announcing announcements

  • Books
  • Games
  • Television
  • WWdN in Exile

I have three announcements, ranging from cool to awesome, coming over the next 24 hours or so. They’re all interconnected, so I could make them all at once, but where’s the fun in that?

I’m heading out to a meeting right now that’s related to one of the announcements, so feel free to speculate in comments if you’re looking for a way to kill time today.

Two things before I go:

  1. Watching American Gladiators on its own is mildly entertaining, but watching American Gladiators with Nolan is awesome. If they can stay focused on the events and stay away from any reality TV bullshit, this could be a hell of lot of fun to watch. I’ve already devised a drinking game: Whenever Hulk Hogan says “brother” you have to drink. Good luck making it to the first commercial break.
  2. Tron is coming to Xbox Live Arcade this week, and this week’s Rock Band DLC includes Number of the Beast and Interstate Love Song. Boy am I glad I got one of my two deadlines behind me already.

Oh, I guess that would be four announcements, I’ve just realized. The fourth, though, isn’t really related to the other three. Still, it’s pretty awesome.

So how’s your day going? Mine totally doesn’t suck.

Speaking of TRON, it looks like a sequel might be in the works, according to imdb.

I love the excited anticipation from everyone when you say things about upcoming awesome and cool announcements!

I was feeling pretty good until I realized I have to work the next nine days straight. =(. I am very excite about the announcements though!

    You’re such a tease, Wil.
My day sucks. But several other people’s don’t, including yours, so all is okay with me. I get to read happiness somewhere, which actually does make me quite cheerful.
Hmmm, guessing games, guessing games… uh…. does one of the announcements have to do with a show that you wrote a script for?
Have you got another book in the pipeline? Maybe it’s fiction…?
Ah heck. I’m no good at guessing games. I look forwards to hearing your announcements, however long you choose to string us out… 😉

    *thinks, ponders, wonders, scratches head*
Yeah no idea what it would be, so I guess I’ll just have to wait like the rest of them to find out what your wonderful 3 er um 4 announcements will be.

    Hmm…
    1. You’ve designed a new video game that is due to come out soon, and it is so cool EVERYONE will be buying it
    2. You’ve discovered a real way to to imbed subliminal messages (that actually work) into the game, to make everyone do exactly as you say
    3. You’re taking over the world

holy crap, i turned to my fiance last night during the show and said “we could do a drinking game for AG where everyone drinks with Hulk says “brother””. No lie.
    It must be done!

OMG Interstate Love song. I was just obsessively listening to STP and Velvet Revolver the other day. Can’t wait to hear what those announcements are. Meetings are fun, aren’t they?

My day is going fine, thanks for asking. I managed to stomp out three fires for my (now working from home) gig as a contract technical writer for the VA.
    Thrilling? Hardly.
But it pays the bills and keeps me in hockey jerseys.

My day is wonderful because I live in Illinois, and it’s sixty-five out.
    In January. 😀

um…. you’re going to be a contestant on American Gladiator?

I think Wils has been cast as young Eugene ‘Wesley’ Roddenberry in the new ‘Star Trek’ prequel.

Batman comic? It could be a Batman comic.
Umm… you finished another book? You’re starting your own comic book series? You wrote a musical using only Jonathan Coulton songs? You wrote a sci-fi screenplay? You’re guest writing a couple strips of Penny Arcade? You’re making your own webcomic? You designed uniforms for your very own WWdN 50,000 Monkey Army? Your image is going to be used in the next Rock Band game? You’re becoming an official Fark photoshop cliche? You…. is it Batman?
My day is a shining example of awesome right now, thank you for asking. 🙂 I gleefully await your four announcements. Yay for you!

Thanks for that info, @ Sarah. I’m have a flight to Newark tomorrow and I thought it’s kind of cold there. Your post made me check out the weather in NJ, and apparantly, it’s in the 60s there as well. Now I have to re-pack for my 22 hours in NJ…
As for the announcements, I can’t wait!

  16. caitlen315 says:

I’m with Sarah. 62 degrees here in Jersey, could be setting a record high tomorrow. Warm weather makes me so amazingly happy. @Jewels – if this weather is at all related to your trip, then you’re never allowed to leave!!

  17. Pat G says:

Ditto here in Lexington, KY. I like it when the temps are above normal. (except for in the summer…)
Your Tron announcement reminds me that I have to make sure I get the local cool art theater’s midnight showing of Tron at the end of the month on my schedule. I loved that movie.

Your single malt celebration has been taunting me for days. My deadline (the one I set for myself anyway) is today and I’m so not going to make it.
    Damn you, Wheaton.

You’re going to host a Tron-themed reality show similar to American Gladiator.

I haven’t posted a coment in a while so I’ll commment on a few of your posts right now.
First, I totally know what you mean about playground EQ. Back in my day we had the greatest playground ever built in the history of playgrounds. It was huge with a two story fortress which was great for snowball fights. Unfortunately, a few kids fell off the top level, and another kid almost hung himself on the rope lattice used to climb to the top so a year later it only had one level and anything dangerous was gone.
Second, I never got into Dr. Who. It was too weird for me.
Third, nice picture of the pink sky with the palm tree in the foreground. I love it when the sky looks like that.
Fourth, glad you finished your script. I hope you wrote a part for me cause you know if I wrote a script, you’d get the lead!
But I am disappointed you only had one finger of scotch. You have to multiply that by five or six. At least get a little tingle going.
Fifth, Tron was a really cool VG and an even better movie. If they do make a sequel to it I hope they use CCM helmets this time. I was always a CCM helmet guy and still use one to this very day. I hated the Cooper helmets they used in the original movie. They were just too round and ugly.
Anyway, be cool Willy, and good luck on selling your script.
    Mark.

Oooooh. Speculation. I can do that.
    Let’s see. Wil gets (to):
o Write a script for Legion
    o Write a game script
    o Be in the WGA
o A book contract for some wicked SciFi from Baen
    o A part in a movie
o A regular part in a TV series
… there are so many possibilities when the paper is blank!

Tron totally rocks! And since you asked, meh, it’s been Monday…(more at my website – I believe the links are in my profile?)

Can’t wait to hear those announcements. And I’m glad to hear people are having a good day. I tend to be pessimistic but I’m making an effort this year to change that. On the optimistic side: I get to work with some people in Philly soon on film archiving-related projects. And I’m getting together with a friend to watch Superbad.
The warm weather here in NJ feels weird – although I prefer warm weather, I just feel like January should bring snow.
If the new American Gladiator is as much fun as the previous incarnation from my teenage years, maybe I will tune in.

  24. SandieK says:

It was 60-something in North Carolina!! Yay!
WHich isnt as impressive as 62 in Jersey, but whatever.
I loved watching Gladiators again. I was disappointed the Marine didnt make it, but quite pleased that the little Asian dude (whose name I cant remember and will henceforth be known as “Smurf”) beat out his opponent (the one who almost made it during the Original run). He was waaay to full of himself for my tastes.
Looking forward to your announcements! Wee!

Think… Think… Think… Yep, I am working on thinking about what could those 3-4 upcoming announcements be? Uhmmmm… You are making me think hard and it is still a Monday ya know. Uhmmmm… so, what could it be? Perhaps you were asked to write a script for Dr Who or some other SciFi show? Perhaps not only write a script but also star in it and direct it too? Perhaps you were asked to write a script creating a new regular character, star as that regular character, direct the intro show of that new regular character (on Dr Who or some other SciFi show) and party to celebrate the whole thing? Could it be a Party with the Wheaton 300? Well, just speculations…. (Hand on chin, still thinking.) Maybe name the script “Wheaton 300”? What could those announcements be? I’ll bet there are good.
My morning did not start off so great, but as the day continues, it seems to be getting better, so there is hope to end on a great note. It brightened up my day to know that you will be giving us some announcements. Oooooh, now we have to wait. I will try to maintain my patience. Oh Wil, come on, just tell us. Go ahead and make our day in style. I am waiting…

We need to organize some Tron online multiplay. Light cycles!

My day is just plain weird. It started with a dream that was part :Black Snake Moan;, part psychodrama, part ritual sacrifice (a la “Symphonie Fantastique) and all weird as snake’s suspenders. Even though I think I learned something, I’m glad to see the hind end of it. Now preparing for work detail (lots of that when your wifeperson has MS and OCD.)
