Second Season of Wil Wheaton Project. Yes or No? I hope SyFy channel has the foresight to keep it going.
So for those of you who don’t know, earlier this summer, I did 12 episodes of a silly comedy show on Syfy called The Wil Wheaton Project. It was basically The Soup for people like me who enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, as well as jokes about those things. If you’d like to see a bunch of clips from the show, they’re right here on my YouTube thing.
We’re officially on hiatus right now, and we don’t know if the network will order more episodes. I know that they liked us in a creative sense, but the ratings weren’t very good (ratings are generally not very good in summer, and while I don’t believe that ratings are as important as they once were, my opinion on the matter isn’t particularly important to the decision makers), but the people who did watch us really liked us. So I won’t know for a few more weeks, but until then, I’m on hiatus, which means I get to write more, play more games, and prep for season three of Tabletop, which goes into production in October.
Part of that preparation includes finding 20 games to play on the show, and as of today, I have eight (maybe nine) that are strong contenders.
What do you want us to play on the show next year? Would you tell me the game, the publisher, and why you like it?
Keep in mind the criteria for Tabletop game selection:
- Plays well with 4 people.
-
Plays in under 90 minutes.
-
Can be generally explained in about 5 minutes.
-
Has a high ration of luck to strategy, so everyone has a chance to win the game.
-
Looks great, has clear graphical design and photographs well.
-
Is not something we’ve played before.
I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments.

Heroes Wanted by Action Phase Games. It has a ton of replay value and no two games are ever the same. I mean who has never want to be a Super Hero fighting to make it on a Super Hero team.
Boss Monster by Brotherwise games. I would suggest that, if you do, you use the tools of hero-kind expansion as it adds some depth to the strategy of the game.
FIREFLY…. do I really need to defend this.
It would actually shock me if this game weren’t in Season 3.
Keep On Flyin’
I’ve run a demo of Firefly. It would take a good portion of an episode to even try to explain the game reasonably well. I love the game, probably one of the bests I’ve played, but I don’t think it’s learning curve is feasible for Table Top.
Zombicide! It looks Awesome, everyone can win, it’s extremely easy to explain, and it has ZOMBIES! It’s a clear winner!
Waggle Dance by Grublin Games. You get to play Bees. ‘Nuff said
Shadows of brimstone
Junta
Cosmic encounter
Sentinel tactics
Dune or Rex
Illuminati
Dead of winter
Run fight or die
Arcadia quest
Super dungeon explore
Sherlock Holmes consulting detective – though you would need to create a new scenario so as to prevent spoilers!
I love havok and hijinks!
http://havokandhijinks.com/
Seconded!
Talisman. It is a great classic game, and I would love to see it on your show! Maybe with an expansion thrown in there also….
If you are looking for people to be on the show to play the game, then I can totally nominate myself, but I will need a ticket to get close to you.
Game of Thrones
Invasion (From Level 7)
One of the Wings of Glory (WWI or WWII) versions.
… regarding Firefly, I love that game, but it is not explainable in 5mins by a LONG shot.
Havoc and Hijinks (especially if you’re going to do a show towards the end of the season showcasing multiple games).
Shadows of Brimstone (could be the biggest ‘new’ game this year and your previous Flying Frog games have been big successes).
Game of Thrones (probably the LCG….. loads of fun).
Firefly……. surely you could get some of the cast to join you with this one 😀
Star Trek Attack Wing.

I just picked up Black Fleet and looks like it would be a great game for the show. Also another game that would work out well would be Top This!
Braggart Card Game … A superb and funny ‘drunk’ story telling game.
Players tell a story of their daring exploits by drawing cards and playing the story cards from their hand. Other players occasionally have the opportunity to mess with the story for either points or comedic effect by using Liar cards and swapping a card or two from what’s been played.
Sometimes when playing it , even though I know I won’t win the round, I change the other players stories just to make their story more comedic.
There are terrifying ogres, monsters, wizards and the most frightening one the vicious village cat .

Rococo, Boss Monster, Bruges, Camel Up, Pirate’s Cove, Helios, Marvel Legendary, Tokaido, Sultaniya, Istanbul, King’s Forge, Rattus, Caverna
It has to be ZOMBICIDE.
Zombicide…. that is all
Boss Monster or Kung-Fu Fighting
Citadels! Discworld- Ank Morpork! Robinson Crusoe (looks greats, and the rulez are complicated only on the first sight)
Tiny Epic Kingdoms by Gamelyn Games
Dread (http://dreadthegame.wordpress.com/about-dread-the-game/), while its more of an rpg, and might take longer than 90 min (but if you were able to do Fiasco …), but it’s really suspenseful, and I think would film well. As for the rules, everyone already knows the rules: Jenga!
Also, FreeMarket (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=13545) another rpg, but with some cool mechanics, and a unique setting.
Like to see Pathfinder Card Game Basic Vers
As a suggestion what about the following
Tinner’s Trail – Visuals are great with the wooden bits – plus it is probably a more accessible Wallace game than some others (I was going to suggest London – but I was not certain that really has the visual element)
K2 – Seeing Will Freeze to death on the Mountain – which knowing his form is bound to happen and would be pretty funny 🙂
Lancaster – Looks good and who can resist a game where you can send men of to go and fight the French …
Lap Dance by Artipia Games 😛
Dead of Winter
Sorry if people have already said it, but I’d love to see Forbidden Desert show up on the show. It’d be great to see you attempt to beat another Leacock game.
Hi!
I vote for:
– HeroQuest
– “A Touch of Evil” by flyingfrog
– Descent: Journeys in the Dark
Manhatten project would be nice to see or Hegemonic
Pastiche or kingsburg
Compounded is fun too
Also Sentinels of the multiverse
Dead of Winter
An expansion of Last night on Earth
King of New York
Cutthroat Caverns
– semi-CoOp game. Group has to fight monsters, to not die, but only last hit gets rewards.
Quantum
– Strategy game where dice are your spaceships. In space.
Sentinels of the Multiverse
Cosmic Encounter
Sheriff of Nottingham
Twilight Imperium: Rex (or Dune)
Tales of the Arabian Nights
Dead of Winter a Crossroads Game (Plain Hat)
Age if War (FFG)
Nuclear War card game (Flying Buffalo)
Car Wars (I heard SJG is rebooting it)
Cosmic Encounters
Elder Sign
Pandemic Contagion
I think “Steam Park” by Cranio Creations fits all of the criteria mentioned above…and it is really fun to build your own amusement park. it’s basically rollercoaster tycoon – the board game.
As to some other great games:
-Sheriff of Nottingham (as mentioned above)
-Jamaica (awesome pirate-themed racing-game by bruno cathallha with beautiful artwork…Arrrgh, matey)
-Mice&Mystics
-Time’s Up:Title Recall
-Dungeons and Dragons Attack Wing
-Battlestar Galactica (I know: too complicated and waaaay too long, but: please?) 😀
And of course: Firefly with as much of the cast as possible (I think Wil previously mentioned, that Nathan Fillion has expressed interest in joining him for an episode but just couldn’t fit it in his schedule)
I meant Bruno Cathala, of course…misspelled his name…sorry!
Space Alert <- you HAVE to do this one
Galaxy Trucker, Dungeon Lords (hmm a lot of CEG games…), Camel Up and Love Letter (both take only half of an episode), Mice&Mystics, Dixit, Zombicide, Ghost Stories, Village, Galaxy Defenders, maybe a Mage Wars 2on2?
Dixit was episode 12 in season 1. Here => http://youtu.be/J6UlbxeDE0w
Illuminati, has great looking cards, unique ideas that players can riff on, as well as the potential for a player to step into thier role as a world order. Plus it’s been around for a while, so there is a bit of a classic element to the game as well.
XCOM: The Board Game by Fantasy Flight Games
Heavily (pre-launch) criticized for its app as core gameplay but ERIC M. LANG (designer) is convinced that it needs to be played this way. The app treats time as a valuable resource but will also choose the alien invasion plan and will interact dynamically to the players’ actions.
Each player is also a necessary part of the organisation XCOM and interact with each other. The base commander manages the budget for every player and sends interceptors to fight off UFO’s; the researcher buffs the other players etc. Tension is a very real effect as every player will want to do his/her best to roll dice successes since every failure to do so will hurt the campaign.
Playable under 90 min., 1 to 4 players with tutorial mode and choosable difficulty in the app if necessary. Also…. very beautiful graphic+miniature design and XCOM as video game is very well known of course.
Sentinels of the Multiverse
Zombicide
DungeonQuest
also BANG!
He posted that over here => http://wilwheaton.net/category/the-wil-wheaton-project/
Please play Stonehenge!! My husband and I just got the board game and it is actually 5 games in 1 board for you to choose from. You have a racing game, bidding game, bluffing game, war game, and political game. It’s fun!
