50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

Renew!

  • blog

Well, it looks like the time has come for me to step into the carousel.
While I am entering my 30th year on planet earth, WWDN isn’t even officially 1 year old, although technically I had the old, lame website up at this time last year…craziness.
My “My Yahoo!” page says, “Happy Birthday, TVsWilWheaton!” and when I click it, it takes me to this page. Check out who’s number 3 on the celebrity birthday list! This made me giddy with excitement last year, and it did it again this year. 🙂
Since it’s my birthday, I think I’ll start out the celebration by posting 7 things I’m grateful for on my birthday:

  1. In 30 years, I have never had a serious threat to my health, safety or general well-being.
  2. Anne.
  3. Just for grins one day, I put together a BBS for this site. It’s become one of the most wonderful communities that I’ve ever seen on the Internet…and the people who hang out there rarely talk about me…it’s all about them, and the virtual family that they have become.
  4. Batman. This has nothing to do with my birthday, really…I just really like Batman. Especially Dark Knight Returns Batman.
  5. Volkswagen. Without VW, I may never have been concieved.
  6. I’m not afraid to cry in front of anyone.
  7. Even though I kept her up most of last night with my “goddamned snoring,” my wife has made a valiant effort to stay up with me until midnight, to tell me “Happy Birthday.” She’s currently asleep on the floor cuddling the dog.

Finally, I am amazed and grateful that people even give a shit about how I’m doing, and what I’m doing, and take the time to make things like this:

—
Thank you to everyone who sent me this image, and the cool site that posted it, and thank you to the scores of WWDN readers who have sent birthday wishes, especially those of you who have been visiting this lame website since it began.
An extra-special thank you is due to the Monkeys in the Soapbox. You guys RAWK, and you know why.

RENEW!! RENEW!!

Update at 09:27AM:
The kids in Farkistan are even doing a photoshop for my birthday! It just keeps getting better!

crap! second! looking immature and not even getting it right.
thanks for a cool year of witty, interesting, insightful blogs. Though me personally, I can’t wait till it’s winter in california, so we selfishly can read more. You’re creating a monster here, Mr Wheaton – a monkey on your back.
now all I want is a ticket to LA, so I can come see some of your live stuff.

I know a song called “Turning 30” but I will spare you and not ‘sing’ it. Besides, you are already 30! So I wish you a heartfelt happy birthday…all the best…

Happy Birthday, Wil! Thanks for sharing so much with us all and for creating a thoughtful community where people can share their ideas and convictions with caring and respect for eachother.
The way you’re headed, being thirty will be something you’ll value rather than lament.

It’s a little thing, but talk to your car insurance agent — being an old guy gets you a break on the insurance costs.

    fedeh!
    Happy Birthday Wil!
I hope you have a special day this day and that it’s filled with fun time, great memories, and, most importantly, really cool presents.
Today is officially a no sock day.
No that doesn’t mean you can go around leaving your smellies uncovered. It means that no one can give you socks, underwear or other equally lame pieces of clothing. They all have to be uber cool.
Like a flak jacket or something.
    straight jacket?
    *drools*
    I should go now.

Anyone pick up on the irony that Wil’s birthday is also the same as NASA’s?
From the birthday page that Wil linked to in his blog entry:
“In 1958, President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which created NASA.”

Wil, 30 is a great age! I’m at 39, about to do the big four-oh, and I feel like I’m twenty (but with the maturity one expects with such an age—I think—I still laugh at fart jokes). My relationship with my kids is phenomenially wonderful (son 10, daughter 13), and if anything, they keep my perspective clear on the world around me (and keep me watching cartoons). Happy birthday, and enjoy the next fifty or sixty! They will all be absolutely wonderful!

    Hey Wil….Happy Birthday
I remember my 30th……I was 30 at the time.
Anyway, it was fun because I went to the Canadian National Exhibition or the CNE for the day. Its an annual event in my hometown and I looked forward to it every year when I was growing up. Once on my tenth birthday my dad asked me if I wanted a party or the 5 dollar bill he was holding….I took the cash and went to the CNE. Hey 5 dollars could do you the whole day there since every year the school would give you one free pass to the EX which I saved for my birthday and it only cost 10 cents each way for the streetcar so that would leave me $4.80 cents to blow. The had a food building that actually gave FREE samples so food was not a problem and the rides were only a quarter back then. Ahh the memories…..but anyway this is your birthday so have a good one and many more.

I always pop by this site when I need a smile and tonight I get to smile extra and send birthday wishes. What fantabulous timing!
    So HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Have a good one and make a point to do a random birthday dance of joy at least once today. Or.. at least something equally silly and somehow amusingly rewarding.

    30 is a sneeze. Enjoy.
And in honor of your birthday – and to help a good cause – I donated this morning and pushed you over your initial goal on the Breast Cancer Walk. You walk – I’ll donate.

    Hi Wil-
I wasn’t online during the weekend, but I want to belatedly wish you a very Happy Birthday. I turned 30 on May 7, so I know exactly how you’re feeling! 🙂 I can’t believe “the boy” is all grown up! (My hubby, our friend, and I, who gather every week to watch ST:TNG on DVD can’t help but laugh every time, in the early episodes, when someone refers to Wesley, as though he’s not standing right there, as “the boy”. Check it out-you’ll see what I mean. It just cracks us up.) Anyway, congrats to your brother, too, on his marriage. Last but not least, I clicked on the link to your Aunt Val- very touching. She seemed like a great lady. That’s all for now!
    Love, Alicia
