50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

CSI: D&D

CSI: D&D

This is a little bit of gallows humor that I whipped up and sent to Scott Kurtz and my friends at Penny Arcade when we all knew that Aeofel was dead, but couldn't tell anyone else in the world.

It seems pretty stupid and clunky now, but at the time, it was as hilarious as it was cathartic to me.

(Oh, and just to clarify for anyone who doesn't know: This is an image that was meme'd a little while ago. It was originally from a webcomic called Bigger Cheeses [thanks to reader phuzz for the link] I didn't do the art; I just filled in the word balloons. Hey, it's like I'm a Marvel writer in the 70s!)

Is he about to put on sunglasses over his sunglasses? That’s awesome.

Actually made me laugh a great deal 🙂 It never ceases to amaze me how attached we get to an RPG character, I get it intellectually but it still seems odd. The above also puts the Al/Aeofel thing to rest…
By the by, the story I started writing inspired by your “Get Excited and Make Things!” post is coming along nicely and I’m almost ready to post part one on my blog. Thanks so much for giving me the kick to do something I’ve wanted to for years.

Dude, that guy is hardcore. He wears sunglasses over his sunglasses.

I particularly like the ala Robert-Stack-in-Airplane! double sunglasses bit.

Poor Horatio.. critical failure on a Spot roll.

Aw, poor Aeo…fell. I still couldn’t believe it when that happend…I hope you folks can find a way to have him come back, Aeofel was the collected yet hilarious keystone to AQI.

    cathartic…
I find it interesting how it is so easy to get so emotionally invested in a group-conscentually-imagined world. I’m not judging, because I’ve been there, but there are an infinite number of other imaginary worlds where Aeofel isn’t dead. You can even ‘visit’ those worlds if you want.
I’m only saying this because of your recent threads on being a Maker. Creating worlds and characters in RPG’s is another form of making. And I think it is probably not too different from what I beleive God is doing with respect to our own reality.
People sometimes ask why God allows such terrible suffering in our world. One could also ask why you chose to be sad due to your cooperation in choosing to let Aeofel be dead.

That, sir, is impressive. I’m sure it was very cathartic, as no one can resist The Screaming Who.

I am missing something and will have to discover what it is. On a different note Horatio is the creepiest guy on TV and I really wish he had died at the start of the season before last. I am sure the actor is the coolest guy in the world but the same can not be said for the man portrays.

You *can* make your own comics, Wil! Just trace photos, then take the outline into GIMP (a free version of Photoshop). You can use the paint feature to color your cartoons, just like this person did. It’s color-by-number (sort of) fun without having to be an “artist”! ^_^

That whole acid death scene for Aeo… That just sucked… you knew while listening that he was done for. Sorry Wil!
Did you see the Supernatural parody on CSI: Miami?

Only not really, because I’m not gaming. Only metaphorically, and due to laughter. Thanks! I needed that. Crummy Tuesday morning.

Classic. Absolutely classic. I could see this on The Soup.
My condolences for Aeofel. I enjoyed listening to the game immensely. Made me miss my old gaming groups. Lots of laughs and bs’ing around the table.

Had a character die this past weekend in my D&D 4E campaign. Was bummed, and I was just the DM.
Didn’t think of the CSI angle, though.
They’re pretty psychotic with their puns, aren’t they?

  27. twitter.com/jaron95 says:

I’d have gone with the classic, “Aeofel… and he couldn’t get up!”
I herd u liek memes so we put a meme in ur meme so u could laugh while you laugh.

  28. czeano says:

Oh dear. “Meme” has been verbed? As cromulent as that is, I think it’s time to stick a fork in the English language.

  29. Danyiel says:

Hahahaha! Love it! Does anyone else think of David Caruso as the William Shatner of the current era, or is it just me? You know what I’m talking about, guys…the cadence. It’s all about the cadence.

  30. Wil says:
    24 November, 2009 at 3:14 pm

He *wishes* he could be Shatner.

  31. Danyiel says:
    24 November, 2009 at 3:19 pm

Yeah, probably, but you do have to admit that the way he speaks kind of reminds you of the way Bill speaks.

Actually the entire comic was made in Adobe Flash, nothing to do with GIMP or Photoshop

  34. Wrathchild.wordpress.com says:
    24 November, 2009 at 7:37 pm

I don’t know, “David *fucking* Caruso” has a certain ring to it.

  35. Danyiel says:
    24 November, 2009 at 7:57 pm

Or better yet, Horatio *fucking* Caine! Oh yes, THIS. From now on, He shall be known as HFC rocking 7 pairs of Ray Bans at a time. Legen…wait for it…dary.

  36. karohemd says:
    24 November, 2009 at 7:57 pm

Random trivia from Germany: The tagline in ads for CSI:Miami is “Nur echt mit der Sonnenbrille” (rough meaning: “it’s only genuine if it has the shades”).

Chasing Amy is hardly obscure. Right? Or am I viewing the world through nerd goggles again.
*is still in shock over being the only one in her class at Uni to know who William Shatner is*
