I’m going to be in Seattle this weekend for the Emerald City Comicon. I had a blast at this show last year, and I’ve been looking forward to coming back ever since.
I’m coming up a day early to do some media stuff to help promote the con, so if you live in Seattle, you can hear me on KISW 99.9 in the 7am (ouch) hour on Friday morning, and Friday night, I’ll be on KIRO’s show Too Beautiful to Live at 8pm.
The con opens on Saturday at 10. I don’t have any panels on Saturday (though I’m considering an impromptu reading at my table in the vendor’s room sometime during the day) but I’ll be around until they kick us out. Sunday, the doors open at 10, and I have a panel at 2pm. I haven’t decided what I’m doing on that panel, but it will likely be a reading of something from the expanded Subterranean Press edition of The Happiest Days of Our Lives, followed by a Q&A.
I’ll have the usual collection of 8×10 pictures to sign, as well as the few remaining Monolith Press copies of Happiest Days, a few Dancing Barefoots, and a handful of Just a Geeks. I am also really excited that I have some copies of Sunken Treasure.
Admission to the con is $30 for both days, or you can come just Saturday for $20, or just Sunday for $15.
On the outside of the Convention Center in pike there is a cool off the wall veggie hotdog place called cyberdogs..If the owners is working she’s always a hoot.
FYI – there is a podcast of the KISW interview over here: http://tinyurl.com/cwugnx. Pretty cool. 🙂
It was lots of fun calling in from all the way over here in PA, and I certainly got more of an answer than I bargained for! Looking forward to seeing you (finally!) on the East Coast!
And in case you missed it: Creature from the Black Lagoon was Williams, under the Bally name, so either way, you were right. Pinball Geek Wrath averted!
Hey Wil,
Say hi to Aaron Douglas for me, and tell that toaster to stop beating up women!
Thanks for bringing the gorgeous weather with you!!
Welcome to Seattle! My husband and I will be at your panel on Sunday 🙂
If you haven’t been on your previous trips, I recommend stopping in Araya’s, vegetarian Thai food. Don’t know if you’ll be here on a day without the con, but they have a lunch buffet-do not pass up the spring rolls!
I’m sure they are nice people and I listened the the interview, they where actually pretty cool with you today and it was a good time. Just in general KISW gives me a head ache.
I missed most of your interview on TBTL, plan to catch it on the podcast once it’s up. What I did hear was cool, caught part of the D&D talk around 8:20 or so.
Quick question, where will you be at in the vendor area? I looked on the ECCC site and didn’t see it.
Wil my son Kamron got to meet you at the Seattle ComicCon. and talk about Ben 10, you truly made his day and he was in awe for hours. I just really wanted to say you are so very sweet. He will be talking about you for quite sometime, I want to thank you. I just wish they could of had someone there at the convention to help you out with the books and everything to make it easier for you but I was totally impressed with your one man show. You are awsome and again thanks.
Stopped by your table at the con on Saturday (along with 80 hojillion other people I’m sure). We were the ones who gave you one of our business cards “Just so we could say we did”. Thanks for being so kind to us fans!
I had planned to buy a book from you, but BOTH ATM’s ran out of money and my wife tells me before we left ‘we don’t need to stop for cash, we’ll get it there!’
I did however walk right past you (after you had lunch I think) on your way pack to your table and said to my wife, ‘hey that’s Wil Wheaton!’ to which she says ‘The kid from Stand by Me? He’s shorter then I expected’
good times.
.
Wil I was at the convention & paid for a photo with you I was the first person in line todo so I doubt you remember me :S I could send a pic for reference though if it would help if there was some email I could send it too or some such someplace?..
Anyways I had the picture taken but being it was at the end of the day I forgot to pick it up! Would you have contact information of the people who took the photo graphs I would gladly pay the shipping & what not to get a hold of it! I was half wy back to chilliwack bc When I shouted out oh ****! so loud I made my friend driving jump a bit :S
Also I was wondering you said you had prints at the con? did you run out?! I would have loved to get you’re sig on one with you in the red trek outfit! All I saw was a few single pictures from you’re various workings though & did not think they were for sale! I did get one of you’re startrek books while I was there though too!
If you can help me out with my forgotten picture some how with contact information or even passing my own information along too those that were taking the picture it would be most help full! I have tried contact through the ECCC help email but have not gotten any response back yet
Hi Wil, I just got back from the convention. Your panel was hilarious and well worth the time and money. You are seriously the coolest celebrity ever. I’m ordering your books on Amazon right now.
Unfortunately, they turned me away from your booth in the afternoon because of time issues. You may have noticed a guy in a red shirt wandering around in that area looking sad and forlorn. I’m ok with not getting your autograph and picture, but what I really wanted to talk to you about was:
Are you aware that there is a THIRD Voltron other than Lions and Vehicles? Instead of giant robot vehicles piloted by humans, these were two or three people-sized robots. I learned about it from the instruction manual that came with my Asian version of the Lion Voltron toy (coolest present my parents ever bought for me). IIRC, Vehicle Voltron was Voltron 1, the Lions were 3, and this version was 2.5. What happened to 2.0, I don’t know. I don’t know what the storyline was, but I think we can all agree that this sounds WAY lamer than Vehicle Voltron.
sorry my above post is a train wreck & spazy Just got back from a long day of work heh 😀
My wife and I went to the convention because:
1) She had never been to a convention before. I’ve only been to a couple of them (San Diego Comic-Con in 1986 and something at the Flag Pavilion at Seattle Center about six years ago), but I want to go every year — and even see a few out of town.
2) We both wanted to see you in person.
We made it for the panel of the three guys from BSG (who were all great in different ways) and your panel. We also saw the line for your post-panel autographs and decided maybe next time.
I have never been one of those people (and I’ve known many) who just hated your TNG character for few, if any, logical reasons. I just didn’t see how I could do that without it looking/feeling like self-loathing.
After all, for my last two Halloweens (1978 and 1979), my costumes were a computer (a cardboard box with a screen hand-drawn on it) and one of the Ultraman outfits with the screen-print smock and the gold face mask with the string on it — and I had to wear glasses underneath that.
To me, seeing you on the crew (and the bridge) of the Enterprise was like seeing me there — except, of course, for that incident on the “Justice” planet. That ball was obviously overthrown and I would’ve just let it go. 🙂
You’ll prolly never get this….
but im sorry i didn’t get the opp to see you in Seattle.
My birfday got in da way….
Was the nicest weekend all year.
hope you had fun.
i did.
Heres to 36 with 15 yr old!
AND you!
And Spring!!–In Seattle.
Enjoy your life,
-Bobina.
Wil I just wanted to say last night I made some frantic posting on 3 dif msg boards or so I knew of people going to the con & Just confirmed JUST now that someone managed to pick up my picture for me!
The internet is just freaking amazing I tell ya 🙂
*puts on +2 GeekCred Wizard’s Cap*
That Voltron 2 was actually known as Albegas aka 光速電神アルベガス, and the 3 robots were, unimaginatively, Alpha, Beta & Gamma, and they were black, red and blue. (Piloted by Daisaku Enjoji, Hotaru Mizuki and Tetsuya Jin)
Red had a female pilot, Blue had RocketHandRobotPunchâ„¢, and Black had a boomerang weapon.
[I don’t know about 2.5 though…. perhaps a money-grabbing ploy …akin to certain PnP games we know]
The storyline was they were each highschool students that BUILT their robots (world’s best-funded science fair ever, apparently). Then a professor looked over their designs, made a few tweaks, and suddenly we got this:
Extra credit: they also had three small shuttlecraft jets they flew (and landed inside the robots), which ALSO combined into a superjet.
Thank you for coming up & say hi to Seattle. I have not seen you speak live before & was blown away. Yes I tripped over my tongue later trying to eplain how excited I was by what you said. You were signing the autograph for my dad & I was blithering on about you being president.
Someone had (after your panel closed) said that you should run as the President of Geeks. And that’s what I was trying to spit out, but messed it making me sound like crash victim.
Point being, I thought you were great & I will buy all your books. I will buy your books for others in my life. To point, I will help out willingly to help out in putting the kids thru collge. And thanks again for your kind words on the whole Prop 8 issue.
The Seattle Weekly did a slideshow of pics from ECCC, including several of Wil signing autographs and talking to fans. (and by fans I mean my husband and me…) It’s a great show, a good example of why it’s so fun to be us(nerds/geeks/etc.) and not mundane!
Here’s the link: http://www.seattleweekly.com/slideshow/view/3745479/
I spent almost the entire con at my booth in artist’s alley (*cough*www.poseurink.com*cough*) and sort of, um, forgot to find out when your readings were. D’oh.
Jerry had promised to bring you by my booth so I could meet you in a “friend-of-a-friend” context and (ideally) not fangirling out at your table like last year, but he failed. Bastard.
Glad to hear you had a good con!
After a long con weekend you probably don’t really want to wade thru all these posts. But incase you do, check out the History channel’s Ancient Discoveries for an accessory to your gaming table: the pyrgos.
The Ancient Hobbiest David Shaw has a build it video. (link won’t work… I don’t know why those things hate me)Julius Ceasar “invented” it to keep people from cheating at dice games. I imagine someone inventinve could do a really cool one to blend in with a menacing DM screen.
Unconformed rumor that polyhedrons were found in a pyramid. Who knew?
Oh yes, this was me when I took the opportunity of a short line to get my copy of Sunken Treasure signed on Sunday. I was fan-girl witless! Poor Wil asked me who to sign the book to and for a moment I couldn’t remember my name. I *should* have had him sign it to superpuppy, but I think I stammered something about Kristina-with-a-K. Cuz that’s the me he signed it for. 🙂
Hey, man. I am the pale, tall guy who was wearing sunglasses. You signed my baseball.
When you signed my ball I requested it to be inscribed “Stand By Me?” You asked, “Are you going to sell it?” I was almost afraid to request the inscription because I knew that you were going to think “sales douche.”
Well, I want to restate that I will never sell the ball. I have followed your blog on my blog for a long time, and I have the utmost respect for you. Apparently the entire con had a similar respect (judging by the line). You are becoming the god of comic cons, I guess.
Anyway, thanks for not charging me for it. I was running short on bills.
Cool. Thanks! And no rush, really.
I did spend time looking online and at my confirmation email for the answer before posting here.
Anyway. Thanks!
Hey. Got a D&D query for you. Would you like to try out the Player Cards? Maybe say what you think of them in one of the various medias in which you write/perform? I was telling a friend from WotC about the game you are running for the boys, and we just got to wondering…
Another friend was kind enough to stand on line for a signed book at ECCC (got Dancing Barefoot and enjoyed immensely) and just for the record, I don’t ask for just anyone’s autograph… but an artist or an author, I do. Thank you.
One of these days I will make it up to Emerald City. Are you hitting up Comic Con this year?
It was great to bump into you on the con floor on Saturday. You are a real gentleman Wil! Also, your panel/reading was one of the finest I have ever seen. You have such a brilliant talent for public speaking. It was a truly wonderful event, and I was glad I had the opportunity to attend. I was pleased to hear your thoughts on D&D 4E. All the maths and grappling put me off of 3e and 3.5e too, and I’ve been looking for D&D to go back to, “This game is designed to be fun and help you to imagine”. Now it is time to find a local 4e group 🙂
I was going to pick up a copy of Sunken Treasure, but you sold out of it so quickly. Oh well, I’ll just have to get a copy from the site.
Thanks again,
Edward Kaye
Wil,
Greg from Puck Daddy on Yahoo. Hit me at [email protected] when you have a chance. Thanks, sir.
This site is so wonderful site. This site is so useful site.

There also is the Detroit Metro Comic Con this May, too late for this year, but would you consider it for next year? I would definitely go!
Just giving you a heads up, though I’m sure you already know. Dave Arneson, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, passed away a couple of days ago (the 7th, actually).
OMG, channel Frederator posted Kyle+Rosemary!!
http://raw.channelfrederator.com/video/kyle-rosemary
Congrats, that was an awesome job on the voice work. “Uh, I brought you a +5 sword of Fire…” Hawesome!!!
I’m glad I finally got to see it!!
Hi Wil,
I was introduced to you at ECCC for the first time (outside of my childhood crush on Wesley Crusher). I loved your panel so much I went out and bought two of your books on Amazon, read the past three months of your blog, and am working my way through the D&D podcasts. Way to go- you gain +1 fans!
Oh p.s. coincidentally I own that shirt you designed for shirt.woot. It was a gift and now that I’m an uber Wil Wheaton geek/fan I was giddy to learn this little factoid.
Hope to see you at PAX so I can get my books signed!

Wil … After being shut out of the BSG panel I was kind of frustrated on Sunday in Seattle. Then, I managed to get in and have a good seat at your reading. Great stuff. It was good to get a chance to meet you later too.
http://shotgunprose.blogspot.com/2009/04/getting-my-geek-on.html – is a mostly photos post on my blog.
http://www.paulsbasement.org/articles/RedDawn – is a reading I did on the subject of Red Dawn a few years ago …
Thanks a bunch … Jeff
Will you ever consider coming to the Chicago ComiCon?
