A few months ago, a casting director needed to get a picture of me with my luxurious beard. Since I haven't had any headshots taken since I grew this magnificent beard, my son and I took my camera out onto the patio so he could take a quick picture that would be good enough for e-mailing on short notice.
While we were getting the shot set up, he was fooling around and took a picture of just my arms, folded across my chest. We laughed a bit, and I didn't think about it again until I'd uploaded the pictures into iPhoto, and they stacked up on top of each other the way you see here.
I didn't plan for it to end up this way, but I think it looks cool and weird, so I thought I'd share.
It does have a kind of “funhouse” look to it.
I have an old photo of the Eiffel Tower that’s stacked that way. It IS cool.
Wicked, the distortion looks completely on purpose. I say frame it and call it art.
And looking forward to seeing you again in Seattle! You chatted with us at length the Child’s Play after-party last year (board games for children, etc). Have a safe flight!
Yeah, it’s funny, but don’t lose your head over it.
*rimshot*
It’s like the opposite of those Burger King “tiny hands” commercials…
Cool!!
Giant Wil is giant.
Wil Wheaton? Huh. I thought you’d be taller.
Not only is that awesome, but I rewound and watched the last 30 seconds of The Guild Season 3 Episode 1 about 10 times so far today.
… make that 11.
You have sexy arms. You’re welcome! =)
Long Wil is long!
Cool! and weird!
Trippy… That would be neat to see some more of this kind.
It looks like one of those flip books where you can put different heads/bodies/feet with various animals. We could put your head on Larry King’s body with Paris Hilton’s feet.
Makes you look very tall.
The silhouette really reminds me of a type of Hellboy sketch I see a lot.

If you do a search on B&W Hellboy pictures you will see it.
That’s a cool accident. Though the shift in proportions is making my not-so-inner art director reach for a red Sharpie. 😉
I watched The Guild episode last night, and OMFG, you have no idea how much I totally want to be part of the Axis of Anarchy.
Heh. It’s the shift in proportions that makes it cool and weird, I think. If it lined up perfectly, it wouldn’t have caught my eye the way it did. The way it is, it’s a little disconcerting, which I like.
Your next role as a rhyming, roguish giant is secure!
It’s definitely cool and weird. It’s like a visual typo. 😉
Did you get stuck in Willy Wonka’s gum stretcher or something? They told you not to play around on the tour.
I dig sectional Wil.
It’s random cool occurrences like this that make me smile after a long, crazy day. Thanks for sharing, Wil!
After the magician’s trick went horribly, horribly wrong, Wil’s feet were never seen again.
As the membranes between the universes collapsed, everyone became taller, though visibly narrower on top.
i hope that’s what you’re emailing
I rewound it as well but it was because I had to confirm my initial “holy shit Wheaton is wearing a kilt!” reaction.
I loved you as Al in Home Improvement.
Lookin’ cool, Wil! They must’ve put a funhouse mirror in your camera lens.
New improved Wil Wheaton! Now with 50% more Rikeriness.
That’s it – you’re on my list, Wheaton.
Ha ha! Perfect.
Wil

Wheaton
My first thought was that it would be some cool fold out cover for the PAX chapbook, I totally missed the distortion in scale, maybe I shouldn’t slouch so much. Is your son pursuing a career in photo-journalism?? Nice clear shot.
Hee! That’s great! Like the person a few posts up said, it looks like one of those books where you can combine different heads with different bodies and feet. Now all you need is a picture with duck feet or something at the bottom.
Wil, unrelated, but the first episode of your new D&D podcast is up!
Holy crap are these comments funny.
Now you just need suspenders plus a smug expression, and you’ll fit right into my favorite Dilbert cartoon:

I really like it…very artsy. That is one thing I truly enjoy about art, that it can always be fresh and creative in various ways. I also like the beard look too! Wil, will we ever see you doing a tour in NJ or NY promoting your books? I’d totally like to buy an autographed one but amazon does not have them!
It makes you look T A L L E R !!
Yeah, I like how the photos stack. Although they give me the impression that you are shaped like an inverted cone. Still, very cool.
I think it’s cool how some of the neatest artwork happens out of sheer accident. This is definitely one of those. 🙂
Awesome! Some of the best things that happen to us in life are accidents.
Wil gets ported to the DS ! Awesome.
Hate to burst your bubble, Wil: that second photo is of my torso, not yours. I was fooling around with your camera, on your patio, while wearing your dirty laundry. I meant to erase all the photos I took, but obviously missed that one. Sorry. My bad.
Wow!!…Definately a happy accident if I’ve ever seen one. I’m thinking another velvet or paint by numbers painting from this would be very cool
Wil,
I am a long time admirer but first time writer. (your writing has impressed me for some time and following you on Twitter has been an awesome and hilarious experience, which I am glad that the spambots are finally getting better, Twitter wasn’t the same without you)
But to the matter at hand, I agree that the way those two shots line up make for a really cool impression on the viewer, and when I saw it I likened that experience to the artist David Hockney (http://www.hockneypictures.com/ ). I don’t know if you have heard of him but he does what many call cubist photography. The reason why I thought the experiences were kind of similar is that David photographs one scene from many different angles and then accumulates them into one final image that represents what he feels is the true experience of looking at a subject (such as when we look at someone and notice a slightly larger nose, while also having long legs, etc etc) Its kind of hard to describe but its definitely work checking out, I think you might enjoy his work.
Also, I am supremely jealous of those who get to go see you at PAX, I hope you rock the house.
Adorable!
My first thought upon seeing the pictures, before reading any of the text, was “When did Wil get his own DS game?”
I wish you had buttons that say “Groovy!” and “Dude!” so we had a way to register our appreciation or share in your woe without posting.
Groovy pics!
