So I do this podcast with my friend, Mikey Neumann, that I want everyone in the world to know about.
It’s called TV Crimes. We watch old TV shows, do a recap of them, and then put them on trial for whatever their crime against humanity was. A couple of my favorites are Silk Stalkings, Baywatch Nights, and Marijuana Ghost Says Don’t Use Drugs.
Our newest episode is Remington Steele.

Will the Rockford Files ever make an appearance?
I was listening to the 90210 one this morning on the treadmill. Sadly, I remember that episode. Loved that factoid you guys dropped that West Beverly High = Sunnydale High, and that Giles lived in the Casa de Walsh. I’ve got Family Ties to go next. I needed a break useful podcasts like Planet Money and Hardcore History π
Oooh, I loved Remington Steele. Can’t wait to hear what ya’ll have to say about it!
Have you ever watched “Moonlighing?”
Listened to this yesterday at work. I was having a bit of a rough day and laughed out loud at the office. Totally pulled me out of my downward spiral. THANK YOU!
Followed by Scarecrow & Mrs. King.
If you guys ever ran out of stuff to watch, you should tackle “The Fall Guy”.
I used to watch Star trek next gen …… not bad to be honest πππ
Red hand gang ….. does anyone remember that ? ππππ seem to remember the intro music was awsome
Love TV crimes! Thanks Wil!
So glad to see a new TC, one of my favorites is the take down of the “Andy Williams Special” which yes, won an Emmy. And the “Murder She Wrote” and “Hart to Hart” episodes have been played over so many times I think my iPod is going to wear out…kidding, I know it’s not vinyl or tape in there. Right?
I named my son after this character! Well, his first name is Remington. His middle name is from Harry Potter (Remus).
Credit where credit is due… you’ve definitely stuck assiduously to the title of the show. Those shows truly are TV crimes. And they demand prosecution in your podcast Hague. I’m six or seven episodes behind. Time to catch up!
Moderated again?
Oh. Onnnnnnnne!
Please do Moonlighting. I am all by myself here. Every bloody show of my youth has been remade except Moonlighting (and Remington Steele, and Square Pegs, and Parker Lewis Can’t Lose (which was its own take on Ferris Bueller)). #whynotmoonlighting
Okay Wil. I’ve bookmarked it to listen to when I am knitting and painting. Like artsy painting. Not wall painting. Will Wil inspire me? I hope so…:)
Mikey’s book ending with the forty dollar hold music has become masterful. So glad a new episode came out.
I don’t think anyone could manage to remake Moonlighting in a way that everyone wouldn’t hate. I hope nobody tries. For the first few years until Maddie and David were separated on the show all the time (not the curse of them having sex, look it up), it was pretty golden.
Anyway…the only thing I remember of this episode was Steele playing Mexican, so I have no arguments there. But overall, this sounds like it was a pretty bad episode and I generally remember the show being better than that. No arguments on ass slapping and whatnot.
Also, for the record: Steele was not an actor himbo hired to play the role, he was a con artist in the vicinity who figured out what shenanigans Laura was up to and ah, publicly forced himself into the game by suddenly coming out as “Steele” at a banquet. (Not that Wil would have known that in season 4.) Why someone would do that, I can’t say, other than I guess it amused him and Laura was hot, or whatever. He was actually pretty competent in crime solving because of his criminal experience, though he’d also throw in his movie knowledge pretty frequently. Kind of the movie equivalent of Miss Marple in that sense. So them being partners after about the first season did work out. But yeah, rescuing happened. It was the 80’s. It was actually better than one would expect overall in the 80’s.
Cagney and Lacey comes to mind…oh, and I just watched Sharknado 2…lo and behold who gets their head chomped off in the first few minutes. lol…I never realized it was you!
Remington Steele was one of my favorites. I remember watching this episode when originally aired. Maybe I shouldn’t admit that. That season was slightly uneven. Except Doris Roberts, she was perfection. Good thing you have that $40 hold music. You really needed it for this one.
I want to thank you for championing the cause for harassed and belittled women everywhere. Your closing argument brought me to tears. Of course, those might have been leftover from laughing at the earlier shenanigans. I don’t even care if I have to wait another three months for the next episode. Totally worth it. So much awesome. π

Is that forty dollar hold music per use or a one time purchase deal? Just curious if you are incredibly rich or ack,.. using a quote my brother-in-law used a lot “Getting my money’s worth” ? He used that phrase ALL the time. Cheapskate bastard. OOps off on a tangent.
Not that I think you are a cheapskate. Maybe its used like a time out, go stand in that corner?
GAH! I have the same problem with Remington Steele that I had with Ghostbusters 2016: the trope that female frustration with being treated like they’re “less” is somehow hilarious. “Look! People are treating a woman like she’s an idiot and the man standing next to her, who is obviously not as good or as smart as she is, is getting lots of praise and respect! OMG, MISOGYNY IS SO FUNNY!”
Except it wasn’t ever funny, unless you were a sexist asshole who really just wanted to see someone put an uppity woman in her place. Even if it passed (barely) as snarky, supposedly pro-female commentary back in the 80s on Remington Steele, why is this elderly trope still in use today?
Also: pretty sure I read a tell-all biography where the people who wrote and directed Moonlighting admitted they were constantly high on cocaine during the run of that show, which explains that show’s snappy banter and inability to end an episode coherently. I think the writers/show runners on Remington Steele must have been on barbiturates, everything on that show seems to happen in slow motion, from the opening credits on. And now that I think of it, the original opening from season 1, where a Laura Holt voice-over explains how she came up with Remington Steele (and how a con man grabbed the name) is much better than the third-season opening credits.
