Hello, World.
I am not dead, I have just been very busy with the travel and the secret projects and etc.
I have many stories to tell, and they will be told as soon as I have the time to properly tell them.
Until that time arrives … COMMERCE!
The new Humble Bundle has a bunch of really great books, and one of them is mine! My book The Happiest Days of Our Lives is available in ePub and MOBI formats for the very first time, as part of this bundle.
You can also get Steven Gould’s JUMPER, the Zombies vs. Unicorns anthology, Scott Westerfield’s Uglies, and even more.
The whole thing is pay-what-you-want, but if you pay at least $15, you will get the audio version of Cory Doctorow’s HOMELAND, read by me. I’ve done a lot of audiobooks in the last few years, and I can honestly say that this is one of my favourites. I’m intensely proud of the work we did on it, and I want everyone who enjoys my audiobook performances to hear it.
Okay, before I go help Anne with a thing, a picture of me being classy in a sequined bow tie:
NICE TIE!! =)
I was very pleased to meet Wil sporting that Tie at the Planet Comicon convention in Kansas City. It was a nice touch. I didn’t think I was going to get to meet you at for a while because your line was massive (I hate lines) dwarfing even the lines of Brent Spiner and Levar Burton. I mentioned that your line was so long because of your popularity and you looked almost offended, like maybe you thought I was being sarcastic. Of course your popularity isn’t soaring because of your role as Wesley Crusher (who was that again?) but your recurring role on the Big Bang Theory. Your so funny on that show, and I hope your role on it is far from over. Hopefully the industry will recognize the public’s newly rediscovered fascination with you it will lead to us getting to see you in other productions soon.
Wil, you should definitely “have fun, play spoils” sometime soon!
FWIW, Zombies vs. Unicorns is fantastic. The banter between the pro-zombie editor and the pro-unicorn editor between stories is great, and the scariest, creepiest, most disturbing story by far is a unicorn one.
Wait, you did an audiobook version of Homeland? WHY WASN’T I TOLD?? *buys instantly*
I bought the bundle the other day and just started reading The Happiest Days of Our Lives this morning! So far, so good. I love hearing the stories about your interactions with various fans/celebrities. π
I have looked around, is there a compendium list of what books you have performed? Between you and Stephen Fry performing Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy, I have become hooked on listening to books while traveling.
I need this list. I was addicted as shit to Ready Player One.
That is one classy bow tie! Love it!
Hey Wil, Thanks for coming out to Planet Comicon. Hope you had and good time. Did you get a chance to try some Chocolate ale?
Your narration of the Homeland audiobook is what pushed me over the edge to get that Humble Bundle. I’m really enjoying it – and laughed out loud at the cameo in chapter 3. π
Hey, nice pic from Planet Comicon!
Bow ties are cool
Grabbed a copy. Got the audio book as well.
Damn you, vile Wil.
I didn’t want to buy such a lot of books by mostly unknown authors (unknown to me), but since I’m just reading another book by the guy who showed us kids being a nerdy teenager is kinda cool… well, suffice to say I’ve got to read alot of (hopefully) interesting books. Thanks for the little push π
And thanks for all the great things you did over the past years for us nerds. You show that it’s not a shame to be into logic, technology, SciFi and Fantasy, that science and knowledge is a cool and fun thing, that you don’t need to be another kind of guy to be accepted and loved.
Thank you for that!
If you ever feel the wish to visit the area with the highest accumulation of breweries in the world, drop me a line. I live there and I’d be honored to invite you to some of the tasty wetness humans all over the world love π
Kind regards from cold and snowy Germany,
Wolfgang
I am so pleased you are not dead (To quote Sullah).
I love that you wore ties this weekend. Bringing classy back.
It’s fun to dress up every now and then, and since I’m 41, it’s probably time I started dressing like a grown-up when I’m appearing professionally.
There are a lot of folks dressed up at those conventions, but I don’t know if I’d say they looks “professional”. π I’ve been reading the earlier entries after listening to you perform Dancing Barefoot and Just a Geek. All I can say is thank you for being an inspiration.
Dressing like a grown-up is one thing. Acting like a grown-up is something else…
After seeing the rest of the TNG cast in person, it’s pretty clear they all taught you how to never grow up. In the best way possible.
Looking forward to the “thing” with Anne, if I’m guessing correctly! π
It ain’t Wil. He WAS killed and is now a Replicant (side note about Replicants/Blade Runner: it is completely overrated)
Loving the tie.
The addition of “The Happiest Days” convinced me to get the Humble bundle. So many great books. Goes well with “Just a Geek” that I got last humble ebook bundle.
Thanks for pointing this out! I’m not sure I would have read the Humble Bundle email.
I already have a hardcopy of “Happiest Days of Our Lives”, but I’ve wanted a digital copy for a while so the actual book can stay on the shelf to look nice for special occasions. And another one of your audio books is always great to have. Wow! I’m happy now!
Aww! Great that I stumbled across this post. I knew I was forgetting something. I had a note on my to do list: “buy humble ebook bundle”, but I haven’t done that yet.
I’ll take the train to a (“professional”) conference in a few hours, and i could really use something nice to read or listen to on the train π
All the best from France,
Celila
Let’s spend more money on books!! π
Once again, I can’t figure out how to send this to you privately, so I’ll do it here. Because I’m here to say something you probably never expected to hear from a Klingon: Thank you for saving my life.
I’ve known since at least last summer that I needed to go back on anti-depressants, but I kept resisting the idea for some goofy reason I can’t even fathom or articulate. But reading both your blog and The Bloggess, reading about your struggles and that it could and would get better, that depression lies and that it is a flaw in chemistry, not character… it has meant the world to me. I hit rock bottom two weeks ago (my Pug died, and that was IT, dude), ending up in the E.R. Wacky Ward after wandering out of my house one night and trying to head into traffic (my Vulcan husband stopped me in time, thank Bowie). Any time I’d start to have doubts about taking them, I’d think “Wil Wheaton and the Bloggess both say that depression lies and that meds changed their lives for the better, and you love and respect them. TAKE CONTROL!” I’ve been back on them for only a few days, it may be psychosomatic, but I feel better already.
Thank you, and may you and yours be blessed,
Storm the Klingon
Bought that Humble Bundle before I read your post, and bought it JUST BECAUSE of your book! Loved it!
Bow ties are cool. Fezzes are cool, too.
Please come to Australia!
