Hey look! It's me at the Emerald City Comicon, performing some stuff for the nice people.

If the embed isn't working, this link may get you where you want to go.

I thought it went well, especially considering that this was the first time any of these stories have been performed for an audience.

Hey, Wil, speaking of appearances/performing, are you going to be at the LA Festival of Books again?

  2. Wil says:
    13 April, 2009 at 10:57 am

Yeah, I’m on some kind of social media panel on Saturday at the festival.

It went -very- well. I was highly impressed by your reading, so much so that I now intend to purchase all your books (which I already own) as audiobooks. It added so much to the story for you to put your emotions and emphasis into it. And you have a great speaking voice, which doesn’t hurt.

Great speech! Wish I could have been there. Will you be speaking at/attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con?

One of these days, I’ll make it to a con that you have a panel on. Any plans to make it to GenCon in the next year or two?

Awesome! We couldn’t make it into the panel room so we missed this but ultimately not so! Thanks for sharing, Wil.

Oh man! Like the antici-pa-tion for Penguicon on short notice wasn’t already killing me!!! Do you know much I have to shift the gravitational constant of the universe to get only 4 hours away that weekend? Geez… I need a better plan or more finger to do the math on.

  8. Voyeurangel says:
    13 April, 2009 at 12:08 pm

Hmmm your panel is at 10:30am eh? I think that would be worth getting my ass out of bed that early on a Saturday. Some of the other panels that day look great as well!

  9. Wil says:
    13 April, 2009 at 12:11 pm

I’m on like eleventy billion panels, so you can probably show up and see me doing something at any random point during the weekend.

  10. Voyeurangel says:
    13 April, 2009 at 12:15 pm

Hmmm okie! I was only looking at the Saturday schedule and only saw you on the one. But there are several others I think I like. I might just go and hang out all day. Now to drag a friend with me so I am not walking around alone lol.

Toooo great! Even though I’ve read those stories all before on this blog, it’s always nice to hear them again, and even better to hear them directly from you!
When I get the money, and when it becomes available, I’ll definitely pitch in for a copy of this expanded Happiest Days of Our Lives.

Hey, you may have just brought YouTube to it’s proverbial knees (or actual knees), Mr. #28 (congrats! @wilw). I for one am shocked, SHOCKED, that your prompt for lines from the “sub-script” didn’t get a better response. Of course, if you’d given that speech in San Francisco (where I lost MY RH virginity) the locals would have been throwing their lingerie up on stage, afterwards. Seattle’s just a tad more restrained, I guess.. Thanks for the video! It was great to see after following your comments #ECCC on Twitter while you were there.

Awesome. I think you should release a DVD of your live performances. Watching them are really entertaining.
Speaking of appearances, do you have anything else lined up for the summer besides the LA Book Festival and, I assume, PAX?
So glad someone taped it. It’s like I got to go to the panel, especially since there’s a Q&A part two!
    Cheers!

It’s astonishing how many people around the world would happily listen to you for hours on end. You’re a very talented speaker, and your stories are sweet, touching and funny.
So, keep up the good work I guess, and keep being the most likeable man on the interwebs.

So weird: I was watching the “part 2, Q&A” video on Youtube and one of the related links is “Kirk Cameron + Bananas”.
If you’ve never seen that video it’s worth a peek…it’s basically some crazy creationist dude who has co-opted Kirk Cameron to use as a springboard to get his anti-evolution argument into the public eye.
There’s also a great debate video where they claim to be able to prove the existence of God without using the bible, and then proceed to reference the Bible constantly.

Long time reader, longer time fan, and first time commenter on your site.
I’ve enjoyed your writings in the past. I’ve been able to “hear” your voice when I’m reading your stuff, but this (obviously) was 1000 times better.
Keep up the good work, dude.

That made me laugh out loud so many times, I really wanted to come see you but it was like the first really warm and gorgeous weekend in eons, so you know…. But seriously, you killed and I am so grateful to get to see it and forward it around the world a few times. I remember my dad telling me of a similar experience for himself. (I was then scared to go see it so I rented it and watched it with him.)

Awesome! I missed Sunday, but now at least I get to see your performance even though it’s not live. It was great to say hi on Saturday though. I hope your trip was fun, your Twitters about beating the toaster in video games were hilarious. 🙂

T’was great Wil. Love hearing you read your stuff aloud.
Don’t suppose you’ll be making your way to the east coast anytime soon? Like say maybe… Dragon*con?

I’m super stoked I got to be here to see this in person. I was captivated the entire time. In spite of the fact that I’ve read these stories, more than once, even, they were even better when told by you, with your expressive way.
It was awesome, and I loved every minute of it! (heck, I loved it enough that even though I did not bother to try to get to the BSG panel an hour before it started, I sat through a whole panel that did not interest me in the slightest in order to snag a seat near the front for yours! and so worth it. My husband and I enjoyed the hell out o fit.)

Wil, do you know if there are any plans to have another Con in Sacramento, and if there are do you plan on coming back? My friends called me at like 8pm the day you were here and said “Guess where we went and who we met!” Was not too happy with them.

I loved this! Seriously, those are some priceless stories and I enjoyed reading them on your blog. However, seeing you perform them really does add something. Well done, sir.
I hope I get to meet you sometime. I’m not on the West coast that often but might have to make a special trip in the future. If you come to the mid-west for anything whatsoever, be sure to update here at the blog so I can catch you IRL.

    1. Love the slow-motion “didn’t mean to shut down the console” story. I’ve been there.
    2. Hope you’re going to get out to the East Coast at some point.

Just wanted to say thanks for uploading the clip. Although I think you’re a great actor in the things I’ve seen you in, and read some of your books, watching this clip seems like the first time I’ve seen ‘you’, if that makes sense.
And it definately means I’m gonna have to come and see you in person at a convention at some point.

Thanks for posting this, Wil. Though I’ve read the stories before, there is a major difference between reading it and hearing it performed by the person who wrote it.
I also love how you’re wearing your own shirt, as any geek with any cred at all will wear a shirt appropriate to the event they’re attending.
One more thing, I know you mention that Rock Band song being absolute torture, I wonder, have you played Through the Fire and Flames from Guitar Hero III on Expert, and if so, how did you fare?

Thank you for sharing that video. I went to youtube to watch the Q&A as well. You are a very kind man. I’ve read your blog and all your books, and have enjoyed your storytelling. I especially want to thank you for retracting your comment about the “retard.” From the parent of a mentally retarded young man, blessings to you and yours. Carolyn Campbell

Pastor Will! Listening to your stories, reading your blog, following your twitter feed, eerily reminds me of Sunday morning sermons in a refreshing wholesome Americana way. You bring classic community feeling to the social networking black hole of a decentralized nation. Much love and keep up the gospel of geek.

Hi Wil. I only know you from StarTrek and accidentally stumbled on to your site, because I saw a really cool picture of you on break.com (in their Break Gallery 287)… Well, just wanted to say that I thought you were really funny in the clip – like stand-up kinda funny! Good stuff! 😀 Have a nice day from an ooold fan from Denmark.
