Because I think we all need some Moments of Wonder in our lives.

Over on my Tumblr thingy, someone asked me if I have ever met any of the original Star Trek cast. This is my answer.
For the first time in almost 30 years, when the TNG cast was recognized and celebrated, I was finally included.
In TNG's first ... we will generously say "uneven" season, Q gives Riker his powers, with ... unexpected ... consequences. He goes on this "wish granting" spree in the fourth act, which includes a moment with Wesley that's memorable for maybe not the reasons the writers intended.
A couple of weird tales from my weird life.
Nice! I enjoyed her investigation of Time. 🙂
The present goes right through my middle bits… I am dying!!! These are priceless! Great find Wil!
Thankvyou, Wil!
Thank you very much, I meant!!
Anybody want a peanut?
There is a moment I won’t ever get back. Or will I? hmmmmm
That was awesome a true treasure trove of information and humor. So much fun to watch!! Good call Wil.
You had me going, there. 😉
Sorry, I didn’t have the thyme to watch it.
I’m… …impressed. I’m kinda unsure why, but I am very much impressed.
Wil! If you read the comments, I am SERIOUSLY digging your blog output. It is a bright spot in my day. I seriously mean that.
Sometimes you need 5 minutes of serendipity in the middle of the day and you’re providing some of it. THANK YOU.
Moments of wonder is a great segment on Charlie Brooker’s Wipe series. If you haven’t seen the full show before you should totally check it out. Also, the 2016 wipe moments of wonder is a thing of beauty.
For anyone interested there are also 2 moments of wonder specials: Cunk on Chrismas and Cunk on Shakespeare!
seconding this. catch the segment in the 2016 wipe video. the interview is so good, and the guest… must be one of the inspirations for the series. it’s the person she reminds me of the most.
It was so serious I almost thought it was serious for a moment . . . in time, which is a line.
XD I thought this was serious for a while (I watch WAY too many documentaries on astrophysics, relativity, spacetime …). Brought a smile to my face first thing in the morning while having my coffee. Thanks, Wil.
That happened to me too! It has the exact pace and rhythm of a BBC science documentary and I didn’t know she was doing a character until the oddness of what she was saying started to come through. It was pre-coffee so I couldn’t process it very well.
Glad you found Philomena Cunk. She has been a staple in Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe (and the year end special) for several years now. What I’m most expressed with are the experts she’s interviewing. I am guessing a lot of takes are involved in the production of the interviews but they are marvellous. I suggest you seek out the “Cunk on Christmas” special.
I love Ms Cunk, although I do worry that 5 or so years from now this is exactly what will pass for real documentarys, much like most mainstream news looks like Brass Eye (another splendid UK show) these days
The 2 moments of Wonder i watched had me giggling at work. Thanks for the upper before I go into my boring wasted of time meeting 😀
wtf was that? Could have been interesting but she was trying way too hard to be funny and witty and that took away from it.
“All the clocks in the world are set from here, which… must take ages.” Ahahaha I love it!
Also now that I know that quartz movement is called that because it’s literally the movement of quartz crystal and not branding, I feel like a ditz.
mmm
I think I have found my soul mate. She is awesome!
Hahahaha… Never heard of ‘Moments of Wonder’ It took me a few moments to realize it was comedy. At first I was like: “Dammit, what’s happening to educational programming? This is worse than the History Channel!
You’d like “Best in Show” if you like parody. Eugene Levy goes into professional Dog Showing because he has two left feet which makes it easy for him to walk in a circle… An interview with Christopher Guest on his tour bus comparing bloodhounds to Nasa Spacecraft. Laughing so hard in some parts that it was hard to breathe…
Ironically, I only just had the time to watch this fascinating and educational show that proves that we know so much about what little we know about time and her middle bits.
“Time existed before time began.” When she said that time wasn’t a circle I was so hoping she was going to say its more of a wibbly wobbly line.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This little nugget of YouTube-ishness has made my day so much better! Still … what is clocks? The mind boggles. 🙂
Thank you for the “little bits.”
Thanks (I think) Wil – I’m 5 episodes in, and still finding them hilarious.
If you like those, you should take a look at (pardon the pun) “Look Around You” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBaVwwuErmU – the thing is, the BBC used to actually broadcast for schools, exactly like this!
I got some weird looks in the staff lounge as I cracked up in the corner watching this! I will certainly have to look into more stuff with this character.
Anybody know if the experts she interviewed were aware of how silly it was going to be?
