Either something in our air is poking my allergies with a pollen-covered stick, or I’m coming down with some sort of stupid summer cold. Either way, I’m am SO OVER having a headache, sneezing my face off, and feeling like I’m going to suffocate when I’m trying to sleep.
The only thing that’s working at all is Benadryl, which is fine when I go to bed, but during the day makes me feel like I’m wrapped up in a warm, wet, woolen blanket made of honey that is not just wrapped around my entire body, but also has a smaller version of itself wrapped around my brain.
So my options are basically: feel like I’m experiencing the world through three inches of honey, or feel like I’m wearing a suit made of bees. Since Friday, I’ve chosen the honey, and while it’s preferable to the alternative, I’d very much like to be done with this bullshit, now.
In other news: I’m writing a lot, five days a week, and I’m actually getting lots of stuff done, just like a real Writer does. This is what I was looking for and needing for the last year, and boy am I glad I found my way back to this place where I am right now (minus the histamine or whatever) because I can honestly say that I genuinely feel happy and content pretty much constantly since I did.
While I wait for the other shoe to drop, I have some really neat things in my queue that aren’t just these writing projects. I’ve been scheming with my friend, Sean Bonner, about making some super-limited art project things that we’ll release in the soon.
Speaking of the soon: Legendary Entertainment, which is Geek & Sundry’s parent company, has delayed the release of Tabletop Season Four again. It’s entirely out of my hands, and I’m just as ready to release it as the audience is to watch it. As soon as I know what the release date is (more specifically than “Fall”) and as soon as I know that date isn’t going to change, I’ll let you know.
Speaking of awesome books about dogs, we are selling A Guide To Being A Dog by Seamus Wheaton again, but it’s super-limited to only 200 copies. If you want one, get it now.
Okay, Benadryl, let’s go wrap me up in honey because the bees are starting to wake up.
So very happy to hear that you’re writing again. Can’t wait to read what you’ve been working on.
Super happy to hear there’s another season of Tabletop coming our way! Any news on the possibility of another season of Titansgrave? And no worries on the wait – the creative process is worth it!
YAY for writing! BOO for histamine and sniffling, sneezing, aching, coughing, stuffy-head shite. Honey is good, but not when it’s wrapped around your brain stuff…
Try taking a pepsid or other acid reflux during the day. They are actually antihistamines in a different way than benadryl. Works for me!
Sure, understanding today’s complex world of the future is a little like having bees live in your head. But, there they are.

Agreed. Also, summer colds.

Bad language under the click, kids! Be warned!
Feel better soon, Wil. Glad you’re still able to write even with the histamine (and anti-histamine) fog!
Boo, hiss on allergies. Here on the high plains, I expect that ragweed will begin fouling the air soon. Could your reaction be firing off due to the wildfires? Fire in the wild brush will vaporize all the wonderful oils and release spores and crud into the winds. And we are getting smoke drifting into the central plains now.
I hope that the Tabletop reschedule is not too much disappointment. You shared that you really worked hard to get to a good place for this season.
I know the feeling, Will! I go through this every year. The “medicine head” sensation usually isn’t conducive to a productive day, although it can generate the ethereal feeling of being disconnected from reality. That’s not such a bad thing! Keep writing, brother!

Having recently watched Suicide Squad I was struck by how the language has been absolutely stripped down to a second grade native English speaker level. Dialogue like: “bad guy there! Go fight!” and “Bombed placed. Let’s blow.” That’s a bit of exaggeration, but not by much.
I understand the reasoning from a marketing perspective. Make it as accessible to as wide a range of non-native speakers of English as possible. That’s just canny business. The result, however, is that native speakers — and those who are educated above elementary school — are going to continue to be confronted with films that are insultingly puerile.
In order to make TableTop available to the broadest global audience, you’re going to need to reduce the language to guttural shrieks (Liam Hemsworth in the entirety of ID2: Resursurgeancer), two-word, monosyllabic combos (“You roll!,” “I win!,” “Game good.”), and more extended dance sequences involving CG… erm… let’s say meerkats.
Also, you’ll need to have an Asian love interest.
Like Kiko.

Will 3 or 5 syllable combinations that illiterate still work with Americans who have one the planet’s most expensive education system & lots of scholastic testing? I am being mildly sarcastic. Yes Ihave noticed the dialogue dummied down.
What annoyed me was when insults replaced jokes with punch lines. I remember ” …your sister is so ugly…[[something clever here].” OR ” …your game skills are so bad that …[something witty here]. Now the insult is the joke or I must say the joke substitute. You have a great day!
Benadryl is the sleepy antihistamine. You need something like Claritin or Zyrtec if it is allergies. OTOH, if it an annoying summer cold you’ll have to stay with the Benadryl and wait it out in a honey-wrapped haze. Enjoy it!
Yeah, unfortunately, the others just don’t work for me the way Benadryl does.
you might try nasalcourt/nasalcrom. Works really well and you start getting less sensitive to allergens over time.
Might be the high-quality air of that ridiculous monstrosity of a city that squats itself around you. Might be over-purifying your nasal passages. Perhaps spending time parked on the 10 with the windows open during rush-hour wil help. Breathe deeply.
(Sure–I keed. Just taking a moment to poke fun of that…well…ridiculous monstrosity of a city that in all actually has an okay place or two)
My sympathies. There have been times when I lived on Benadryl. This part of Burbank is somewhat protected from the smoke but the hills are full of all kinds of pollen. Try store brand, sometimes it doesn’t make me as sleepy.
Add crushed fresh ginger-root to the honey.
You are a real writer, Wil 😀
Have you tried a Vicks (or other brand) micromist-style nasal spray? I find I have to use one of these for my catarrh as it works on reducing the inflammation in the nose vessels (or whatever it does) for a good 6 hours for me and is the only way I can sleep… (problem of having small nasal cavities)
Hope you’re feeling better, Wil.
Here’s an update on the ceremony for the new Star Trek stamps for you.

Have a terrific morning !
I’m glad you’re getting so much writing done! gives you a cup of tea I can’t want to see what cool thing you’re making now wraps you in a blanket Hopefully soon the Legendary dragons will stop hoarding Tabletop pats you on the shoulder because I know that patting a person with allergies on the head results in pain. For both of you I hope you feel better soon! 🙂
Antihistamine eye-drops help me during bad histamine days, if you want to do away with some symptoms without the honey-blanket.
It won’t help your nose or throat, but it’s wonderful to do away with sandpaper-eyes. I’m not sure whether eyes swell – or what’s going on with the eye histamine response, but the drops both make my eyes feel better and my vision clearer, which just generally improves the way I feel in a “more than the sum of its parts” kind of way. YMMV, but I’m glad that a pharmacist introduced me to them a few years ago. They tingle a little at first. I like the tingle – it feels cleansing – but just so you know.
There are a few brands – I’ve only used Alaway, it’s a Bausch & Lomb product.
Here’s some info so you can scan for any drug interactions or whatever. It’s just an over the counter eyedrop, but anyway – here ‘ya go:

on a completely unrelated note, I just watched you kiss Ashley Judd, so there’s that
I’m happy, you’re happy. I’ve noticed you’re staying off Twitter during the day which is such a smart strategy. Twitter becomes an easy way for us to share our thoughts immediately but I think that’s the problem because being so immediate doesn’t allow us to save our words so we can share them when they’re perhaps more meaningful. I bet a lot of personal bloggers have struggled with blogging when they switched to social media, especially Twitter and Snapchat.
I’m glad you’re writing again. It really suits you because you are a storyteller and face it, have a problem with authority. Being an entrepreneur/artist just seems to suit your personality better. In any case, you always seem happier with the effort and the result when you’re the content creator. Good luck with your short story and perhaps you’ll be inspired to do a Radio Free Burrito podcast.
As an aside; being half-covered with hives, I’m also in the Benadryl-zone.
Thank you for revealing the secret key, Sonja! I AM a “personal blogger”, and I LOVE Twitter (not so much FB anymore) to the point that my blog has definitely been neglected for the past month or two. Now I know. Stay off Twitter until I’ve blogged, if I have anything blog-worthy to say! Yay!
And to you and to Wil re: allergies, I’m only today noticing that I’m heading back into that ring. No bueno for me, as I start a four-week Scripty gig tomorrow. Time for my generic Claritin pill and Nasacort spray!
Do zombies like brains that are drenched in honey or does the honey have some kind of prophylactic effect that prevents the zombies from realizing you have a tasty tasty brain in you?
Just wondering.
Also, would you mind stopping by the lab here on totally-not-skullcrusher-mountain?
Also also, do you think Wesley Crusher had a caveman ancestry named Skull?
Also the third, do you think Skull Crusher was a master thespian who performed Hamlet brilliantly based on a copy of the first folio that was delivered to him by a theater critic with a time machine?
“experiencing the world through three inches of honey”
My mind went immediately to “Fringe” amber… luckily, you have more mobility than that
Bless the people who invented anthistamines. Loved the honey vs bee thing. <3 Feel better.
Hey
Allergies.
I loved Psuedefed & Benadryl to cope with episodes. The psuedafed is quick acting but not long lasting & has an ‘upper’ effect. I have no problems with high blood pressure or other contraindications for psuedefed & so this combination worked well. Then Psuedefed became no longer over the counter & became pricey & a hassle to get. Sad face!
Sending good wishes to you & yours.
It is beautiful here & probably there but put your head down & do the writing!

Ugh. We want Tabletop, we want Tabletop. Seriously, get in there and make it happen! We have waited for sooo long.
Yay for being in your happy place! Boo for having to share it with bees and/or honey, as the case may be.
Ugh! I am feeling you Wil! I am suffering the same! Damn summer colds suck! Feel better!
