I spent much of today going through last night’s post comments, and making sure that people I’d inadvertently blocked on Twitter were unblocked.
But, uh, the thing is … after going through about 250 links, I’d only actually blocked three of them. Everyone else was “just in case” or something like that. I thought, gee, maybe I didn’t make the instructions for finding out if you’d been blocked clear enough.
But the other thing is, I ain’t even mad. Because I did that today, I saw a couple hundred real people’s faces, and got a tiny little glimpse into what all of those people have been doing with their lives. It made me feel connected in an unexpected way (it put the “social” in “social media”), and though it was time consuming, it turned out to be a nice way to take a break from doing actual work.
And it gave me an idea: Why don’t you introduce yourself to me and other WWdN readers?
Leave a comment in this post that tells us a little bit about yourself, if you feel comfortable sharing that sort of thing. Don’t post personal stuff that could be too revealing or hurt your privacy, but maybe share your first name, if you’re married, have kids, what sort of work you do, and maybe something that you like.
The idea is that, when you see the actual, real, human person behind a screen name or twitter handle or whatever, it’s a tangible reminder that we are all people on the other end of the connection. We’re people with families and jobs and hobbies and passions and hopes and fears and we all live on the same piece of rock, hurtling through space.
Of course, you don’t have to do this, and I can’t stress enough how important it is that you protect your personal information, but since I enjoyed the social experience of feeling connected to actual humans, maybe you will, too.
Or maybe you won’t. I’m not the boss of you.
Good evening all. My name is Sean and I’m a writer from New England (Vermont and Connecticut, a bit bi-state-ual I guess). I’ve had short stories published in small places, and sent off a letter to an agent about a novel earlier this month. I’m married to a lovely wife, Amelia, and we have 4 daughters. We play tabletop games, and they’re all big Doctor Who fans. When I was 12, I got my first job working for $5 an hour; I blew my first paycheck on the first season of ST:TNG on VHS. I’ve started blogs before but have always given up because of no one reading them, but I’m always on twitter (@Sea_Bunker). Anyway, I’m pretty sick at the moment (cough fever etc) so this comment is pretty disjointed.
Good evening Wil and readers of this blog! My name is Paul and I’m one of the many Canadians who enjoys your writing. I am a web guy (and have been since 1992) in my real life and have become a fitness guy in my spare time. When I am not doing that I game, gamble and check out the amazing music scene here in Edmonton. In addition, I am a voice over artist with some small corporate projects under my belt. One day I hope to complete another bucket list item if I ever get the chance to purchase you a beer. 🙂
Hello! I’m Jen, I just recently finished high school and I hope to teach Chemistry some day, but for now I’m an amateur cosplayer of Sparks McGee and anything that catches my interest.
Hi! I am Dave O. I am a life long Greek who raised another life long geek. I game, I help run roller derby for kids and help my 18 yr old daughter be the best she can be. Good to meet you all!
Howdy! My Name is Tony and I’m a 42 year old I.T. Nerd from Wisconsin. I’m the proud father of two amazing boys aged 14 and 11.
I’m an avid photographer and gamer (electronic and tabletop) and a HUGE Formula 1 nut. I also love to read, cook, and listen to loud music. Back in September, I was lucky enough to marry the most amazing woman I’ve ever met and we’re happily settling into a lifetime of wedded bliss!
Hi, everyone! I’m Andrew. I live in PDX and I’m 40. I’m a geek who is embracing the explosion of our culture. I’m glad to have geekish girlfriend and good friends to share our hobbies with. I currently work for a large semiconductor company in one of their cleanrooms, but I am going back to school for my masters so I can get a position that I’m more passionate about: coding! I have worked in a varied number of fields and places. I was in the US Army Field Artillery, I managed Steak n Shake, I sold plastic, I was credit investigator, I sold doors, windows, and millwork!
I’m Rob, a puzzle-magazine editor from Connecticut. I’ve been a Trekkie since Day One. Here’s my story:
On September 8, 1966, my dad and I sat in front of the big ol’ black-and-white console TV. If you’re old enough, you know the one: not only did you have to GET UP to change the channel, you had to use the pliers because the knob had long since disappeared.
I took one look at Gene Roddenberry’s vision of the future and never looked back. A future where intolerance and selfishness had been replaced by acceptance and cooperation appealed to a kid who was bullied daily and was part of a family that was peppered with racists.
1966: I lived in the suburbs. It would still be six years before I actually met a brown-skinned person… in person. But the respect that was shown to Uhura and Sulu and Dr. M’Benga by their crewmates helped a precocious little mutant (yours truly) see that it was my closed-minded relatives who were the ignorant ones. I was thus spared an indoctrination to a lifetime mindset of hate.
The concept of IDIC may have been a fictional construct at first, but it has become a philosophy by which I have tried to live, and has shown me more truth than any of the various religions I have studied and/or practiced. By keeping my heart and mind open to different cultures, I’ve had experiences with food, travel, friendship, and love that I would have otherwise missed, but will now cherish for all of my days.
So, to everyone who has EVER had anything to do with The Great Bird of the Galaxy and his legacy (this includes you, Mr. Wheaton)…
Qapla’! Peace and long life. Thank you. I love you.
And happy new year.
—Rob
Pretty cool Rob. IDIC in all forms is definitely interesting.
Cultures are very much alike.(Terran and maybe non Terran ) Each has families they care about, children they want a great future for, unique food, drink and laughter. That tends to make us even.
Hi! I’m Ward. My lovely wife and I just (and I mean just) passed our 18th wedding anniversary. We have two wonderful boys (12 and 8). I recently retired after 20+ years in the USAF, am going back to school and hopefully starting a career in photography.
Hi Wil! I’m Ailise (a-leash) … That’s Irish for Alice. My parents wanted me to have a bountiful imagination just like Alice in Wonderland. I’m Canadian, a teacher (special education), married and I have the best little girl in the whole world. She’s nearly two, super smart and has the best sense of humour! I’ve watched all the STNG shows and can’t wait to show the kiddo, but my husband hates anything Sci-Fi. Oh, and I firmly believe that there’s a Simpsons episode for every occasion and circumstance. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your awesomesauce family!
What a good idea! My name is Beth but on the internetz I usually post things as @Im_DrB. I’m a biochemistry instructor/science nerd from the South, currently working at a fairly large research university teaching and running some agricultural research projects. I blog about road trips, tweet things I hope my students enjoy, and try to keep in touch with things going on in the science realms around the world. I have one furry roommate, Frankie The Cat, who I firmly believe was a mobster in a previous life. I’m delighted to meet you all, and greatly enjoyed reading all your interesting posts!
My name is Andrea. I`m married, polyamoru (with two male partners),, and have three boys. Ages 8, 6, and 4. We are a gamer family, we play board games, card games, video games. We love watching your shows and enjoy your blog.
My name is Chris, and I am in my forties and live in Colorado. I am a video gamer and board gamer and have decent size collections of both. I am transgendered along with my partner. We are both nerdy and geeky and once gay marriage became legal in our state, we tied the knot.
Pleasure to meet you all!
Hi Everyone! John Merritt here. I live in Colorado, got 2 kids, awesome wife named Raena and I happen to be the creator of Tentacle Kitty!
If you don’t know about Tentacle kitty you can find her on Facebook, twitter @TentacleKitty or just at Tentaclekitty.com.
Most of the folks at g&s have a Tentaclekitty plush after I ran around the g&s lounge at sdcc passing them out like “a balloon man” according to Felicia.
Hello Wil!
Im Kat. I’m a geeky girl from upstate NY. It is my parents fault I’m a geek as they took me to see Star Wars when I was 6. It is one of my first memories of going to the movies and it introduced me to my love of space geekery (followed up appropriately with Close Encounters, the original Battlestar and Star Trek of course).
I am currently a preschool teacher which pays the bills. I am also a scenic artists with a small local theatre (KNOW Theatre) which is my love. I also play around with drawing and painting. I have two rescued kitties and desparately wish I had room for a couple pit bull rescues, but I have to put that in the someday pile. That’s pretty much it.
Thanks for your stories and all you do. I all the pet posts! Your dogs are adorable!
Cheers!
Kat
I also apologize for my grammar. Didn’t check myself!
Hi Wil and fans of Wil! Happy holidays to you all. My name is Sam and I am a recently-turned 40 year-old in Silver Spring, Maryland, just within spitting distance of our nation’s capital. I’ve been a sci-fi fan since I was a very young child with “Space 1999” and “Star Wars” toys and books all over the house. “Star Wars” was the first movie we owned on VHS as a family. I wore out the tape with hundreds of viewings over the years.
I doodle a lot. I used to get a lot of grief from the kids at school because I was always drawing Transformers, G.I.Joes, and Star Wars ships and characters. Being bullied was tough but it allowed me to justify isolation and my imagination ran wild. I was in the 7th grade when ST:TNG first aired and I remember watching it as often as I was allowed.
I am a hockey fan and have season tickets to the Washington Capitals. I also blow the horn you’ll hear on TV if you watch a Caps home game. I blast three loud times and the crowd yells “LET’S GO CAP” at top volume. So I’m famous to a few thousand people.
Wil, I want to thank you for being awesome and for being a fantastic role model for how a human being can be awesome. I love you in a totally non-creepy admiration kind of way.
Hi Wil,
I’m Rob. I’m an astromech builder and Mandalorian Merc who enjoys most things that live in the geekverse. I have a wife and three small humans living with me.
You have entertained me far longer than I care to admit and I thank you for that.
Oya brevard, you still alive? (Typical Mando greeting )
(Might be mispelled. Supposed to be Hello brother. )
Hello All, My name is Marie I am from Oregon. I am a paramedic and work in the emergency room with some amazing people. My best friend Ryan is a huge geek like myself he leans more toward SW where I am more toward ST. I am not married and don’t have any children. I do have two fabulous cats named Maverick & Gertie (I was going to do Maverick & Goose but Goose turned out to be female so it was Gertie from E.T.) I have an amazing group of friends that I actually met on Twitter then met in real life and it has been a wild ride ever since. I love that Social Media has brought me new relationships this last year, and that I am able to use it to keep up to date with those friends and family members that live further away.
Wishing the whole Wheaton clan a very Merry Christmas and Happy New year. Now lets go play some games!!!
Hi,
I’m Sherry German. I’m a tax attorney. I do all sorts of tax work but I enjoy getting people and business entities out of trouble with the IRS. The IRS has a lot of power and can really ruin lives. My primary leisure activities are reading, mostly sci-do, and dancing. I enjoy your often witty comments on twitter .
Hi! I’m Jennifer and I live in Cambridge, England. I grew up in Central California, though! I work in IT and occasionally write stuff. I recently decided to “be more serious” about writing, so I entered a short story contest. I hope I don’t suck at it as much as I fear I do! 🙂 I have other weird hobbies, too, like making soap, embroidering, and collecting rocks. 😀
Hi there, Wil and my fellow Wheatonites! My name is Becca and I live in south central Kentucky with my husband J.R., our cat Wheatley, and the fetus inside me Penny. I work as a library assistant with hopes of getting my masters degree and becoming a full-fledged librarian. I like various geeky/nerdy things such as the works of Joss Whedon, the various “Star” franchises (Trek/Wars/Gate), board games, science (especially biology, astronomy, and anthropology), video games, and podcasts. I’m also a bit of a maker and focus on the fiber arts (knitting, crocheting, weaving, sewing). I’m also a fellow depression/anxiety sufferer and have found solace in your posts on the topic; they make me feel less alone when I’m dealing with a low moment.
Hey Wil, it’s me, Ken from GeekDad, writing this while in line for Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland. The whole family (two teen boys who still love the park, and my lovely wife) are here for the week to extend our holidays. Everyone split up for a bit before we hit Blue Bayou for dinner. I’m still working as a Civil Engineer by day- blogging still isn’t a viable full time career, go figure. But planning a lot of amazing stuff this year. We are all excited for new Tabletop and the RPG show. Happy holidays to you and yours!
Hi, Wil. It’s Carol. We’ve met a few times over the years. I used to buy teeny-tiny text ads from you, back on the old version of your site.
I’m the VP and co-owner of Cheapass Games, helping out my lovely and clever husband, James Ernest. I’m also a very part-time business manager for Phil & Kaja Foglio’s “Girl Genius”. And I do crowd-funding consulting.
I’ve been in the game industry for over 20 years. I used to work at Wizards of the Coast, telling distributors how many Magic: The Gathering cards they couldn’t have.
What else? I have a renaissance singing group called Conspiratio (that’s latin for harmony, and conspiracy). I’m taking Meisner classes. I’m writing a novel. I have an adorable teenage daughter who likes to wear a yeti hat. I’m going on the JoCo Cruise this year. And I am never, ever, at a loss for conversation topics. 🙂
Best wishes for a happy New Year!
Hey Wil. I’m Jason. I’ve been reading the blog for about a year now. I work in the automotive industry. Im a big fan of comics, sci-fi, cartoons, and any kind of games. Not a whole lot of people at work get me. They think I’m weird for having toys on my desk and watching cartoons on my iPad at lunch. I have a wonderful wife of 19 years, an 18 year old son, and the best mother-in-law you could ask for. We go on vacation together so we can geek out. I hope to meet you one day talk geek stuff. Thanks for being awesome. I think you and your wife are big inspirations to people.
My name is C Z Hazard, writer from the UK, I work on toy profiles and have novels on Amazon Kindle.
Currently about to undertake a year long experiment in No New Media for 2015 – no new toys, comics, video games, TV, films or music for one whole year. Should be interesting. Follow the blog here, thanks!

My name is Stan and I’m 36. I have a beautiful girl and I am married to a wonderful woman that I met on a bbs back in 93. I was a nuclear operator on the USS Enterprise and now I work for the Navy in supporting nuclear work. I have always loved Star Trek. Wil’s Tabletop show has introduced my wife and I to the joy of tabletop games and we thank him for that!
Heya Whil! – Yeah, I pronounced the ‘H’! {please read}
I’m Shawna, residing in Calgary AB, aka Sir Kona’s (of Pawfleet) human. Lover of life and everything it gives us! Also fond of family, friends, boardgames, Strongbow, my 2 cats, hilarity, etc. We did meet briefly at the Calgary Comic con, however I certainly don’t expect you to remember – you had so many fans there. You are truly a very kind person, funny as all hell and somewhat prophetic.
I’m just your average girl, doing average things (K, maybe not, I wore a gremlin’s ugly Christmas sweater and my 4′ sock monkey gets Christmas cards (Winston is the mascot where I volunteer) – doubt that’s at all typical. Just striving to enjoy everyday, and succeeding at it!
I came up with a new saying a month before Comic Con last year – it was my birthday, and I bought a pass to have my pic taken with you, plus my bro gave me cash so I could get your autograph – all I could say at the time was “I am jealous of future me!!” It’s now pretty much my motto for whenever I’m looking forward to something that’s coming up.
Thanks for listening! Shawna
TL;DR – be jealous of future you!
Hi Will,
My name is Sarah and I’m a massage therapist living in coastal Florida. I grew up watching you in Stand By Me and Star Trek, so I’ve always been a big fan. I’ve always been drawn to the nerdier things and life and quite proud of it! I watched table top during the first season after discovering The Guild. You have no idea what an impact that show has made for both my son and I. I am a single mother to a wonderful son who is autistic. He enjoys watching the shows, but even more so, he has learned to game. He has become much more patient and still has a good time even when he looses. His first game was Catan Jr, so you can imagine his excitement when we watched that episode this season. You have given my son and I an incredible way to bond, there are no words to express just how much this means to me. Thank you.
Hi Mr Wheaton and anyone else who may read this,
My name is Steve and I live in Kent in England with my wife. I have two grown up step kids who no longer live at home. I unfortunately don’t work due to mental and physical health problems (manic depression, anxiety, panic attacks, arthritis in my hip and a dodgy back after a fall at work a couple of years ago…………….and that’s the short version! Ha ha) but I do manage to volunteer in a charity shop occasionally. I am a huge fan of Geek and Sundry (Miss Day and your good self really are the “King and Queen of Geekdom”) and Tabletop especially,I have always been a tabletop gamer so it’s really “my thang!”.
Please keep up the wonderful work on Tabletop,Big Bang Theory and all your other endeavours
Cheers,
Steve
Hello everyone! I’m Matt and I consider myself a certified music geek: still obsessed with buying CDs and vinyl, and recently received my PONO player (finally), so I’m also all about insanely high bit rates, sample rates, super-high quality audio and such. I’m also uncontrollably obsessed with random, useless music & pop culture trivia; if you have never played a Geeks Who Drink quiz before, definitely check it out (just be wary if you play against my team). My background is in video editing/post-production, but I just finished an Audio Production degree, so I’m cautiously optimistic that it will one day allow me to help create the music I enjoy listening to. I’ve been a fan of Wil and Star Trek since my mom introduced me to the TOS (and subsequently TNG) many years ago. I’ve also enjoyed all of Wil’s solo work as it has helped me discover the shared experience of being a nerd. Nice to meet you all!
Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m an expat from Arkansas living in Scotland. Married to a funny Brit and we have two kids with one more on the way. He introduced me to larping some years ago. We dream of dragons. Xx
I’m Ben. First time poster. Full time financial advisor, part time science hack. Came to the blog because I loved Mr. Weaton’s reading of “What If” by Randall Munroe, and thought I’d see what he’s been up to. The audio was so well done, and Wil does a wonderful job of conveying the humor of the text. Well done Wil!
Hi. I’m Mindy. I’m a mother, Buddhist (albeit crappy one), photographer and geologist. My father turned me on to all things sci-fi as a kid and we still have this common interest. I’ve been reading this blog for about a year and enjoy the honesty and humor. Thanks for sharing.
Hi! I’m Christine, a 42-year-old English teacher. I am married, have two kids, a dog, and a cat. I am a bit of a late- bloomer, not fully embracing my geekiness until in my 30s, but you can be sure I have begun teaching my kids to embrace their fandoms early! I have been a life long lover of science fiction and fantasy literature (except for that brief love affair with historical romance, shhhhh), TV and films. I really enjoy your viewpoint on the world, so thank you!
Hi, I’m Tina. I write fantasy and mystery novels under the name T.L. Merrybard. I live in Western Australia with my lovely husband, our two black Labradors, our kitty, and our four silly chickens. I try to write stuff that is fun, inspiring, and full of animals just like our real lives are. We’re back into boardgames thanks to you, Wil. I just got hubby the Ankh Morpork Boardgame for Christmas since we’re both big Terry Pratchett fans.

Hi, I’m Wendy. I just moved to Southern California a month ago for the best job I ever had at a digital marketing agency. I work as a web business analyst and currently enjoying all the awesome that is Orange County and Los Angeles. I have two dogs, Sindaen (rat terrier) and Zoey (Jack Russell terrier). I love all things geekery especially comic books. I love to bake and enjoy incorporating my love of all things nerdy into baking, such as Green Arrow cookies, Gears of War cupcakes, or “Brain Burgers”
I have been following you since your original “blog” site years ago. I have enjoyed all you and Anne’s shenanigans and awesomeness through the years. Thank you for keeping us entertained and promoting us nerds.
Hi! My name is Aiyana and I just graduated with a music education degree, which means I am currently on the search for the mythical thing people call a “job”. I’m really hoping to get a job at an elementary school! I would love when a kid would notice my Star Wars socks and then talk to me about how they love Star Wars.
I remember watching Star Trek TNG, Cheers, SNL, and Seinfeld with my parents when I was a small child, so that kind of sparked my love if Star Trek.
I met you at Chicago Comic Con two years ago and it us still the coolest thing that has happened to me. Even though I didn’t have money for an autograph I still got to meet you and you even acknowledged my ballin’ cosplay! (I like to make lady versions of some of my most beloved male characters, and this was my lady captain planet) It’s nice to see real kindness from someone that you watched on TV!
Happy New Year!
Hi, all. I’m Summer. I’ll be 38 in a few days, and I recently proposed to my girlfriend of 5 years via an elaborately planned event that is now on YouTube. I’ve been a Trekker since the 80s, and I love all things SciFi and Harry Potter. I’m a former roller derby girl who’s been collecting comics (Wonder Woman,Cloak and Dagger,Green Lantern, various indie ones) since the age of 5, and I’ve been gaming since Commodore 64! I love trivia and Tabletop gaming. One of my proudest feats is turning my lady into a tabletop-loving scifi nerd!
Not that your reading all these, but I’m
Wade. I’ve been following your blog for a few years it seams. ST-TNG was the best ST and never missed it! Now I’m an IT enterprise monitoring engineer. I love the Atari 8 bit computer and also host a podcast related to it (Inverse ATASCII). I enjoy seeing what you have to say, and enjoy Tabletop!
Hello Wil,
My name is John, and I live out in the middle of nowhere in flyover country. I’ve been a Trek fan since I was 4 (that would be 1984). Let’s see, something a little unique about me… Well, when I was a kid, my family and I were homeless. Sometimes we would live out of cars, other times we would have the benefit of a tent. In the dead of winter we were allowed to park in my aunt’s driveway, which is where we slept. My parents would cover me with anything warm they had.
So as I’ve grown older, I have become a staunch advocate for reform when it comes to the poor, and needy. I believe that there is no excuse for the state of the poor in a nation that is overwhelmingly wealthy in every other aspect. So much money, but so little compassion from those who claim to represent the people.
Social stances and politics aside, I love to read, write, and I enjoy research for the sake of research. I’m currently unemployed due to family member health issues, but I still have plans to become rich and famous; maybe if I could join the Muppets it would happen. I hear they have success when it comes to rich and famous contracts, though I’ve never been to New York.
Oh, and one last thing: I hope you don’t find this creepy, but when you were on TNG, I had such a crush on you. I never told anyone, but I feel comfortable enough with myself these days to say it.
I hope you had a Merry Christmas, Wil!
John
Hi uh, everyone. My name is Toni. I’ve been a nerd/geek, well since I was born. Honest! The first noise I made was when my Dad tickeled me and I snorted when I laughed… it’s only escalated from there. Wil, can I call you Wil? I appreciate your random stream of conciousness tweets and straight to the heart of the nerd mentality. I’m sure “they” also appreciate the echo feedback on my location when you make me laugh. Now then, where exactly do I sign up for my first chit? I completed the first step in the Wil Weaton 12-Step Social Program… right… guys?
Hi Wil! I’m Jen, an ex-pat Canadian living in the US ever since falling for a great guy over the internet. I found a job in a hospital blood bank and started a new life of my own 500 miles away from my loving family in Montreal. I absolutely adore my husband, and couldn’t imagine life with anyone else. We’ve got a 6-month old son now and life is so much more chaotic and wonderful (and sleepless and drooly) with him in it!
I used to be an evening shift blood banker, getting blood ready for surgery and emergencies, but now I’m making blood typing reagents out of rejected human plasma. It’s much less stressful work.
I’m a huge hockey fan (Go Habs Go) and was crushed when I couldn’t slip someone $50 for a ride on the teeny zamboni on the ice rink on JCCC3.
Your posts about depression really resonate with me, as I’m sure they do for many others. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone, even when things seem darkest. Thank you so much for being open and honest about that part of you.
Thank you, also, for making tabletop gaming so accessible. I got a few new games for Christmas and can’t wait to try them!
Hi, Wil! I’m Bethany, a soon-to-be 31, married, mum of one from Edmonton, Alberta. My son was born last year on my 30th birthday, and while he is the best gift ever, we are having aproper Doctor Who themed celebration this year.
We love conventions (our son was the Eleventh Doctor for his first cosplay), board games, TableTop, video games, comic books (Saga is a current favourite); the list goes on. We even took wedding pictures inside our favourite local comic book store.
I also have to say that as a person living with chronic illness and chronic depression, a lot of the writing that you’ve done on the subject of depression has helped me deal with things in a way I’d never thought of before, so for that I say thank you.
Hey Wil, this is James Wallis, a games designer from London. We’ve exchanged a couple of emails but I don’t “know you” know you. I do, however, owe you a large drink, and a meal, and possibly a small restaurant for mentioning my game The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen on your vlog, and playing Once Upon a Time, which I co-designed, on TableTop. The games hobby is lucky to have you.
I love Once Upon a Time, so thank you for creating it!
Hi, I’m an an Australian anime reviewer and boardgamer who hopes to meet you one day in real life.
I mostly follow you on twitter, but have just added the blog.
http://piratesobg.wordpress.com/anime-review-list/
I’m Jason and I’m the author of Blaze. You can find out about it and me at: http://www.blazingknight.com. I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation and it was partly responsible for instilling a love of thought-provoking science-fiction in me. I also have a love of sports, particularly football, martial arts, and gymnastics, but I’m a nerd at heart.
I loved your comments from Comic Con on the subject of bullies. You really knocked that one out of the park! Thanks for being an inspiration!
Hi Wil et al, I’m Sarah, a 27-year-old finishing my PhD in the area of comparative mythology, ancient languages, and archaeology — that sort of thing. I also write fantasy: short stories and novels (still yet to try to publish the novels, though). So I like fantasy (and some sci-fi), ancient things, astronomy, books, TV, and general geekery. Cool things I’ve done? I’ve worked at a dig in Israel, was a guest of an Austrian baron and baroness, and had dinner at the Russian Embassy in DC. I’m not much of a sports fan, but as a Cooke Scholar, I feel like I must support “Uncle Jack’s” sports teams — such as your dear LA Kings, Wil. I have a stack of board/card games in my closet but no local friends to play them with, and I’m tragically single at the moment — but all of the baristas at my local coffee shop know me, so I have that going for me. Some people here have interesting back-stories and struggles, but I don’t have much, just that my dad’s side of the family is a bunch of criminals (my aunt and grandfather have both robbed banks for instance).
As a fairly dedicated denizen of the internet, I have to thank you, Wil, for such an invitation and reminder for everyone to be a little more properly social. There are some really fascinating and just great people in this corner of the web!
Hi! I’m Sarah, a late-20-something nerd from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Currently I’m procrastinating on several assignments that I need to have done by the end of January. As much as I know I need to get these things finished, I’d much rather curl up with a beer and watch some Netflix. That said, I’ll probably wind up working on these assignments non-stop from now until New Years Eve to make sure I can attend the annual party my friend hosts. New rule: no Netflix until 2015 or this homework is finished. Whatever comes first. (It’ll be 2015).
WOW. My assignments are due by the end of December. Not January. #Winning
I’m Becky, AKA The Absent Minded Housewife, AKA Going Ape Costume. I housewife and I sew and I use power tools.
Hi Wil!
I’m Melissa. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and am working on my PhD looking at the experience of play of modern Euro boardgames. I also manage the tabletop gaming area for PAX Australia. We love your Tabletop show.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you & yours.
Heyo Wil and Wil blog readers. I’m Amanda. By day, I manage a group of physiotherapy clinics, an by night, I’m a video game lover, board game addict, magic card collector, and all around retro-nerdy-everything lover. Nice to meet you all!
