I recorded this episode of the Katee Sackhoff Podcast a couple of weeks ago. It’s when I realized I needed to spend some money on a camera and some lights, so I could present myself in my — literal — best light.
I mean… look at the difference between us:

Okay! Lesson learned! All future on-camera podcast appearances will look a little less … uh … 320×260.
I had such a wonderful time talking with Katee, this could easily have gone on another hour. It was such a privilege to spend this time with her. Here’s an embed from YouTube:
Very much looking forward to having breakfast with Katee. Seth McFarlane is not invited, but will be honored while we wait for our food1.
Podcast news!
Feedback, reviews, comments and emails all tell me that the audience for It’s Storytime with Wil Wheaton absolutely loves it. I am so honored and so grateful to know that it’s landing on listeners the way I hoped it would.
This first block of episodes was a learning experience for me. I had some stumbles that I’ll tell you about someday, but they weren’t insurmountable and I learned from those mistakes. I leveled up my skills as a narrator and I hear it in the work. I know how to do this, now, and I just have to figure out how to make it cost-neutral (with the expectation that it will eventually find sponsors and revenue sources that allow me to convert it to something I do every week as a job.) I have a meeting coming up with my business team to discuss all of that. As I said in my last post, my gut is pessimistic, but it does that to protect me from disappointment and I know that. My team is positive and enthusiastic about this meeting, fully expecting that we’re going to keep doing this. So I’m doing my best to trust that they have more experience than my gut in this regard, and I’m cautiously optimistic.

I’m loving your podcast so far. If it helps to offer a higher tier Patreon I know I’d love to make sure this project lasts!! I can’t be the only one. It’s wonderful so far. Good job Wil!!!
I don’t know if this is feasible (and I recognize it would be a huge amount of work), but I remember back in the day, when they were trying to become a regular, ongoing podcast, 99% Invisible did a kickstarter for (I think) their second or third season. They were up front about how many episodes it would be produced for $X and what the money would be paying for (how many people they needed to hire to do recording/editing/reporting/art/music/etc). I think that once they hit their first goal, one of their stretch goals was, “If we can get to $X+$YY, we’ll be able to offer health insurance to the editor we’re hiring.” I think giving people a concrete idea of what they were paying for was helpful, and having a sort of start date and end date. After a few years they had built up an audience and had enough money from other sources that they didn’t need to rely on periodic kickstarters. I just thought I’d toss that out there as an idea for making season 2 happen.
Love the blog – get non-glare glass in your glasses! Otherwise u are gold!
Just wanted to give you a bit of constructive criticism. I have bad hearing loss and although I use Airpods when I listen to your podcast, I find that very often I cannot understand the last two or three words in sentences because the volume of your voice drops off. If I turn the volume up then the rest of it is too loud. Something to consider to make an improvement. Otherwise, loving the podcast!
Well if I had more money I’d subscribe to the book hound level again. LOVED the proof concept (aka season 1). I’ve told all my book lovers about your podcast in hopes of guiding people there. Is there anything else we can do to help out the cause?
You’re so kind. I deeply appreciate your support. The best thing anyone can do to help me grow the audience is telling your friends about it. Rating and reviewing is a big help, too.
I’m loving your podcast, but I do have a constructive criticism. I have hearing problems and I have noticed your voice drops off at the end of a sentence. Sometimes I have to go back to understand the last 2 or 3 words. Other than that, I think you are doing a great job!
You are not the first person to mention this to me. I became aware of it at some point during the season, so it shouldn’t happen in future recordings. Thanks for listening!
Hey Wil Im a teenager and love your book still just a geek and just wanted to say that you are my favourite actor and writer and your work in stand by me changed the way my brain works (seriously man that movie does something to you) so keep up the great work with your podcast aswell and I am looking into going to Germany for comic con in the winter. best of wishes in the future!
