Halloween stuff and Tabletop stuff

Happy Thursday!

To begin: I did a Not The Flog that was released this morning. In it, I talk about the season three premiere date for Tabletop, offend nearly everyone for one reason or another, and bounce around on my couch while I wear a fancy Captain Kirk tunic.

Oh, I also talk about some dumb Halloween stuff that is occasionally amusing to me.

NEXT.

I co-hosted DC All Access today, with my friend Tiffany. I think it will be released in the SOOOOOOON.

ALSO.

I listened to a fucking amazing NPR show this morning, from Snap Judgment, called SPOOKED V. It’s a collection of fantastically creepy and scary stories, just in time for Halloween. I highly recommend it.

FINALLY.

I’ve been spending a fair amount of time on archive.org recently, and have been doing my best not to completely fall down the rabbit hole of amazing films and weird bullshit they have there, but this time of year, I just love checking out some of their old and creepy silent films. I mentioned on Not The Flog that you can see The Golem there, but you can also watch a gorgeous transfer of Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror, a silent Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde short, and the unforgettable 1960s B-Film classic, Carnival of Souls.

I’ve been having such a good time downloading and remixing things from the Internet Archive, I almost feel like I could just write about it and publish the stuff I make for the next several weeks, but I have other duties to which I must attend. So until next time, have a happy Halloween, and PLAY MORE GAMES!

OMG! Tokaido is first!!!! YAAAAY! ALL SHOUTY CAPS. and, for the record, those were the BEST Halloween tips EVAR!! I liked the lard one the best. I figured i could cook some bacon and use that grease instead, after waiting for it to cool down. Or not. Whatever. On to games!

I intend to play plenty of games, and I’m very much looking forward to Tabletop. BTW, that tunic is very much your colour 🙂 I’m spending Hallowe’en watching Ghostbusters on the big cinema screen with my fiance for his birthday 🙂

I’m taking my kids to see Ghostbusters on the big scene too for Halloween. Great Minds Think Alike.

Metropolis is another great sci-fi/surreal film at the archive you can watch for Halloween. As for being a woman in vidja games, it was always scary. Thank you for fighting the good fight for us, Wil.

PS: A pillow case full of candy WILL leave marks if you pass out with your face on it for five hours. Smarty dents last for days.

Hooray, only two weeks! I’m really looking forward to Mice & Mystics, whenever that one actually airs. I suppose I could just buy the game and experience it now, but for some reason I want to watch you guys play it first.

You did not offend me at all. I did, however, cringe a few times in anticipation of the humorless dicks that will get offended and I do not envy you the tweets/comments/letters you are going to get from said humorless dicks. For me, it is fun to offend people that are easily offended but I dislike offending those that are difficult to offend.
Until nexxt time…. OFFEND MORE DICKS!!

It would be great to not have people say ‘I would not have expected you to say you played THAT game’ when I tell them I play first person shooter games on my xBox. Yup I’m a woman. I play FPS. Why is that so shocking? Thanks for being a great guy!

I’m excited for Season 3 of Tabletop, but I’ll be even MORE excited when the Crates of Awesome are sent out. When will that be?

Wil, why are so many of the games behind you still in shrink wrap?

+1 on hoping to hear when my loot crate of awesome will be on its way!

Loved this episode. If Syfy won’t give us your program anymore at least I hope you keep doing stuff like this.

Wil, why are so many of the games behind you still in shrink wrap?

Either because I haven’t had time to play it, or because it’s a game that I love, but when we have a game day, we play a copy that one of my friends brings over.

+1 on hoping to hear when my loot crate of awesome will be on its way!

I think it was about two or three weeks ago that I approved the stuff that will go into the loot crates, so they should be shipping soon.

Will – any news on the Lootcrates? It’s been over a month since you approved everything and I’m excited to get my hands on it.

    Great non-Flog, you’re awesome Mr. W. Can’t wait for season 3.

Well, except that I have to. Crap.

Where’d Wil get that Kirk shirt? So much nicer than the ones I usually see for sale.

I was invited to two Halloween parties tomorrow.

One of them involves board games and the other one involves dancing.

Guess which one I intend to attend?

    Happy Halloween, Wil!

Obviously a year behind and have missed Halloween. What about famous Halloween comedies? Arsenic and Old Lace, Blythe Spirit, Spaced Invaders, Young Frankenstein?

That’s a hillarious video! I almost peed myself laughing!

Wow! Nov 13th! I’m hosting a game night on the 15th, so as long as people are up for watching something in English, we’ll watch it then! I’m so excited!

By the way, “Interview with the Vampire” has interesting references to “Nosferatu”, so if you haven’t seen it…

And on Youtube, I just saw your interview on “Larry King Now”. That was such an awesome interview. If someone were to ask me to describe briefly who you are, I’d show them that interview.

Ok, so much for totally unrelated things. Can’t wait to watch the first Tabletop episode. I still need to figure out if I should buy Tokaido before then, so I can play it right afterwards if I like it or if my wife will kill me if I just randomly buy another game. Maybe I’ll also buy Takenoko, because Pandas. That might protect me. All right, if someone wasn’t sure how excited I was about Tabletop season 3, they can tell by my incoherent babbling. 🙂

I just wish you didn’t swear as my girls would have loved to have seen this episode!

I just hope the shows (bar CaH) will be okay for them (or you bring out clean edits) as they love the show.

Secondly. My boyfriend and I are HUGE fans of yours! We love you!

And lastly. Are you doing the redditgifts 2014 Secret Santa exchange this year? If not, why not?

Don’t get me wrong: I love zombie-stories + films. But whatever it stems from, and whatever it used to mean: Nowadays, Halloween is just like Mother’s/ Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day: Nothing but industry’s giant effort (and success!) to extract money from consumers for useless things.

Good for those who love every opportunity to party (and like “scary”), bad for a lot of houses and things that will be vandalised tonight: Halloween is a perfect opportunity for robbers + burglars to disguise themselves and work safer + easier, as well as for teenagers to get drunk comfortably.

Women alone out on the street at night on Halloween are about as safe as they are at carnival at all times, namely, not. Men in disguise, and in celebrating crowds, can very easily sneak a grab, or force “a little kiss”, or more.
And I bet there are a lot of little children who are really scared by the whole scare-shebang – but they have no chance to avoid it…

Here in Germany, US Halloween customs are merely aped, we don’t have any traditional reference to it. Lidl sells normal goods “disguised” as Halloween-goods (sweet + sour pumpkin, beer, muffins, table-decoration, sweets, etc.).
It’s a farce, the economy makes a lot of money with it, and I don’t like it.
