It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the release of the final D&D podcast in season two:

"Here we go, folks – the final episode in our second series of podcasts with Acquisitions Inc. How will it end? The necromancer has the party on the ropes… can they hold him off? Or will they simply surrender in ignominy?"

After you've listened to the podcast, take a look at this. I believe it will amuse you as much as it amused me.

The number one FAQ about the D&D podcasts is some variation of, "Will you do more of these?" I don't have the authority to give a definitive answer, but I think it's pretty safe to say that all parties concerned are amenable to the idea.

I really really really really hope that you guys do more D&D sessions. They are one of the funniest and most intriguing things I’ve listened to in forever and a day.

That Encounter Power is Awesomeness. I want it!

Sweet, I was going to make a card for that, but you saved me the work! I run a game every Wednesday over MapTool, and anytime someone rolls consecutive 1s, I want to drop a “Wil” token on the table and display the encounter power card. Maybe I’ll have the power attack the enemy that was missed, just as a sort of gimme for missing both rolls.

Please! Beg them all on behalf of those of us whose vicarious enjoyment of these podcasts was off the scale! I really had so much fun listening. Really. Please!

What timing! I just finished the last episode and that card was enough to pull me out of the resulting sulk.

Jerry doing…that one thing…twice in a row, along with the aftermath of each…occurrence…was the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long, long time. I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t yet listened, but I was literally ROFLling the whole time.
Hope all works out and we get more of these at some point in the future! During each run of these podcasts, they are literally the highlight of my week.

Is the #2 FAQ, “OMG plz gibs us teh video”?
Jerry F***ing Holkins over at PA mentioned running a D&D game at Emerald City Con, how did that go?

/snicker. That is so going on the table for the Tuesday night game. As a matter of fact that threat was made after 3 people in our game Sunday rolled 1’s in a row. The fourth person was very very worried when the rest of us turned toward him.

That game was incredibly awesome, even though I blew one of my OMG WE NEED THIS TO WORK daily power rolls.
Scott Kurtz put some pictures of the session on Twitpic, and if you did a lot of work, you could probably combine his and my Twitter feeds with those pictures to get a sense of how that session went down.

Actually, this came out last week – because I listened to it then. In fact, I listened to the whole session. I have never played paper D&D before, but listening to this made me want to start. Got a friend of mine dusting off her 3e D&D skills and updating to 4e to run me through a few n00b sessions.
Hope you and the rest of those involved with this session do more of these! Was a blast to listen to.

Please please please PLEASE for the love of all that is holy in this world, do more with the Seattle guys (well, Kurtz is moving up there isn’t he?). 3 wasn’t really enough, 4 is a good number. Plus you added a bit more of real “back-in-the-day” D&D experience that us 80s players really enjoy in the podcast.
On the strength of this series of podcasts I have gone out and spent cash on lets see, the Core gift set, Adv. Vault, Martial Power and PH2. Shit I’ll be grabbing Arcane Power the day it comes out.
    I haven’t even played yet.
/em LFG southwest Chicago ‘burbs for D&D 4E, PST.
Wizards HAS to know the marketing power of this by now just by the download count of the mp3s and raw page hits. They would have to be incredibly stupid to not see this for what it is and keep something like this going.
This is easily the second best thing to playing yourself.

I would hope that one of the other FAQs is “ZOMG can I play?!”.
I really didn’t expect that listening to you guys play would be anywhere near as much fun as it was, but listening to you guys play was the perfect podcast to listen to on the bus to my own weekly game.
Thank you for capturing the joy and drama of DnD and please, if you can do more, share it with us.

+1 to getting pictures of the next one, should everyone agree to do so. Doesn’t have to be a webcam, or streaming video, even simple photos would be fine.

Seems like the “sadness” should have come from the mention of the Co-Creator of Dungeons & Dragons passing.
DAVE Arneson, the American co-creator of the popular game Dungeons & Dragons, which spawned a new form of interpersonal entertainment that captivated millions, has died of cancer in St Paul, Minnesota. He was 61.

It’d be good if you could manage to get a girl as part of the group for the next run, especially as you clearly need a rogue.
And on the subject of Dave Arneson:

I about died when Jerry rolled those two ones. I was laughing later that night and had to explain to my wife what had happened (thankfully she plays and understood). Mike telling Jerry that he sucked at this game was the highlight of my week.
The Encounter Power is priceless. I love it!

I really liked the D&D podcasts (both sessions)
whomever did the recordings could have done a much better job though. Likewise whomever did the site and nav design for the podcast pages.

Actually the #1 FAQ for these podcasts should be how to find them. If you search Wizard’s site, it’s a giant mess and maybe you’re lucky to find 1 or 2. There’s no cohesive archive like there was for the first set of podcasts. Can you get them to do something like that with your star power, Wil? I had to use a combination of searching your blog and wget to download them. Not everyone <3 ITunes.

Wizards is up to some serious douchebaggery. Especially when it comes to their PDF’s recently (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/04/08/1324213&from=rss). It’s their right to do whatever they want with their properties. It just feels like this is a step backwards. I can understand being leery of piracy, it’s a very valid concern. But, in my opinion, taking away the option for people to legally purchase your products that are no longer in production, only increases piracy.
Hopefully they’re just taking down their content so they can open their own store or offer it through D&D insider somehow. There is something comforting about knowing that I can get a copy of Chainmail or the original Blackmoor at the touch of a button if needed. Maybe I’m just being nostalgic.
That being said, I have enjoyed the podcasts immensely and hope you do more.

That oots was probably the most moving and fitting tribute to Dave Arneson I saw anywhere online. Someone showed it to me via Twitter, and I showed it to the people who follow me as quickly as I could.

  25. Wil says:
    14 April, 2009 at 8:28 am

I totally agree with you about the PDFs.
The worst part for me is that I was planning to complete my collection of old modules by purchasing them from Paizo, and now I can’t do that.

The podcasts are highly entertaining. I really hope you guys get to do more of these.
Also, I think the adventures of Acquisitions, Inc. would make an awesome comic book.

As hard as it is for some folks to believe, if you play D&D or other RPGs long enough, you will hit the dreaded run of back-to-back bad rolls at the most inopportune moments at some point. I felt so bad for Jerry since I’ve been on the receiving end of the withering stares and verbal punishment after epically failing a roll at a critical moment in the game. The worst is when you have the ultimate cinematic setup and you royally cock your roll shit up. In a Game Day campaign my friend ran a few years ago, I was kicking ass and taking names with my seductive female sorceress. It was the final encounter with the Big Bad and I had proceeded to pulverize the remaining minions and lackeys surrounding the evil wizard at the end of the room, making a daring, dangerous dash down the side of the hall, on my own, just as my companions who had fought valiantly up the center of the throne room met me at the altar where the wizard stood. There was no escape. He had been peppering mine and other characters with acid arrows all day. We were sick of him. I had one beautiful moment to blast the bastard in the face with my remaining acid arrow spell as fitting retribution for his own acidic assaults. My turn came in the initiative order, the wizard stood frozen in fear on the altar, I made an ominous, threatening pronouncement, all eyes were upon me and…you guessed it…I rolled a fucking 1!!! The DM had me slip very ungracefully on the carpet. Miserable.
It’s a horrible position to be in. It may be just a game but, at that instant when the cock punches are about to fly, it is the center of a universe of pain.
I do hope you and the PA and PVP crew can do more D&D podcasts. They are a blast to listen to.

I was trying to finish Jim’s taunting King Wenceslas when this popped into my head during my lunch break. I amused myself right into a random drug test* because I wouldn’t divulge what had humored me. They “aren’t the audience I was writing for”.
Yeah, Obi Wan didn’t make it any easier.
*They won’t seriously give me one. But they are beginning to wonder if they shouldn’t send to Seoul for Sydney.

I can’t believe you didn’t roleplay more. PA/PVP are sitting at a table with a damn actor and they don’t take advantage? *shakes head*
Chris’s mike also muffles or his position relative to the mic changes at some point.

Sure, it’s been a couple weeks since the final of these podcasts aired, but I just wanted to say I TRULY enjoyed the series 2 podcast, even moreso with Wil being a part of them.
The way too anal for his own good part of me however feels compelled to point out that I think you were really shorting yourself on your attacks there Wil. Most of the attack powers you were missing on (such as Overwhelming Strike) have the Weapon keyword on them. That means that you get to add the proficiency bonus of your weapon to the attack! So depending on what weapon you were using you would either have gotten an extra +2 or +3 to your attack rolls! I guarantee you would have hit on several of those misses 🙂
Keep that in mind if you get to do another one if these events! Seems like you guys had a blast regardless tho, which is the whole point anyway…
So what was it like being in an adventure with Jim Darkmagic? I hear he is shoots fireworks from his eyes and magic missiles from his arse!
