The one time in years I deliberately point people to my blog for ONE PURPOSE, I discovered that WordPress hid the thing I wanted them to see. Neat.
I noticed something about the way I read books, yesterday. When I start a book, it's like I'm sitting in an empty space, completely surrounded by the fog of war. Over some number of pages, that fog is pushed back and the world in the book begins to populate the formerly-empty space. Eventually, that space is on the other side of a portal that I step through as effortlessly as I open the cover of the book. I guess I've been doing this my whole life, but I didn't actually notice and note it until yesterday.
Originally written in 2021, The Ghosts of Christmas Past is a tapestry woven from painful and joyful memories that all decided to surround me that December. I've added to it once, in 2023, and I added to it again this year.
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, in the 70s and 80s. I remember when this kid -- who nobody thought could even make the final, much less win -- in the All Valley Karate Championship.

I got both my Pfizer shots in February, by lucky chance. Welcome to the herd, Wil! May we grow big enough to keep the ones who CAN’T get the shot safe.
Thanks. Also, good luck.
I hope to get my first dose as soon as the pharmacy I registered with gets back to me with a date and time.
Awesome. An emotional moment. I wrote a poem about my experience, First Jab, Second Jab, on my website.
I got my second Pfizer on March 17. My primary care office has enough elderly to qualify as a geriatric practice, and decided age didn’t matter. The shot angel (we really call her that) was exhausted by the time of my appointment, second last of the day. I reminded her we call her that. Her eyes smiled behind her mask and shield. Less than half my state are willing to get the vaccine. The health department clinic is sending my pc some of their overflow. My pc office is requiring it of all patients and staff. I am grateful. Oh, and the headache is real, and vaccine generated. So was the nap.
Congrats! I had my second Moderna in the middle of March on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing that day, +2.5f fever for two days after, then fine. Great excuse for lots of sleep. Missed one day of work.
I am greatly saddened that we’re at the point where they have to start hunting down people who won’t get vaccinated. I’m immune-compromised and I really need the country to achieve herd immunity!
That shirt is so good…must have one. Also, thanks to you and all the other people that have a public presence for sharing pictures of your shots. oHpe this helps the sheeple get used to the idea that it’s OK.
Good for you, Wil! I had my second Pfizer shot last Weds. There’s a stick in the eye for all the selfish people out there who call us sheep and mind-controlled for believing science and that a pandemic even exists. I also only had a sore arm but no headache. I read that people who have little to no reaction have a suppressed immune system. But in the same article it also said that it might mean that or not, they’re (scientists?) aren’t sure. I’d also like to know if the vaccine is good for six months, a year, six years? Even the pharmacist who gave it to me said he didn’t know, and “nobody knows”. Still, I’m grateful to be a part of what helps all of this turn the corner.
It was sweet of you to tell the woman giving you the shot you won’t forget her.
Hey, just to share the science data – they’re saying at least the Pfizer shot is effective for at least six months, but that’s because they only have six months worth of tracking data to go off of so far because the vaccine was developed so rapidly (usually any vaccine takes a few years at least – it’s kind of a moonshot, when you think about it). So the point is that it is effective and showing no signs of slowing down so far. Also, because it’s a vaccine that sends a message directly to your RNA instead of the old-school method of injecting dead viral cells into your body to allow for a fake-out of antibody production, no piece of the coronavirus is going into you at all. I can’t speak to the other variants of the vaccine, but I know this is the deal with Pfizer. I’m getting my second one today!
Yay!!! Nice!
Waiting on my 2nd shot here in Canada butt upon waiting for my first Astra Zeneca I was thinking “Scared, side effects etc” but on the flip side “Take my shot, protect my wife and loved ones and those around me…”
One less person that can catch and distribute Covid is one less day of waiting for us all….
Good on you Mr. Wheaton 🙂 We are ripples to solving the problem. Each ripple is a bubble to the solution 🙂
Yay, Wil!!! I’m also soo happy and grateful to be vaccinated! 😍🥰😍🤗
Salt and Straw is so great (at least the Portland one is — I hope the rest are too).
You are such a nice person Wil. I’m sure that nurse will remember you. She was probably telling her friends that same night, “I gave Wil Wheaton his COVID injection!” You are a celebrity! Now just make sure you don’t feel too safe and take any chances; N-95s whenever you go out for a long while yet, as people who had both jabs have been known to catch the virus, but just not get as terribly ill. Why take the risk, when there are dickheads out there knowing they are infected and going about coughing on people on purpose? Don’t get sick.
I say go right for the Oligarchy.
Way to go Wil! You are a COVID crusher!
Welcome to the house of Pfizer! The more the merrier!!
I have to wait until the 12th for my second shot, which means I won’t get to see my BFF (that I haven’t seen in nearly 14 months) on my proper birthday (the 3rd), but by the Mystic Eye of Bowie, I’m gonna take that big gay man, lay him on my bed, hug/be hugged, and cry/laugh so long that my husband’s gonna wonder for a minute.
When I went for my first jab, the young EMT-type guy said he name was Dave.
“Dave? HEY! These are the Daves I know I know, these are the Daves I know!”
Blinks at me. “Huhwhat?” SO young. Asks me where I want it.
“Right here on my upper left, next to my smallpox scar, so I remember where it is!”
Blinks at me. “You had smallpox…?!” SO FUCKING YOUNG. But a really cool dude. As are you!
Your Pal,

Congrats! I got my second Moderna shot on April 1st. I took a three hour nap on the day of and had a sore arm for a couple of days after, but no other issues. Waiting for my husband to get his second dose and then we are going out to dinner to celebrate!
I’m getting my second one today! Let’s hear it for House Pfizer!
I am scheduled for my First Moderna dose Wednesday. I am homebound and eligible for in Home vaccination program.
Awesome! Isn’t it liberating? I got. Ask shamed the other day for wearing a mask outdoors. I’m a DVM, my hubby is 1 of 5 MDs doing the boat load of testing in Bismarck for over a year, seeing gobs of B117 variant right now. Yeah, I’m vaccinated but I’m still masking. Congrats and thanks for putting your word out there! #partofthesolution #history
Your website always gives me hope.
