50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

It’s OFF. Again.

Posted on 1 September, 2003 By Wil

I’m sure there’s some humor in this, somewhere . . . but the BBC is OFF again.
I guess there’s some breaking news about the bali bombings, and that’s actually more important than Goth day and the Governor’s recall here in California.
Heh. I’m uh . . . really chagrined.
So no go.
Maybe I’ll actually have time to write a worthwhile weblog entry now. It’s long overdue.

It’s ON!

The BBC Interview that wasn’t . . . is!
Tune in to Radio 5 for Up All Night at about 8:40 PDT tonight. Info is below.

Tune in, turn on . . . or something

For the past couple of months, I’ve been a semi-regular correspondent for the BBC. I phone in about every other week, and report on whatever it is that I’ve been doing. It’s really fun, and I love that I can add “BBC correspondent” to my resume. 🙂
Tonight, I’m talking about:

  • Goth Day at Disneyland (I went)
  • The recall election in California
  • Who is my hero and what makes a hero?

I go live sometime about 6:25 PDT (0225 GMT) on Radio Five Up All Night, if anyone would like to tune in.
UPDATE: Well, as they say in NASCAR racing, “Fuck.” Time has come and gone, I’ve sent lots of e-mails to BBC in the last hour or so . . . and haven’t heard back . . . I’m assuming that it’s related to the spam filtering problems that I’ve been having lately. Goddammit. >:( I guess we’ll try again another time.

Small World

I got the 20th Anniversary DVD of National Lampoon’s Vacation at Amoeba Music yesterday . . . after seeing Freddy Vs. Jason* with Darin.
It’s pretty good . . . the transfer is beautiful, the sound is great, and the movie is, of course, a classic.
The special features aren’t as good as I’d hoped, and they seem to have replaced “I’m So Excited” (AKA Christy Brinkley’s Theme) with some other Pointer Sisters song, without any explaination . . . but the commentary is really fun to listen to.
But check this out: the dog who played “Dinky” is the same dog who played “Chopper” in Stand By Me! I found this out listening to the commentary, where Harold Ramis told us that the dog’s name is “Popeye,” and that he went on to work in several other films.
(Freddy vs. Jason possible spoiler below)

Fun with words

Lenny Bruce rules:

“I took exception. I took offense,” [police officer] Solden told Bruce. “We’ve tried to elevate this street. I’m offended because you broke the law. I mean it sincerely. I mean it. I can’t see any right, any way you can break this word down, our society is not geared to it.”
Bruce said, “You break it down by talking about it … How about a word like ‘clap’?”
“Well, ‘clap’ is a better word than ‘cocksucker,'” Solden replied.
“Not if you get the clap from a cocksucker,” Bruce rejoined.

Speaking of Salon.com, did anyone catch Joe Conason on Crossfire? Every single Liberal in the world should watch it, and learn. It was awesome.
And if you are sick to death of the myth of the liberal media, (meaning that you’re looking for a non-corporate, progressive, honest news source) you should really subscribe to Salon.
