I spent much of today going through last night’s post comments, and making sure that people I’d inadvertently blocked on Twitter were unblocked.
But, uh, the thing is … after going through about 250 links, I’d only actually blocked three of them. Everyone else was “just in case” or something like that. I thought, gee, maybe I didn’t make the instructions for finding out if you’d been blocked clear enough.
But the other thing is, I ain’t even mad. Because I did that today, I saw a couple hundred real people’s faces, and got a tiny little glimpse into what all of those people have been doing with their lives. It made me feel connected in an unexpected way (it put the “social” in “social media”), and though it was time consuming, it turned out to be a nice way to take a break from doing actual work.
And it gave me an idea: Why don’t you introduce yourself to me and other WWdN readers?
Leave a comment in this post that tells us a little bit about yourself, if you feel comfortable sharing that sort of thing. Don’t post personal stuff that could be too revealing or hurt your privacy, but maybe share your first name, if you’re married, have kids, what sort of work you do, and maybe something that you like.
The idea is that, when you see the actual, real, human person behind a screen name or twitter handle or whatever, it’s a tangible reminder that we are all people on the other end of the connection. We’re people with families and jobs and hobbies and passions and hopes and fears and we all live on the same piece of rock, hurtling through space.
Of course, you don’t have to do this, and I can’t stress enough how important it is that you protect your personal information, but since I enjoyed the social experience of feeling connected to actual humans, maybe you will, too.
Or maybe you won’t. I’m not the boss of you.
Hi everybody. I’m a big sci fi fan and musician. Thr original Star Trek movies were my first love but then TNG happened. Now a days I’ve successfully converted my wife into a Whovian and am working on getting her to finish reading The Infinity Gauntlet so she can move onto Annihilation.
I too have a “Henry Rollins” story, but mine is with Jonathon Frakes. I was attempting to talk to him at a comicon but became tounge tied. When I asked him about the Family Guy TNG episode, he looked at me like I had 2 heads and when he saw my Admiral Riler action figure I wanted him to sign, it was all over. Should of gotten in Brent Spiners line instead, he was happier that day. 🙂
Howdy!
I’m in rural Kansas, small farm, born and raised in Seattle.
I’m 43, a nurse, mom of three TableTop kids, including 2 teens that LOVE the “retro” games of the 80s & 90s, especially Zelda.
But most of all, Wil, I want to thank you. A while back you tweeted a Kickstarter link to Neil Gaiman (I’m a Gaiman & Palmer fan) about a teen girl raising honeybees. I had considered bees, & if she could, so could I.
This year our area started a beekeeping club, I’m now Vice President. We’re helping new people get started in bees, including soldiers with PTSD.
So Thank You, Wil, for opening this amazing chapter in my life. I owe you a jar of honey (I’ll be in Pasadena in May- perhaps I can hide it somewhere for you.
Hi, Wil. My name is Brendan, I’ve been following you religiously since rediscovering you on the PA/PvP D&D podcasts. I am also a huge geek in my 40s, and I want to say keep up the good work.
Hello, Wil and friends. My name is Tim, and I am a fellow nerd. Tabletop is one of the top fave shows I watch, and tabletop games have become a major passion of mine. I also volunteer at a lot of fun runs and mud runs. Currently, I work for a contractor for the Department of Defense (and no, I don’t know any nuclear launch codes) which is very fulfilling, as I finished last year at this same time unemployed.
Hi Wil and everyone else,
My name is Jon, I don’t twitter and I barely facebook. I am originally from Michigan and left there to get some tech training from the Navy. Spent a stint in that org traveling the world, seeing many wonderful things, until my time was up. Now I live in the mountains and am happier then ever. Work allows me to listen to many audiobooks, so I took a listen to ‘Happiest days of our lives’ and also listened to Wil’s reading of Cory Doctorow’s ‘Information doesn’t want to be free’ and ‘Homeland.’
I enjoyed all of them, so in all, I want to say thanks for taking the time to read those so I could hear the story during my drives for work. They made my work days a little better.
I’m not a geek or a gamer. My kids and ex are, though and we are all constantly together, I saw an episode of the Wil Wheaton Project (after Comic-Con) and didn’t realize how popular you’d become. So, I decided to follow you on FB. I now understand your popularity and the genuine affection your fans feel toward you. It’s always delightful to read your posts and I will continue to do so! Roz
Hey, Wil. My name is Rebecca and I live in Alabama. I’m almost 19 and I’m getting my degree in psychology and then a masters in childhood development psychology. I have A.D.D., dyslexia, general anxiety, depression, and O.C.D. You’re an amazing guy.
Hi Wil and all of the Internet.
I am at that limbo point of my life between gigs trying to figure out the next step. Limbo has been going on for a year now. I’ve worn different hats over the years but feel like its time for the “And now for something completely different” phase.
When I’m not dealing with Limbo, I’m an avid YouTube fan, following Geek & Sundry, everything the vlogbrothers put out, Jenna Marbles, and Julien Solomite. Oh, and Sorted, cause food. I love anime, EVERYTHING Kevin Smith and I follow Instagram pretty regularly. I also love reading and am currently nose deep in Amanda Palmer’s book.
It was because of watching TableTop I have begun to find my place in the gaming world. In the past I dated gamers and watched them play but never joined in, and in later years was always in the fringes of LARP and tabletop RPG groups, but never seemed to fit in there as well. Since then I am a CAH collector as well as a contributor to season 3 of TableTop and am building my collection of board games (just got Ticket to Ride yesterday). I hope to begin weekly game nights if I can dig up enough interest to play.
There is always more to tell, but thank you Wil for giving me the opportunity to say Hi!
BartGold on Twitter, FB here. I’ve been an avid Get Excited And Make Something type since age 5, and always inspired by the power of a good story. Like many, I first saw Wil in Stand By Me and then TNG.
I moved to LA to pursue film and TV writing. Read 1000s of scripts for film companies. I also made friends with some folks who made Trek hand props, so I had a small hand in that around the DSN/Voyager era.
The first time I saw Wil in person was at the ACME comedy theatre- an SNL style make-up-new-sketches-constantly affair which I’d been seeing for a few years by the time Wil joined. Wil was great in the ensemble. I think improv is a valuable life skill as well as a creative skill. Following it has led to many great things for me over the years, including the improbable circumstances that led to me getting to play a goofy Trekkie in Brent Spiner’s web series.
Through perseverance and some luck, I managed to sell some screenwriting, and carve out a toehold in the entertainment world.
I still make physical stuff all the time. It’s inspiring to watch people who get to make things they truly love, so the rise of the whole Geek & Sundry empire has been great to watch, as has Wil’s continuing journey. Kudos.
My name is Matthew. I am a very busy man.
I am a computer programmer, which is also my career.
I am a second-degree black belt in aikido and assistant instructor for kids’ and adult classes.
I am an amateur musician playing recorders and bass viola da gamba, singing and started learning the violin back in March 2014. I like early and folk music.
I am a morris dancer, having started just over a year ago and now been elected deputy squire of my morris side because, as one member said while nominating me, I always know what the dances are called, how they go and what tradition they’re from and what the tune is. I always thought that was fairly fundamental information myself… the violin was mostly learned in order to play for the morris side, which is great fun.
I like to cook, knit, crochet and watch sci-fi. I would like to watch fantasy, but for some reason that never seems to get adapted very well (there are a few exceptions of course) so that’s mostly confined to reading, and I read many many books to make up for it. I am a huge Patrick Rothfuss fan and I can rewatch Futurama and Avatar: The Last Airbender over and over and over again.
I barely have time to have a boyfriend, but somehow he keeps sticking around anyway.
I feel very privileged to be part of such a diverse slice of the internet as these comments have revealed your readership to be.
Hi, Wil!
First of all, thanks for letting us experience the social in social media, too. Reading the responses makes me feel like I /am/ part of a larger community, albeit online.
I’m Janica Buenconsejo (@janica_buenkie on twitter, and zombiesateyourbrains.wordpress.com in the blog-o-sphere). I work for an SEO company as a content writer for our clients. I’m a geek mainly because my father is a geek and total fan-geekery is how we bond.
Growing up I thought (and my family thought) that I was going to be a doctor. But alas! The Universe and the God above had other plans for me, and now I’m working towards becoming an actor and writer.
I started blogging when I entered University, and I really /really/ loved it. I was just talking about television series, films, books, my experiences, and I made friends because of it. I guess my only regret was letting anxiety get the better of me. I got a barrage of questions of what my plans are for the future, and it scared me, because I realised that I didn’t know what I actually want to do. The rebel in me woke up and I started becoming lax in my studies, deleted ALL my posts on my blog (which I regret deeply, I’ve made a lot of friends and didn’t even flinch when clicked on Trash), and stopped caring altogether.
Long story short, I met a bunch of people who’s interests are quite like mine. We talk about the arts, philosophy, science, and everything geek, and I think they helped me get out of my sink hole.
Recently, I started blogging again, and it feels really great!
I commend your bravery to get to know the motley crew of humanity. I’m a mom, new grand mom, wife and a nurse. Big sci fi fan, watched TNG from start to finish. Love books and all kinds of nerdy things. Played Everquest and WoW for quite a while, but I’d rather read a good book or check out a podcast instead. Thanks for keeping me and my family entertained through the years. 🙂
Hi Wil, Anton here. No last name because I sometimes blog about politics, and apparently a public servant doing that will bring down the country, or something. I’m married, two kids (teenagers, girl and a boy) and am, as mentioned, a civil servant, from Ireland.
I am first and foremost a gamer – got my first D&D (pink/purple box Basic edition) for my 12th birthday. I’ve been gaming ever since (and of course follow Tabletop – I’ve met several of your Tabletop guests over the years) and of late have been running a D&D campaign for a friend, her kids and my son. I also make it to a monthly boardgames day held in a really good craft beer pub! I’ve also been involved on the fringes of con-running, my favourite bit being the Gaelcon (www.gaelcon.com) Charity Auction.
I’m also a home-brewer and a craft beer fan (and confess to being a little irked at your preference for Diageo PLC’s Guinness when there are better, actual craft, Irish stouts out there). I managed at one point to get my hands on a bottle of w00tstout, and donated it to Gaelcon’s Charity Auction, where it sold for €300! It’s my secret ambition to get you to come over as GoH to one of the Irish cons… doh!
I really appreciate WWdN – all aspects of it. It’s so refreshing to see someone be open and honest about issues like depression, and is a real help to many, many people, I’m sure.
/salute and thanks!
Hi!
I’m Matyas. I live in Hungary with my fiance.
I’ve started reading comics and watching Star Trek when I was ten, playing rpg-s around fourteen. I had my problems, like everyone, but escaping to other worlds helped. The last couple of years I drifted away from these things and the problems stayed… But thanks to people like You, Felicia Day, Kevin Smith and others my geek flame has been reignited. We play Star Trek: Attack Wing, Magic, video games and (re)started a comicbook collection… and it helps. I’m even geeky about things that are not traditionally thought of being part of geekdom, like my knife collection.
So. I want to thank You!
I’m even trying to be less of a dick 🙂
Hi, I’m Andy from Aberdeenshire in Scotland,
Married (my wife is awesome), have a daughter, assorted menagerie of creatures, work in IT. I take pictures.
Dipped in and out of following you for a long while , Wil, bought a couple of your audio books, loved your RFB podcasts (moar pls)
I battle with shyness (shy as opposed to introverted), held me back a bit in life probably. Somehow, I did not managed to project a super confident online persona in social media, so what you see there is what I am 😉
I’m on the G+ +AndySmith and ello (/andysmith).
Have a good day 🙂
Greetings, Wil. My name is Jason, though I tend to go by the pseudonym Raven Stromdans when writing, especially when doing so online. I’m a computer gamer (after selling the damn things, I’ve grown to despise console systems), a reader and sometimes a writer, infrequently a poet. I’m a father of a teenage son and a former-husband. You and I are of an age (I turned forty in Sept) and I’m still trying to make enough sense of life to determine what I want to do with mine. In the meantime, I’m mostly just marking time while I wait for that certain something to reveal itself.
Good Journey
My name is marie, I’m 37, mother of two girls age 1 & 3, I’m from the UK. I gave up my teaching job to be with my girls. I love gaming, both tabletop and computer, not that I have much time for it these days.
Can’t wait to share my love of games with my girls, started this christmas by buying my 3yo connect 4, she loves it. So much more to tell about me but that’ll do.
My tag is njmoleman, I’m just this guy, who hit 50, loves sci-fi, geeking with a computer since 1978ish, married 19 wonderful years to former Nail Tech turned educator, lives in the mountains of northwest NJ, and is running as fast as I can so that life doesn’t catch up with me and bring me down. Have enjoyed all your books, and lives a little vicariously though the things you publish, no matter the media. its refreshing to hear that other suffer from the same issues as we all do, that no matter the popularity or fame some have, that we are all the same.
Heyhey, I’m 28 and live in Canada. I am a mother and a registered nurse. I have a dog and two cats (cats were rescues). I love all types of video games and board games, I also enjoy reading fantasy and fiction novels. I write stories for fun but have no desire to publish, I just enjoy the act of writing. This post reminded me of the good old days of yahoo chat where people always typed “A/S/L?”…only less creepy, so thanks for the nostalgic moment.
Hello Wil, I’m a 51 year old Georgian who’s enjoyed your work since Star Trek, 2nd Gen. I enjoy the absurd and like blogging about history and what would have made it more odd. Thanks for liking the home brew (I make mead myself) and doing the table top games.
Hello Wil,
My name is Raygan and I am a 40 year old geek. While I never really enjoyed Wesley Crusher as a character, I really like you as an actor, and I love reading your blog, listening to your podcasts and watching Tabletop. You were the reason why Leverage and Big Bang Theory became my favorite shows.
Hi, my name is Angie. I’m married and have a son I adore. My work is in education, as a special education coordinator. I’m a life-long fan of Star Trek, love board games, and enjoy reading your and Anne’s blogs (as well as too many others to list!). You’re the reason I yell, Carl! in the middle of a passionate speech.
Hello Mr. Wheaton. My name’s Belinda but I prefer Raven. Been a fan of yours for a number of years, ever since Stand By Me. Since I live in the one state that people think is more distant than Anchorage Alaska and about as frozen.
Admittedly I still chuckle at all the “shut up, Wesley!” Memes, though he’s saved their warp drives on more than one occasion.
In closing, maybe some day I’ll see you in person, until then stay original!
Good day sir,
My name is Andrew and I’m a singer/songwriter in Missoula, Montana crafting songs for young humans. It turns out you and I have a connection in friends (he like bourbon) who suggested you might be a worthwhile human being, and happily agree!
Enjoy your work and philosophy. Should you ever want to go to the liberal bastion of Montana, let me know!
Andrew
Are you regretting this yet 😉
My name is James Meszaros. I live in Prince George, BC, Canada. I’m an I.T. Network Administrator at a mine in the middle of the mountains. I’d like to thank Wil and Felicia (and the rest of their crew – and their guests) for Tabletop. Thanks to Tabletop our family is playing games together again (for the last couple years)!
Wil… We need another Photoshop Wil Wheaton project? (I did the one of you being grabbed in space in the groin by the pod from 2001).
Cheers!
Hello Wil,
I am Michael, and I’m a musician, artist, and “enthusiast”. I’m a dad and a dog’s pet human.
Hey there!
I’m Kristin, and I’m a 31-year-old nerdess from central Florida! I especially love most anything animated (Japanese, American, Canadian, Bristish, Traditional, CG, etc…), gaming (video mostly, but I play Tabletop games from time to time. I also love your blog/ Talbletop vids, and your adorable-as-hell pet photos (the bf and I have 5 cats, and have siblings with boths cats and dogs)
Thanks to my crummy health I’ve been dealing with since I was about 8, I can’t work normally, so I help my boyfriend run our Etsy page while he’s at work. We make what we just call “prop replicas”, and its always rewarding to see pictures people send of their orders, like the Velociraptor heads being center stage at a Jurassic Park themed wedding, or a Walking Dead man cave sporting our wall burtsingzombies; it makes me feel a lot less sad I can’t do more.
Hi, I’m Ian, big fan of the gaming stuff and views in general you push out here and there. Hitched to a lovely lady, 2.4 children, 1 manic rescue dog, and 3 gerbils.
Used to be a director for the RPGA in the uk, writer for Sarbreenar the living city, playtester for numerous systems, and general gamer. Now just a hobby gamer trying to enjoy gaming.
Hello everyone! I am Elisa (@korppisusi), a 33 year old geek and conrunner from Finland. I love scifi and fantasy in every form: books, comics, games (tabletop, video games, rpg’s), movies and tv. I am studying in university right now (been doing a lot of other stuff before it) and my major is information studies and interactive media, emphasis on game studies. I live with my boyfriend, who is every bit as geek as I am and we love geeking out together.
I had a huge crush on Wesley when I was a child, Wil was the first person I followed on Twitter and I LOVE Tabletop. My bf got me Takenoko for christmas, as we both fell in love with it after seeing it played on Tabletop. I also bought Ready Player One because of Wil’s blog post and it is become my favourite book. Had a blast geeking out with Ernest while he was in Finland during his book tour.
Hi, Wil! My name is Todd Jenkins and I manage the L.A. Kings sled hockey team for physically disabled athletes. I enjoyed the honesty and openness you put forth in “Just a Geek,” and I always love the breadth and humor of your Twitter posts. Never shut up!
I watched your team last night! That goal at the buzzer was AMAZING! I love that you’re doing this for those players. GO KINGS!
Hey, Wil!
I’m Pat, @bikeknurd on Twitter and Instagram. I’m a 40-something engineer in Fort Worth. I’ve been feeding your blog since I-can’t-remember-when. I’ve been a life-long nerd/geek. Sci-fi, LEGO, bicycles, Linux, whatever. I’ve got 3 kids and recently got divorced and then married to the most awesome geeky woman. We’ve been acquiring/playing board games recently. Tabletop was a big motivator! We got Munchkin for Christmas and are looking forward to playing.
Thanks for contributing to the geeky side of things!
Hi Wil,
My name is Leslie, and I’m a teacher in Norfolk, Virginia. I’ve been into D&D in many of its formats for over fifteen years. I was pulled into World of Warcraft by some of my friends and through that discovered The Guild, which quickly became my favorite internet show. When I saw your first appearance on the show, I was curious to see your connection to online gaming and was delighted to see that you are a serious tabletop gamer too. I’ve followed your blog for a little over a year. It’s been an amazing journey learning about your life, both professional and personal, and I admire your courage in sharing it with the public. It’s great to know that you have been introducing others to the wonderful world of “geekiness” that many of us have enjoyed for most of our lives. Through Tabletop, I’ve met new friends who also love board games and added to my own collection. Ticket to Ride has become one of my new favorites!
Hi Wil. My name is Chrissy. I am @peanut197134 on Twitter. I have been watching you since your Star Trek days. I rediscovered you when I was watching The Guild. I am married. I have 2 adult children and one teenage stepdaughter. I also have 2 dogs who run the house.
Hi Wil. I’m Jack McDermott, and my Twitter handle is the rather unimaginative @Jack_McDermott. As a Stephen King fan, I first discovered you in “Stand By Me” and enjoyed you in STNG as well (and I have to confess that I thought you were cool as hell in “Toy Soldiers” too!). I’m 46, and my wife and I have both become HUGE fans of TableTop, and as a result have acquired most of the games you’ve played on the show, as well as quite a few more. Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing! Thanks!
hi. i’m esther. I’m going through some ups and downs with my life and really feel a connection to some of wil’s posts. my personal page is http://www.writinginarowhouse.com I’m doing my best to juggle some writing with caring for everything else in my life although the juggle makes everything wind up a shadow of what should be and more like a poorly contrived attempt at life. favorite movie (when asked) is harold and maude although i will sit through any story brought before me on the screen. a very amusing but bitingly accurate statement on watching a movie with me is that i scrutinize like I’m a cast member of MST3K.
I’m 41 and thought 14 was to be MY year because my birthday is 1-4. i thought it was all about the numbers syncing up, but now, I’m hoping douglas adams was correct in his assessment that life, the universe and everything is answered with 42. (’14 wasn’t so great.)
OOH>>> the first book i laughed aloud while reading was The Long Dark Tea TIme of the Soul and my favorite scene in there is when Thor locks the golden eagle in the kitchen and it seemed like page after page was written about its flapping.
I aspire to be a wordsmith and have been called a grammar nazi although i have quite a bit to learn. That being said, i prefer using the lowercase i, even when writing a professional email because, as a friend of mine once said, it reminds me how small i really am.
If i can reiterate the sentiment in many of these other introductions, wil, thanks for writing the stuff you do and keep on truckin’!
Hi Wil and WWdN readers. I’m Dan, my twitter account is @Daen00 and I’m from Spain. As you, Wil, I’m a Warhammer 40K collector (I always wonder which was your army as a kid!!). I always been a RPG fan, but I never played because that “is too nerdy” as my friends said. Thanks to the Internet (and you, for sure) I finally get out of those “relationships” and now I enjoy RPG and tabletops with true friends.
Thank you all.
P.S. I also listen to “The happiest days of our lives” at least once a week. It makes me happy.
Hi I’m Mary I live just outside Huntsville, AL and work for the local convention and visitor’s bureau. I am married and have a daughter with special needs. I read a lot of mysteries and science fiction and romance and probably watch way too much tv.. I am overly attached to my kindle but it makes waiting at all the doctor’s appointments my daughter & I seem to have bearable. (I have a chronic form of leukemia and I get to celebrate my 13 year cancerversary in March.) We have 3 rescue kitties who keep us entertained. We adopted 2 from shelters and the other one was found by one of my husband’s co-workers in the parking lot at work and ended up playing on my husband’s desk and that was it we all fell in love with her. I enjoy your cat and dog picture’s and hearing about the animal rescue work that you and Ann do.
Hi! 🙂 I actually don’t use my twitter much, maybe I should start again? @magicmadzik. I’m from Poland, I make stopmotion, I play the hurdy gurdy, and I like tall ships- used to sail one, and my retirement plan is to go back to sea and stay there for as long as my hands can grip the ratlines. I’m also a total 1789 Bounty Mutiny nerd.
I found your blog way back when, and I thought it was just some dude online saying really sensible stuff…it was the ‘get excited and make things’ post. Then I looked at the name and realised you weren’t just some dude, you were Wesley! :D. Then you left a very nice comment on a piece of art I did as a result of ‘getting excited’, and I guess I was sold 🙂 You continue to say sensible and interesting stuff, you always have empathy, you know how to take the mickey out of yourself, and that’s what I like in my feed.
Hello, fellow humans! (And nonhumans. I don’t discriminate.) I’m Kristi (@kristianeleigh on the twitter). I’m 32 years old, in grad school, and still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up. (I’m leaning toward Amy Poehler.) I recently realized how much I love playing games (thanks for TableTop, Wil!) and I also recently realized that none of my friends love playing games, so sometimes I get bossy and demand they play or else I’ll cry crocodile tears, because I am a grown-ass woman. I’m kind of in the “outer circle” of the Geekdom (it’s a real place, trust me, I know things) and so I tend to observe more than interact with geeky things, but I like it here. It’s quiet.
I also write. Or I’m trying to. It’s what I’ve wanted to do with my life since I was 10 years old. So this year I’ll be working on my thesis (!) and hopefully a slew of short stories. Or at least that’s the plan… I tend to lack self-motivation and I also hate setting goals. (I don’t like deadlines or boxes. Unless they’re in the shape of a rocket ship or a dinosaur. Or a dinosaurocket, which is totally a thing.) So… anyone want to be my kind yet stern accountability partner who threatens me with reruns of bad tv shows and bags of kale if I don’t write things on a regular basis? No? That’s cool.
Um… I am extremely introverted (INFP for you Myers-Briggs appreciators), I love action/adventure/sci-fi movies, recently fell in love with the show Supernatural, really want to attend a monster truck rally, and will hopefully be moving to Oregon after grad school. No, I’m not a hipster.
I also feel like I’m really late to the game on this intro thing. I need to pay closer attention.
I also also feel like this was way longer than necessary.
Ok, bye!
Hi.
In James, or Jamey, but most often JameyBear. I am here in the soon to be insanely cold Western New York and I am a husband and a father of three small duck like children things.
I love Fantasy, Sci-Fi and all things Frank Herbert.
I have the Twitter (@JDaLuvHammer) and if you go there you will see mostly working I do on my blog and pictures of my kids.
That’s it.
Stephanie here (@Stephapalooza_ on Twitter). I’m a nursing student and a general knowledge absorber. I don’t really have any hobbies and I don’t really do anything. It’s actually really sad. I want to DO something, I want to CREATE something but I just haven’t found anything that I’m passionate and motivated to put effort towards. I love my wiener dog and I listen to podcasts/watch netflix while I’m not studying. Also, I sometimes write on my blog (rarely) and try to convince myself to exercise periodically. I’m a really funny person (so I’ve been told) and I consider myself to be intelligent and fun, but when I write/type it’s lame. That’s me.
Hi there, I´m Sascha, 38 years old, single parent of a 13 year old son and from Germany. I´m planning to open my own business as a self-employed 3D artist sometime during Q1/2015.
I consider myself to be a huge geek, enjoying Science Fiction and Fantasy TV shows… It started with Star Trek TNG of course!
Being a little younger than you, Wil, your character Wesley kind of always was my favourite. At least until Voyager introduced the Holo Doc (his part in Star Trek – First Contact together with the Borg: priceless!)
As I said earlier, I am a single father… We had our difficulties with my sons mother. I´m not going into detail here for privacy reasons, butit´s important to mention it, as there was this one special show on YouTube that I just discovered, as I wanted to re-watch “The Guild”…. And this show, as you already may have guessed was “TableTop”!
Your show raised our interest in board games, we have a family board game evening every week, which especially is good for my son, who still struggles from time to time because of our situation, although he already lives with me for 7 years now.
And your show helped me reestablishing contact with some friends from back at school… we try to meet on a more or less regular basis (=every 1-2 months) to play boardgames too.
One could say, we owe you a lot, Wil!
Thank you!
Hi Wil, I am a 61 year old Grandma, a Star Trek fan from the very beginning. I am a Navy Veteran and am looking forward to retirement from my civilian job , hopefully very soon! Not alot to tell you, but I enjoy seeing you on the “Big Bang Theory”!
Oh why not – hi all, my name is Tracey – I’m in Halifax, Nova Scotia (in other words, the Atlantic coast of Canada – that’s further east than the East Coast in case you were wondering)
Not much exciting to tell – I spend my leisure time reading (fantasy, manga), gaming (RPG, adventure, strategy types), doing outdoor things, hanging out with and my I-can’t believe she’s-soon-to-be 11-year awesome old rescue mutt Cali and sometimes wishing dragons were real.
Hello Everybody. My name is Simon and I am a marketer in San Antonio Texas. I host a podcast with a few friends over @pdexposures (on twitter) where we discuss Film Photography. You can find me on twitter @lenire. I don’t know what else to say, so I am just gonna say “Ring Ring Ring Banana Phone!”
Hi Wil! I’m Doug. I’m 57 and a fossilized geek. I grew up in the age of Mercury spacecraft and Cold War terror. Currently webmaster for CU-Boulder Alumni Association. Been a happy reader since your earlier blog! Pleased to see you doing so well and going in new directions. TableTop ROCKS.
My name is Heather, and I’m a 41-year-old freelance writer living in the mountains outside Denver with my husband, 5-year-old daughter, Siberian husky, and too many cats. I’ve had my own business for nearly 11 years, and I’ve built a modestly successful career writing for magazines and websites, but I dream about writing books… and plan to make that big leap this year. So I’m excited and utterly terrified. I had a crush on you when I was 12. These days, you crack me up on TBBT, and I enjoy your writing very much. Wishing you a healthy and happy new year!
Hi Wil, I’m Justin from the east coast of England.
I supposed I’m a “jack of all interests, master at none” kind of guy. Which means i like loads of things such as film, tv, music, books, F1, football, badminton, social media, photography and more, but find focus between them varies day-to-day and week-to-week.
As I mentioned social media and this is very much part of that, I will mention that I’m on Twitter (@jaydubya76) which I really enjoy and seems to cater well for my “jack of all interests” state of mind.
I also have a blog on wordpress which I’ve always wanted but which doesn’t seem to cater for my “jack of all interests” in that it just seems very random and unfocussed.

Hi Will, my name is Jennifer. I’m a 37 yr old Mom of 2, and ridiculously lucky stepparent of 1. I teach autistic children, and also have a face painting business for creative release. I adore math, maps, sci-fi, fantasy, movies, books in SO many genres and forms (I actually like both digital and paper books!). We all love board games, and have an overflowing bookcase full. I follow you because I honestly respect you (via the things you share, say, and stand for), and truly enjoy so many of the same things you do. Hope to get to meet you someday, and say thank you in person and keep doing what you’re doing.
