Some pictures from today’s big old walk at the beach

  • blog

“Do you you have to do anything on Monday?” Anne asked me.

I checked my calendar. “No, I turned in the draft of my Star Wars story, and I don’t think I’ll get notes on it until after the Fourth. Why?”

“Well, we’ve been so busy, we haven’t had much time to do anything together. I thought maybe we could go down to the beach, and take a big old walk together.”

“I love that. Let’s do that.”

So we went down to the beach today, and walked almost eight miles, had lunch, and got to spend a whole day together without anyone or anything getting in our way. It was really wonderful, especially considering that a month ago, we were in the emergency room together.

Photographers tell you to put stuff in the foreground to give your pictures depth. Okay, photographers. You’re the experts.
The beach was full of people, but by framing them out, I made it look like the beach was deserted.
That’s the Hermosa Beach Pier in the distance. Again, I made it look like there was a zombie apocalypse, leaving the beach basically empty.
The Strand was full of people … but my clever framing tricks could fool the foolingest fool on the foolingest day of my life, with an electrified fooling machine.
Looking back at the Manhattan Beach pier, before we got in the car and headed home. I’ve been on that pier when waves were hitting the bottom of it.

‘lil’ baby UK lurker here,.. Found your blog afew weeks ago. I’m so glad you and the missus have had such a lush day together, and that Anne is doing so much better. Sometimes the sluggishness from a GA can last afew weeks. Keep looking after each other, and generally being awesome human beings 😀😍 Very jealous of the beach of course!! 🍸

The cleverest of clever framing techniques have fooled me into believing that this is the most deserted beach on the face of the planet! Congratulations on finding a most delightful bit of paradise to spend some time with Anne! 😉

I really am glad you two have gotten the chance to spend some quality time together given the craziness over the past month or so. I feel like a nice walk on the beach was well deserved. 🙂

P.S. I totally owe you pictures of stuff…possibly in email format…Life is weird!

Oh. Well, I sure was fooled. Still, I’m glad you and Anne had such a lovely day!

Really happy that you had today to just Do You. I’ve been blessed with a couple of days of being busy on set, after a long period of stuck at home. So I’m getting to just Do Me, too. It’s nice when we get what we really want, or at least what we really need, huh?

Love the framing Wil. Thanks for sharing beautiful pictures from your walk. You deserve so much happiness. Life has a way of getting crazy and time seems to fly. Grab every moment for yourselves. Don’t leave yourself looking back with regrets.

I love this beach. We will definitely visit it when we come for vacation this October. I read so many horror stories from the traffic in LA so I’m curious how long did it take you to drive from Pasadena down to the beach and at what time of the day did you drive? Our hotel when we are on vacation will be in Hollywood which is near Pasadena (at least on the map) so this should be a good indicator for us.

It all depends on the traffic. It can take you as little as 40 minutes, or as much as 2 hours. Just check the traffic app of your choice to plan your drive.

Thank you so much for your answer. I jut saw a video from a guy called Justin Scarred and he said something about “the whole day” which made me think of 6+ hours. So 40 min – 2 hours is not so bad as I thought :). Really looking forward to our vacation in October. We do a road trip down from SFO to LA and then stay a few days in LA to visit the sights and some theme parks. I also hope Anne is doing well and feeling much better now.

The first time I ever left the UK was in 1999 when, at the age of 36, I flew with my new husband to LA, the day after our wedding. We were going to stay with a couple I’d met online, who lived in Redondo Beach. Seeing your pictures referring to Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach has brought back so many happy memories of that idyllic trip – thank you, Wil, and much love to you and Anne; I’m so glad she’s better. x

Spudnuts was born in Manhattan Beach.

This weekend I’m going to a Chinese beach.

    Now you’re up to date.

I’m so glad to hear that you and Anne had such a nice day together, especially after everything that’s gone on recently. I missed you at Awesome Con, but I was able to see your “Resign Motherfucker” hat as I was waiting in line for your friend Felicia Day.

This is beautiful, Wil. Glad that you and your wife had such connection time with each other, especially after your hospital visit.
I live in LA & am a runner – this looked a bit like the vistas between Venice and Marina del Rey. Blessings! Debbie

What a beautiful day to take a walk on the beach! And you framed to look like no one was there. Basically, you “Chris-Christie’d” your photos! Like Photoshop, but fatter.

I’m so glad your family’s merry-go-round took a pause and gave you both a very special day to just be and reconnect. Reading your latest blog post made me think of it. A friend recommended this book to me and I’d like to share it with you. “Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation” by Parker J. Palmer.
Also, just finished listening to “Ready Player One”. You did an amazing job. How “meta” to hear you reference yourself while reading.
