So I really loved that Leonard Balsera came up with some cool beer names for the Beer Baron in episode one of Titansgrave.
It appears that the Internet agrees with me, and a lot of folks have asked me if we’re going to release a homebrew recipe for The Old Chaotic Neutral.
I would love to do that, but I’m not sure what style it will be … so maybe you can help me out?

Any beer that say f*** you I’m gonna do what I want. So yeah .. some crazy stout that is REALLY good or REALLY bad depending on who drinks it.
Whatever it is, I think it needs to have an absurdly high ABV and the tagline: “Old Chaotic Neutral. It’ll make you CRAZY.”
I went for stout because the whole concept of the beer in the game reminded me of Tim Powers’ “The Drawing of the Dark” for some reason, possibly just the idea of a special beer for a special occasion. By the way, if you’ve not read it, it’s a great book.
India Pale Brown Stout Ale
If it is the Old Chaotic Neutral, it should be different each batch. Sort of a “Whatever is in the larder” ale.

Oh yeah. If it’s chaotic neutral, it needs to be wild.
Stout or IPA is the way to go, both are fairly old styles, and both can in it’s own way be both neutral and chaotic.
Although I would go for stout for it’s “darker” feeling, although the Imperial version of this is already taken

None of the above.
Old Chaotic Neutral needs to be a balanced barley wine of not less than 10% ABV.
Think about it:
Old – Barley wines take months to years to be ready.
Chaotic – a couple of pints of 10% ABV can be pretty chaotic.
Neutral – It can’t be hoppy or malty, it needs to be balanced.
Also, barley wines take so much work, they would likely be brewed in extremely limited quantities and reserved for special occasions.

Honestly, I want to buy the ebook of “Beers Of Titansgrave”. (I noticed you added a new brew in Episode Two, which brings us up to six named beers, right?)
Oh, Episode 2 crushed it again… I’m falling in love with this Stunt mechanic. I noticed the way you don’t do every bit of description as GM, but sometimes ask the players what they see. Neat trick there, and not something I’d seen other GMs do!
The correct answer is barleywine, but I chose (imperial) stout.
Of the choices, I had to go with IPA. I can’t help but think something more akin to a Chimay Triple would have been better. Some sort of twisted Abbey style ale…
Gotta be an imperial stout. On Nitro. Can you get your hands on some nitro?
A black lager with above 10% ABV. Like the Labotomy Bock. Lagers are generally known for being light and flavorless, this is strong, thick and at 12% its chaotic AF.
I voted Brown though, and I’d encourage doing something weird with it…Brown represents neutral to me, but some kind of twist to traditional brown ales would be “chaotic”
Stout is a Barbarian Dwarf.
As someone who is not a beer drinker, I would love it if you made a Chaotic Neutral “beer” something completely unexpected – like a fruit lambic ( https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Lambic#Fruit ). To that end, I voted for a Brown, since there are some fruit beers with a brown base.
I have no idea if this would be viable for home brewing, but something that you thought was beer but tastes like fruit? Definitely Chaotic Neutral.
It’s not a poll option, but my first thought after reading the name was that it should be a wee heavy.
Brown Ale certainly seems more “neutral” to me. Maybe not as chaotic as some Stouts can get, but certainly able to at least pretend towards neutral a bit more than a Stout. I’d certainly go Brown Ale “neutral” and then for the chaotic pick Sour or Spicy (Cardamom or Cinnamon or Lemongrass, just to throw out three random examples). [I guess for truly chaotic you could double down and try for Sour and Spicy, but you’ll be dangerously close to leaning Chaotic Evil.]
Probably a nitro. Possibly a scottish ale that while deliciously malty, has a surprising and irreverant bite of hops (not overpowering, but enough to make you shake your head and smile every time you say, “Old Chaotic Neutral…”).
Because it’s chaotic neutral, I think every bottle should be different. 🙂
