And I have, again, fallen into a trap where I only post long essays to my blog that take days or longer to write. Oh, so many drafts that really go nowhere, because I wasn’t writing to tell a story, I was writing to have something to post. And it was shit, all of it.
That’s okay. Sometimes we have to remember why we do this, and more importantly, why we don’t do it, what stops us, and why. I have some idea, and I think I’m just going to go ahead and post a thing in a place that isn’t controlled by an evil algorithm.
So today, I just wanted to share a couple things that I’m excited about. I hope you’ll get excited about them, too.
This Saturday is the triumphant return of Wil WheatCon with Wil Wheaton 2: 2Wheat 2Con. I had such a wonderful time when we did this a few months ago. Requests to do it again started pouring in before we were even finished, and I’m just so excited to bring it back. If this one hits like the first one does, I’m going to be so happy.
I’ve been working on It’s Storytime a LOT, reviewing submissions and interviewing authors, as well as narrating the stories. We have some plans in place to secure the future of the show! I’m still not making anything from it (the creator is always the only one who doesn’t get paid), and I could not care less. I love that I’m doing good work that is meaningful to a large and growing audience who trust me with their time and attention, especially in the midst of the horrors.
A new episode dropped today, The Glass City, by AnaMaria Curtis. It’s a story about loneliness that was extremely relatable. It is in all the usual places. You can start here if you want.
Tomorrow, I’m doing a Reddit AMA to promote the upcoming Stand By Me Live shows in Louisville and Dayton, Wil WheatCon2: 2Wheat 2Con, It’s Storytime, Conludo, and Rampart. We always stay focused on Rampart.

On blogging: posting scarcely seems to amplify the feeling of needing make every post Important. It seems like most bloggers to stick to it have “series” where they can start writing a post for an assigned slot, then add stuff to it. That might be why all the steadiest blogs are daily link type blogs since anything fits the format.

(Not counting one of the years I was at SDCC and there was an impromptu signing not listed in the booklet so I missed everyone, haha)

Technical glitch with “It’s Storytime”? The past few episodes that I’ve listened to on Spotify, your self-recorded Quince ads have been substantially quieter than the other ads and the story itself. Like, difficult-to-hear-in-the-car quieter. Thought you should know. I really enjoy the stories!
Hey, Wil, just watched the Dropping Names episode you were in. Here is a slightly amusing story. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and am roughly the same age as you. When I was a kid my mother saw an ad in the newspaper for an open casting call for a movie. I barely remember this but my mother drove me to this big soundstage where I sat at a table with some other kids. We were all interviewed, asked to read something and then were shuffled off in about ten minutes. I did not get the part but you did. That movie was The Buddy System. Haha.

Sitting on a random Thursday night listening to Wil, Jonathan and Brent just hanging out as friends and shooting the breeze yet somehow being amazingly funny, erudite, kind, empathetic, and snarky (but in a good way). Giving each other the sort of crap only people who have known each other forever, through good times and bad, can be with each other. Then Wil tells us about how LaVar Burton was so supportive to him during a bad day on set years ago, seeing through the teenage bluster to the young man who just needed a kind, mentoring word, and I literally teared up as so many emotions raced through my heart. A glimmer reminding us of how a seemingly small moment of care can make such a longstanding difference in someone else’s life.
