir. For surely it is almost as awesome as the awesomeness of Jim Darkmagic.
