Here are some recent radio appearances of mine, that you can tune into for free:
- TheFandom.com is just under two hours long. It’s the interview I did on Monday. Chase and I talk about the history of my blog, my journey from actor to writer and (almost) back.
- Don’t have that much time? How about ten minutes? You can hear me talk with David Lawrence, on his Personal Netcast Podcast from last week. We talk about my plans for a podcast, and I say “goatfucker” a few times. This audio is quite Not Safe For Work, as I was in full-on potty mouth mode. So if that thing bothers you, don’t listen. If you do listen, don’t lecture me about it. In fact, don’t lecture me about it at all.
- Finally, there’s The l a z l o w show on K*ROCK in NYC. Lazlow is a friend of mine, and the genius behind the soundtrack for GTA: Vice City, as well as all the radio content in all the GTA games (he directed me as Richard Burns in San Andreas.) We talked about my books, poker, and some other stuff. It’s pretty funny, if I recall correctly, and it’s about 17 minutes.
I’m interested to know what WWdN readers think about my interview with Chase, and also what you think about my podcast idea — is it worth my time? All the linked files here are in .mp3 format.
Ranch!!!…….ranch?
Man I love that commercial. Oh, anyway…..dude anything you do is worth a read/listen to your fans. You have a tangible yet evasive likeable-ness that your minions are drawn to.
Think of yourself as like…..Ron Howard. Boyish, likeable….but also famous. So everyone is interested in what he does and says (to some degree or another).
So podcast away. Heck, with the advent of the Nano, I’ll even tune in. I know that thrills you.
Best Regards,
Fats
I live on a farm and we have goats. And goatfucking? I just don’t know. I just don’t see it happening.
Hey dude,
You should definetely podcast. it will give people an “inside” view of your life even though you do pics and write the blogs. But speaking is much more personal and it would mean something to all of your readers and fans. Including me because i heard all of your audblogs (if thats even what a podcast is) I thought they were awesome especially SW vs. ST and Leaving CSI. Keep doing what your doing.

So this will be a podcast just playing indie music you like? It sounds great provided I like the same music. But you should totally do it if you want to.
Totally do a podcast!! Your Audioblog kicked ass.
I downloaded every Audio post on your site and listen to them on my way to work every day.
Doooo iiiitttt *shakes fist*
I listened to the David Lawrence interview. The thing about podcasts is, now that the novelty is wearing off, content is becoming much more important. It used to be enough to throw a podcast up and say a bunch of stuff that you’d normally blog or possible start to blog and then edit. Now, like blogs, a podcast really needs to say something unique to gain an audience(Although with your built in blog audience, you will have no trouble). Just make it awesome if you do it. Do something no one else is doing.
Of course, I’ll listen even if it just ends up being goatfucking jokes.

I didn’t manage to listen to the whole Chase interview (yet), but I loved the bit I did hear! Even though I’d read the story of why you quit TNG on this site, I was almost in tears as you were telling Chase the story. Powerful stuff π
I admit, I’m not into podcasting – but if you did one, I would definately listen.
I loved the interview with Chase. I came in on the last hour or so. As usual, you were smart, witty, and charming. π

Oh! I should also share my pirate-ness.
Here I am, dressed as a pirate for DragonCon 2005 in Atlanta: click here for it – it’s large

Do the podcast – regardless of what you decide to do for content. I would prefer life stories and not music, but whatever you do, my wife (who has a crush on you) and I will listen!

Podcasting is definitely the way to go.
Wil,
I know you’ve said you’re going to cut down on your blogging a bit from now on. That’s cool, and we all respect that. A podcast, however, would seem to be less time consuming, and would be more like Uncle Willie of old. π With a podcast, you could just rant on about the Axis of Evil (Bush & Co.), some random event at a street intersection, or your thoughts on poker, parenthood, pets, playing games, pretty much anything you like. Except alliteration. I hate alliteration.
Wil, I’d be honored (and honoured) to have you on my list of podcasts.
wil, your interview was awesome (yes, i listened for all 2 hours, even pausing it to vacuum). it really reminded me of the wit, humor, and overall excellence just a geek had in it. i really loved hearing all about what’s going on and your thoughts about what you’re doing. and yes, if you podcasted (is that right?) i’d so download it. as long as it were free. don’t charge for it like some other people do. of course, that’s just my opinion.
Jesus, that interview was 2 hours long? Holy crap it felt like about 20 minutes. And it totally helped my very slooooooooow day at work.
I really loved the interview with Chase. You kept apologizing for talking so long, but that was the best part!
That’s the first time I’ve listened to you – until now I’ve just been reading. I think I’ll have to listen to the audiobook of Just a Geek now.
Very good things from Chase interview.
1. “Professional Date Rapist!” LOL
2. Looking at the screen while talking like they can hear you. LOL
3. Luckily enough, you apparently survived the traffic without a radio, how did you do it. I think the traffic down in New England is bad but I couldn’t even imagine West Coast. What did you do?

Wil,
I agree that the podcast thing should remain a hobby, like all things, like this blog, but that being said… YES, MAN, ABSOLUTELY! … how awesome would it be to have a podcast now and then to go with your blog… same great taste as an audioblog, but at half the calories… and dont think that we’re not counting carbs here. Because we are. all of us. Even that guy over there. Yeah, that’s right, you over there in the corner… yeah, I’m talking to you – no don’t turn around, there’s nobody behind you.
Anyway, go for it Wil – to infinity and beyond!
Wil,
You should be listening to Opie and Anthony on XM Satellite radio. Lazlow was on there Tuesday.
David Lawrence, on his Personal Netcast Podcast
1. Awesome talking, very funny. Free Speaking
2. *-fucking was crazy. Goat, Trophy, Pig. LOL
3. Did you say iRiver or iRipper because im not totally up on the Mac technology as of late.

Lazlow Show
1. Awesomeness
2. (This is not from the show but I forgot to mention it before) I think it is really amazing and phenomional (I didn’t look that up so excuse the spelling) that you raised $102,000 for Red Cross. The amount of people you helped is unbelieveable and it just came from an idea. It is great. Everything helps and at my school Davies Career and Tech HS (www.daviestech.org) raised around $1,200 for Red Cross and I contributed into that and it is just a great feeling to know that somewhere your generosity is going to help someone who only has the clothes on their back. It is great. It truly is. Inspiration at its best.

Wil,
I have to know. WHAT did you fold in the WCOOP Main Event????? I’m guessing AKo? I think you had to make the call there. Really with any two cards at that point. I noticed the guy was taking a loooong time to decide. I wonder if he was thinking that he didn’t want a call, but thought he might be able to push you off a hand? Or if he was pretending to deliberate, and really had a monster?
I kept yelling at my monitor: “CALL, CALL, CALL” haha!
Joe
Hey Wil,
We are about the same age, scary huh? >=) Out of curiosity I’ve been reading up on you via this website and you are kinda sounding half-punk-ass-cool and half OLD MAN. And here ya go, wanting to spend more time sitting around and doing audio blogs for blobs(sorry guys!) who have time to sit around and listen. It’s not to say I don’t think you have neat things to say, it’s just I think you’ve got EVEN BETTER things to do in your life! You are not an old man, you shouldn’t be thinking of ways to be a convalescent! DUDE???
Hmm… I think I read you have mono, or had it. But seriously even so, bust out and get some air. Start small if you have to. Life should be large, not a series of incidents to share with Dilberts. Rise up, where’s the REAL WIL WHEATON?
I only prod on this because you sounded like you want to do more in your life as mentioned on your Chase interview. For a guy your age, and with the world we know, you could be doing A LOT more than sitting around contemplating your navel! =D
Yes, this is from a female geek who plays video games and knows how to hack in Linux. But I also know how not to be a putz… I do get out and do amateur yacht racing, some paragliding, horsemanship/riding, hiking, urban or rural adventuring.. BESIDES my Disneyland Annual Pass. π btw: a group of us going to Club33 in late October, if you and your wife would like to come, drop a note. Mainly working geek folks like architects and/or I.T. for entertainment industry–who appreciate Dilbertness now and then.
So anyway, I hope you take the “rise and shine” course and not sit around and podcast for a few people unless it only means a few minutes every few weeks or something. Take care of #1, and look out for your family who probably love ya as much as possible for whatever you do. WILL THE REAL WIL WHEATON STEP FORWARD??? =D
Sarah/HHB
ps. my boyfriend and I are going to be in Pasedena mid October so he can go play architect on his friend’s(he works for Fox TV, his wife a chef who has worked for John Wells!!) home. LAST time I went we did Bucca di Beppo(?) and it was waaaaay too much heavy food. Any suggestions for a great restaurant in the area? help??? =) xsi at cg-i dot com
OOps… sorry about the added spaces. The preview showed none, so I added break tags! =o

Hell yeah Wil do a podcast! Anyone that can use the word goatfucker in a sentence is fully qualified to podcast.
Definitely do the podcast. That would rule. Better put it on a good server too. Nobody likes melted server.
Dude. I can hear my nano calling your name. Even if you only end up doing it once or twice, it would definitely be worth it. Seriously.
Just had to let you know, because you asked, that the interview with Chase was awesome and it could have been longer. *LoL* There are few things more entertaining than hearing you talk about yourself. That thing about Paris really pissed me off, but, hey, it’s in the past now, so what can you do? Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to read your books!

If you decide to start podcasting (cool!), use the Radio-Free Burrito name.
Unless you come up with a totally killer name.
And.. If after a while, the podcast starts to feel like it is sucking, kill it.
Will,
First off let me say, liked the interview with Chase. I didnt think I would. You made me want to listen and read more about you and stuff by you.
Your blog is more fun to read and parade thru, I plan to check back.

Well, Wil, a podcast sounds like a great idea. If you get it going, shoot me your promo and I will definately play in on Reaching for Lucidity. Hell, I may even have to add you to the RfL Royal Court!
Anything that I can do to help, just buzz me over at RfL headquarters! All of my contact detail is on the site.
Hell, I will start to tease the fact on the show tomorrow, if you are serious.
Take it easy Bro!
World Series of Uno! Good job rolling with that one.
Hey,
Just a quick thought. I have read with a bit of sadness lately that you are not getting as much fulfillment lately out of your blog as you used to. It happens to the best of bloggers. With all that happens in life you get burned out from sharing your problems with complete strangers, or you just don’t think your blog has a point anymore… anyway what I am trying to say is that podcasting is a pretty timeconsuming and ultimately more personal thing to do than even blogging. You have to really ask yourself if this is something you really want to put your creative force into… as much as I am a fan of your blog and such, I think you really need to ask yourself if you want it to continue, let alone adding new features (especially ones that can really suck your lifeforce).
Please dont take me for being a partypooper, but I reallyam a fan and hate to see yourself burn out.
I have to admit that I don’t really know the implications of podcasts, because I will never own an iPod. If podcasts can be accessed for people without iPods, go for it. Otherwise, I recommend doing something less proprietary.
Apple is no better than Micro$oft, only different. Apple software and hardware is more proprietary and closed than Micro$oft, and you pay much more for equivalent technology.
Don’t get me wrong – Micro$oft is indeed the Evil Empire…
Anyone have a link to a mirror of the David Lawrence podcast? I’m getting a file not found message when I try to dl it.
thanks,
I listened to the whole Chase interview (and a few of her other ones.. she’s a very good interviewer). It was awesome! Gonna get the JAG audiobook now (well.. not *now* but soon).
