50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

YES WE DID

Posted on 4 November, 2008 By Wil

ObamaWins.jpg

I just called Ryan at school and told him to look around, because he’ll want to remember where he was when Barack Obama was elected president.

I’m too giddy and relieved for deep thoughts, and there’s a bottle of champagne that Anne and I have been waiting to open for a long time, so I’ll just say: The nightmare is over. Now, it’s time to get to work.

    Welcome to socialism….
I am glad I saw a historic moment but I don’t regret not voting for Obama. America is about to find out what a bitter pill liberalism truly is.
    Congratulations President Obama.

Amazing simply amazing. Congratulations President Obama – it isn’t just Americans celebrating tonight.
The rest of the world thanks you for voting for change and protecting all of our futures.

I don’t know about this idea of socialism (we have yet to see what he has to offer), but I’m very happy tonight. Now the real work starts. Apart from that, congratulations, Obama! 🙂

man… i can’t believe it. this is like some sort of crazy dream. i mean, all the polls said we could, but we actually did….
    wow.
go us! now the world likes us again!

Woo hoo!!! Wow, I’ve never backed a candidate that won, what a strange feeling. It’s nice. I’m in Texas, so I only voted out of spite, but Obama ended up getting 45% of the state, which is pretty surprising in itself.

Slackers everywhere are rejoicing at the fact that they can continue to do very little… now with increased prosperity!
I’m just glad that there will not be a filibuster-proof Congress. Unlimited power is scary.

I’m very excited that President-Elect Obama has pulled it off. At the same time, seeing that more anti-gay legislation appears to be poised to pass in my state (Arkansas) shows me there is still room to improve.

wow. awesome. now, it’s time to harness all that energy of the election and make some positive changes for this country. Find a way to make health care affordable for all. Get us dis-entangled from Iraq and Afghanistan while still giving them the security they need to govern the way they want. Get our spending priorities straight. Convince the world that we really aren’t assholes, we just went through a really rough patch.
    Email just received from Obama:
“I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.
    We just made history.
And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.
You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.
I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.
We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.
But I want to be very clear about one thing…
All of this happened because of you. ”

We are partying it up here…
Congrats to the President Elect. And even more…
    Congratulations to America!
    Cheers Wil!

I’m proud to live in Indiana, currently 50% to 49% for Obama. I hope we end the night with Obama winning Indiana’s popular vote, the first time for a democrat since 1964. McCain’s hand/facing for his only four stops in our state versus Obama’s 49. McCain’s defeat means one thing, Global Thermal Nuclear War has been avoided yet again.

  15. Topaz says:

It’s way past my bedtime, but I want to stay up to see Obama’s speech.
It’s such a wonder to see people crying, singing, dancing. Such an uplifting celebration of hope and joy. If that doesn’t send chills up your spine, regardless for whom you voted, you’re in need of a pulse.
I’m not idiotic enough to think that Obama is going to be able to wave a magic wand (oh no – might he be a Witch as well as a Muslim??) and make all these problems vanish. I just don’t think he can be worse than the bumbling moron we’ve suffered with for the past near-decade and maybe, just maybe, he’ll be able to do some good.
I really do hope he can repair our global image. I hate knowing that the rest of the world sees us as an evil bully, unable or unwilling to separate individual Americans from their government.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!! Talk about history in the making. This is great. Get Bush out of the picture and lets have a real president. Great night. My parents, my older brother and I were watching CNN in my moms room when we found out. Thats something to remember. Something to tell my kids.

I’ve followed what you’ve been posting throughout the campaign. I love hearing from other like-minded individuals.
Plus… I cried hysterically for about three minutes after I saw the results. Always a good sign.
I do have some horribly ignorant friends who say that the world is coming to an end this January and that God will pass judgment on our country for doing the wrong thing.
Wait. Why am I friends with these people again?

Where I was: In my mom’s living room, at the computer, talking excitedly to some internet friends about John Murtha and Bill Shuster getting re-elected in Pennsylvania, wearing my Kennywood sweatpants and my fubar.com shirt, and waiting for the champagne glasses to dry, because Mom and I were having a drink no matter what happened.
I can’t believe that I’m seeing this in my lifetime. I think there’s something in my eyes…yeah, there’s DEFINITELY something in my eyes.

  21. SAL9000 says:

This is the single worst day in American history.
In the midst of finanical turmoil and TWO wars we elect a global appeaser/placator and naked Marxist.
Just a reminder, four years of Carter ushered in the modern conservative movement.
And Carter TOWERS over Obama in every objective and subjective category.
    FFT.

I stayed up to watch Obama’s speech..so happy I did. Not even 5 minutes into it I KNEW I made the right choice. I heard McCain, very gracefully, concede and noticed 1 HUGE difference in the few minutes of each speech.
McCain mentioned Obama – the crowd booed.
Obama mentioned McCain – the crowd cheers anyway…
Way to go America – you got it right this time! Let’s get to work 🙂

  23. the mocaw says:

McCain deserved better than the GOP. I could respect that man, and if he had run as a Democrat without Palin, I would have voted for him.
Congratulations to Obama, though! Now, here’s hoping he doesn’t screw it up.

  24. Anna Harriman says:

@SAL9000: My mother would like to say a few words regarding the comparison of Obama to Carter:
“Jimmy Carter endorsed Barack Obama. That’s good enough for me.”
That may be good enough for her, but I have to ask you, SAL, to please explain the objective/subjective comparison, in the name of bipartisan harmony & Wil not getting pissed at us for fighting in the comments.
I’d also like to compliment you on your excellent choice of name. Lovely shoutout to 2001! 🙂

    Yes, we did indeed.
I feel secure in the knowledge that when I wake up in the morning, I will no longer have to worry about the possibility of a President-Elect McCain. Our eight-year nightmare is finally coming to an end.

I must admit that even up to the moment I voted, even though I felt I was making a better choice by voting for Obama, I still wasn’t sure if he could truly help bring change about in America. Then, I watched as the people were heard, and he was elected. And, THEN, I heard him speak, and I cried. I now have renewed hope for the future of this country, and I’m ready to get to work. YES WE CAN!

  32. Jpilgrim says:
    4 November, 2008 at 9:29 pm

I pray to all that is out there by whatever name it takes, that we can look back on this day, we can hear this speech, we can remember this man and know we sent him and all of us to a glory we never had in the past. A glory which will guide not just our country but the world to a place of unimaginable greatness.

    From Dictionary(dot)com —
    SOCIALISM
    n.
    1. Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
    ——
Hmmm.. that sounds like something familiar.
    Oh, yeah… AMERICA!!!
    Capitalism doesn’t work.
The rich folk don’t give two shits about those of us who aren’t part of their clique.
    Go get ’em, Obama!

    @ Anna H:
Objective: Carter in the least had true leadership experience in being governor, had real-world experience in being a business owner, and had military experience in being a navy nuclear engineer.
Subject: Carter at his core was an honest guy, who didn’t have pretensions, manipulation and unparalleled egoism on the brain.
And thanks for the props on the screen name – my hunch is HAL9000 and its myriad variations was probably one of the first aliases taken on all the ‘net – but not so his much forgotten sister.

I’ve been in tears for the last hour! Thank you America! Congratulations to President Obama!
Do we HAVE to wait until January 20th???? Must worse than waiting for Christmas! LOL
Millions have finally awoke from their comas – to make this nation strong and wonderful again.
I wish I had a way to tape his speech. Best one I’ve ever heard!
    HUGGLES to US ALL!

And this time, don’t squander our goodwill!! 😀

  41. W says:

Not sure if I’m more pleased about McCain losing or worried about our coming adoption of weaker economic policies.
On the bright side, I don’t foresee Obama winning a reelection in 2012. Then again, it seemed unlikely for Bush, too.

  42. beelkay says:

  48. jbay says:

Sal9000: to call this the “single worst day in American history” displays a lack of understanding of American history.
Here are some dates you might want to investigate:
    August 27, 1776
    July 3, 1863
    October 24, 1929
    December 7, 1941
    November 22, 1963
    August 9, 1974
    September 11, 2001
    really, I could go on…

  49. Tanin says:
    4 November, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Congratulations from The Netherlands. Yes, I stayed up all night to watch history unfold (It’s 6:43am as I write this) and yes, it was worth it.

    Let change reign.
