50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

seven days

  • blog

It feels simultaneously like a lifetime and like a blink since I woke up to the sound of my wife writhing in pain, setting off the worst three days of the nearly fifteen thousand I’ve experienced so far. Seven days ago, at this exact moment, I was sitting in the ER with Anne, wondering what the hell was going on with her. Little did we know that she was about to get a misdiagnosis that would cost her an organ.

I keep catching myself holding my breath, worrying about her, even though I don’t need to worry like I did. Anne is recovering. She’s able to walk — albeit very slowly — with me when I take one of our dogs around the block. She’s still tired a lot of the time, and we’re going to see if the OB/GYN who did her surgery can help us get to the bottom of that. Maybe it’s just post-surgical fatigue (which is my Thompson Twins cover band) or maybe it’s something more, but it’s one of the things that makes me worry a little bit.

But we’re getting back to something like boring and normal, and I’ve never been as content to be bored as I am right now.

I’ve been recording an audiobook during the days this week, so I also feel fatigued, but it’s the kind of fatigue that feels earned, rather than imposed. It’s a lot of different characters, and it’s a lot of words, but it’s really fun, escapist fiction. I’m enjoying the process more than I thought I’d be able to, and I am on a pace to finish Monday. I can’t say anything else about it, but you’re welcome to speculate, if that’s amusing for you.

I know what you are recording and can’t wait to get it on audible! Lisa LIndo is a FB friend. Glad to you both are doing better. I’ve had those “worst” days with my family. You’re not alone. And the fact that you talk about is going to help you heal faster. Take care!

Knowing the title of something, or the name, and knowing what it is about are two very different things. 😉

I’m just reading these entries, having seen your Goodreads feed. I cannot express how grateful I am that you have more time together. My cousin lost his wife very suddenly and without any warning in February and the grief I’ve witnessed since then is distressing. So so glad for that doctor that found what was wrong.

You poor kids!!! How very frightening! I hope that Anne feels better and better everyday. Sending Healing Angels. Relax and rest up! ❤❤

Your recent trauma and emotive triumph is truly inspiring. I’ve been living in dread of an upcoming surgery, and you have given me hope. I hope this comment finds Anne recovering swiftly with her devoted husband at her side, speeding the process along.

    Wow, that’s awful!
All the best to your wife. It’s obvious you love her dearly.

Holy crap, dude, I just caught up on what happened with Anne. And I’m angry as hell. Anne is now the FOURTH woman that I’ve heard this kind of story about — namely, woman goes to ER in excruciating abdominal pain, male docs misdiagnose as kidney stones, or dismiss the level of pain and leave woman untreated, then later a FEMALE doc comes by and diagnoses patient with ovarian torsion or ovarian cyst rupture. No kidding, this is the fourth fucking time I’ve heard this story. I’m so, so sorry Anne (and your whole family) had to go through this nightmare. Wishing Anne a speedy recovery and you some more quality sleep!!!!!

Glad things are going well. Really have enjoyed your audiobooks, would be nice if it was a new story from Ernie Cline but even if it isn’t I’m sure it will be excellent.

My thoughts go out to you, our thoughts go out to you. Sincerely hoping Anne heals quickly and has a fully recovery. Yours and her struggle is truly affecting and it’s more helpful than you know that you’re both sharing this. Please continue posting any more updates you can, and try to enjoy the boredom as best you can. These things take time and require rest.

Regarding your audiobook recording, though, we’re obviously really curious about it. There’s so much to speculate about, really… Like… Hmmm… did you write it? Probably not, I think we would have heard about that by now. You said it was escapist fiction, so maybe it’s sci-fi or fantasy… Maybe horror? It’s horror, isn’t it? Anyways, I’ll stop guessing. Would love to hear more about it, though!

It is so lovely to meet you. Lacey from Bigandpinkytoes turned me on to your blog. Good to know that your wife Anne is doing ok.
You have a lovely style of writing, and I appreciate the tiredness that comes from a project that moves you.
    Sending you both blessings,
    Debbie

Will, I am so glad for you and your wife especially in regards to her recovery. My 16 year old daughter had an ovarian cyst that hemorrhaged into her ovary. It was misdiagnosed by the doctor, and they told her to go home and contact them in 90 days. If my wife had not pushed the issue (and a great doctor she dealt with did the same) her ovary would have burst and I would be…. I am thinking it is no use in speculating- other that to say I am very grateful for such a wonderful wife who knows how to press the right buttons on people to make sure something is done right, grateful that my daughter has recovered and is still with us, and grateful – period. My sympathy and empathy to you both, for what you have went through as the husband, and my best wishes to you and your wonderful wife.
