50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

in a galaxy far, far away

Posted on 6 March, 2008 By Wil

Saul Bass was a graphic designer who did credits for films like North by Northwest and The Man With The Golden Arm. He was a talented graphic designer, who created some of the most iconic logos in history, including the AT&T Death Star.

Yesterday, I came across this student project that imagines what Saul Bass would have done if Star Wars had been released two decades earlier.

That’s freaking awesome. It’s so awesome that I feel a bit guilty about pointing out that “Staring Alec Guinness” is a pretty good description of the actor.

As the owner of the video says, you gotta check out the video response. And be sure to read the comment that the video response guys says on his video. All cool…

Dude, Saul Bass meets Star Wars? I don’t know if my inner geek or inner designer is happier right now.

Swinging, man. I’m snapping my fingers as we speak.
Now we know who influenced the the credits from “The Incredibles”…

Didn’t Joey Bishop play Tarkin in that version?

That’s brilliant! I love the old stylized animated intros. I’m always impressed when modern movies take the time to do animated intros too, although more often, they’re end credits.
I was happy to receive The Happiest Days in the mail toay, and now I’m not getting any work done.

That’s pretty well done! Very retro. Of course, it clashes with the look and feel of the film itself, but you can’t have everything…

Brilliant, and given the style of the late 50s movie trailers and credits, spot on.

I think you have to be my age (54) to TRUELY appreciate the work!! That was fun to watch.

The obvious tribute to this era that came to mind is the *fabulous* title sequence for Cowboy Bebop.
