My WPBT Trip Report is currrently under
construction [insert totally awesome 1996 .gif of a man with a shovel
on a yellow diamond here. It’s retro-ironicool!] but I came across a
photo that so perfectly captures my Friday night at MGM, I had to post
it right now.
This comes from Flickr, via CujoFan’s blog. You will note that, even though I had position on Paul Phillips, he still managed to make me his bitch, which is probably easy when I’m playing near my gulp limit, and he’s playing below his "guess what I found under a couch cushion" limit.
I guess it goes without saying that Paul is a remarkable poker player . . . but until you’ve sat with him, and watched him completely pwn a table, you have no idea how scary good he actually is. Paul has said that he’s just about finished playing poker, which is a real shame. He could utterly destroy just about any WSOP field he enters, and I’d like to see him take at least one bracelet before he retires.
You either look really happy, or somebody just drove a spike up your . . .
Um, I think you look like you are having fun.
Aww, what a great picture! You look like you’re having so much fun! :oD
I wish I could have been there. I bet it was a fantastic time. Hopefully next year!

At first glance, I thought the picture captured you in the throes of laughter. Upon closer review, one can see Paul reaching for the pot to stack his winnings, which ties in nicely with your post. Still, it must have been cool to sit with one of the well-known professional players.
Hey, as an aside… why does the blurb at the upper right of this page refer to your audiobook as “JAG: THE Audiobook”? I thought the official title used “TEH”…
Sure wish I had a casino nearby I could play at and cool people to play with that were really skilled so I could learn a bit more. Everything I do is online. Fine as a “video game” type of experience, but it’s definitely impersonal.
I regret not sitting down in that game for a while, but the HORSEP game was too much fun and the 4/8 half kill was too soft.
It does look like you were having fun. 🙂
This is completely off-topic, but at first glance I read your title as “Friday Night at MSG” and thought you somehow made it to the same Mike Doughty & DMB concerts as I did this past weekend.
While that’s clearly not the case, have you managed to catch a Mike Doughty show recently? The “Haughty” tracks hold up quite well in the live setting, and hearing Mike scat with Dave Matthews during DMB’s set was a real treat.
He’s also a brilliant guy and good blogger. I hope he sticks around awhile just so I get to meet him — hopefully while doing my dissertation research at the 2006 WSOP. But we’ll see. In any case, he’s someone I really respect and admire.
