I spent much of today going through last night’s post comments, and making sure that people I’d inadvertently blocked on Twitter were unblocked.
But, uh, the thing is … after going through about 250 links, I’d only actually blocked three of them. Everyone else was “just in case” or something like that. I thought, gee, maybe I didn’t make the instructions for finding out if you’d been blocked clear enough.
But the other thing is, I ain’t even mad. Because I did that today, I saw a couple hundred real people’s faces, and got a tiny little glimpse into what all of those people have been doing with their lives. It made me feel connected in an unexpected way (it put the “social” in “social media”), and though it was time consuming, it turned out to be a nice way to take a break from doing actual work.
And it gave me an idea: Why don’t you introduce yourself to me and other WWdN readers?
Leave a comment in this post that tells us a little bit about yourself, if you feel comfortable sharing that sort of thing. Don’t post personal stuff that could be too revealing or hurt your privacy, but maybe share your first name, if you’re married, have kids, what sort of work you do, and maybe something that you like.
The idea is that, when you see the actual, real, human person behind a screen name or twitter handle or whatever, it’s a tangible reminder that we are all people on the other end of the connection. We’re people with families and jobs and hobbies and passions and hopes and fears and we all live on the same piece of rock, hurtling through space.
Of course, you don’t have to do this, and I can’t stress enough how important it is that you protect your personal information, but since I enjoyed the social experience of feeling connected to actual humans, maybe you will, too.
Or maybe you won’t. I’m not the boss of you.
im felicity im 23 from new zealand and i really just started getting into tabletop
I’m Pedro, a 33yo Peruvian living in Australia, co owner of a boardgames store and work in IT.
Hi, I’m Peter (39) from Slovakia, I work in IT security, I have a home brewery, I’m currently building a professional brewery, and I love Wil’s books. My favourite moment of 2014 was when I was listening to “The Happiest Days” while brewing an american IPA.
Hi! I am super late to this party but I’ve been a reader for ages so I thought I should introduce myself.
My name is Christina. I am 38 years old, married to my amazing hubby Bob, and a California native. I grew up in San Jose and am an avid Sharks hockey fan. Even though Wil is a Kings fan, I think watching a hockey game with him would be awesome since our smart mouth comments would be in good fun and not mean spirited.
I have one of the best jobs in the world. I pay teachers. Processing payroll may sound boring, but I assure you it is not, and knowing I am paying some of the most important people in our society (in my opinion) makes me furiously happy.
I am a tabletop game nerd and actively host game nights at my house with friends and family. My husband and I are also part of a role playing group that gets together a couple of times a month. Currently we are playing Pathfinder. Bob and I also enjoy video games and spend many hours together on our PS4. It is our quality time together.
I follow both Wil and Anne on Twitter and enjoy their friendly interactions with their friends, family, and fans.
Thanks.
Hey! My name is Rich, and I’m a 46 year old semi-geek living in the best city in PA, Harrisburg! I’m the senior accountant for a digital media company; we’re surfing the wave between print and digital trying to live long enough to move into the next world. I’m a Star Trek afficianado ( that was my intro to the wonderful world of Wil ) who hung around here because I have loved playing games since I was a kid, and this Wil guy writes amazing things. As an inveterate reader since boyhood, I sincerely appreicate an author like this man.
Hey!:)
I am Fabian, I am a teacher in Germany. I am married to a wonderful Turkish woman and we have a wonderful six-year-old son.
He has an extremely high IQ and I can barely keep up with his demand of knowledge…which is little bit funny, because when I was younger I always wanted to be as smart as Wesley Crusher and was dreaming myself aboard the Enterprise and now my son watches (selected) episodes of TNG with me and we talk about space travel:)
In January we finally get our telescope, a microscope is on its way here. We are very excited!:)
And in February I finally become a Linux certified engineer!:)
So much from my side, now “Radio Burrito” is waiting!:)
Hi! I’m Gabriel. I’m 26 and I am from Argentina.
I’m a sports journalist and broadcaster, and I love fútbol (Soccer)
I’m Lori, married mom of one spirited 3 year old, work almost full time for a state gov’t writing waste water discharge permits. I love your blog and although we don’t agree politically all the time (okay, most of the time), I love your perspective! Keep writing and I’ll keep reading.
Love this – I miss the social side of social media! I’m Jai, from Honolulu, Hawaii, paralegal by day, fitness instructor by evening, writer by night.
I really want to shout out my thanks to Wil – I got my bachelor’s degree in writing, and it completely burned me out. It was reading your blog and your beautiful writing that made me want to sit down in front of my computer and start turning out pages again, so thank you! (Or, maybe, curse you for all the late nights in front of a blank page with writer’s block…)
I’m Nicole. I’m in Buffalo, NY, a pediatric anesthesiologist and soon to be 37. I’m married and proud to be raising the next generation of geeks.
I am Roman from Seattle, WA. I am an anime, book, game, and sci geek/nerd. I remember watching Wil on TNG with my GF, and disliking him because my girl kept swooning. I remember finding him again online around 2008, and realising he grew up to be “cool”, and not the pretty boy I always wanted to punch because my girl liked him. Wil is now the guy I want to have a beer with, and talk about the new sci or game blog post I found online.
You have become the person all of us want as our best friend or neighbor. My dream interaction with Wil is not seeing him at a con or interviewing him, it’s going to my local pub seeing Wil and exclaiming “Dude whats up, wanna play some Magic, loser pays for the round”. I love that you (re)started the podcast on my birthday Dec 27.
My name is Chanel. I’m 31, married, no kids. I recently moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma to the Pasadena area because my husband got a new job. So far I’ve been playing lots of WoW, taking care of the house for my husband and our roommates, and pining after my old Tabletop board game group back in Tulsa.
This is the first year I’ve been away from all of my family at the holidays, and it’s been a bit… strange. I’m trying to see the positive, though, and all in all I feel privileged to be able to take a chance like this in my life. At least Wil’s blog hasn’t gone anywhere.
Hey! I’m John from the UK!
In fact, I live in the City of Cardiff where the BBC produces Doctor Who & Sherlock amongst other shows. How about a guest spot for you, Wil?! Would love to show ya around!! So happy the podcast is back. Keep the burrito cooking!
Hey, Wil. I am Rhana, live in the desert of Oregon and married to a fellow geek for almost a quarter of a century.
Hey there Wil,
I’m Matt, and I live on 5 acres in upstate NY with my wife and twin 1 year old boys (obligatory cute baby gallery link: http://owncloud.mattcaron.net/public.php?service=gallery&t=6452f5b7c1939d35fa15de13523c1d46), 7 cats, a dog, a fish, and 9 chickens (for eggs and pets, not to eat. They’re awesomely good at eating all the ticks so we don’t get any on us when in the yard).
I work for an industrial automation and managed switching company, building custom Linux distros for our products (you know, stuff designed to fit in 16MB of storage yet still have gobs of features).
I like board, miniatures (primarily Warmachine, Dystopian Wars and Firestorm Armada these days) and RPGs (generally Savage Worlds based stuff these days, because it’s so GM-easy, and I always end up being the GM).
I’ve been really liking tabletop because the games you generally do hit a good sweet spot for casual games – stuff I can buy for when my kids get older, stuff I can play with non-hardcore gamers now, etc. Plus, it scratches my itch because I don’t get a chance to play as much as I’d like (but I’m getting a decent amount of painting done after the kids go to bed, an hour or so at a time).
My local gaming meta is pretty scant. There are a couple of okay local gaming stores, but not a huge gamer contingent.
I own two GeekChic tables. A 4′ x 8′ Spartan, and is the pioneer of their art deco options (http://www.mattcaron.net/2011/05/30/so-its-been-a-bit/), and a more standard rift set up for Lego (well, Duplo currently).
I also homebrew, and the GeekChic folks also did a keezer collar to match the table (http://www.mattcaron.net/2013/10/12/keezer/).
I blog at http://www.mattcaron.net/blog/. I read a variety of blogs (Flym is great on Android, BTW), but generally profane from any social media. Facebook makes me want to claw out my eyeballs (it’s an engineering disaster, and their design decisions make me want to quit being a programmer), Twitter just generally annoys me (140 character is not a conversation, it’s a sound byte), and the only reason I have a G+ account is because I was running a Realms of Cthulhu game in a hangout using the Roll20 app.
Hi! I’m Andrea! I’m 27, married, currently living in New Mexico working as a geologist. I’ve always been super nerdy about all things rocks and space, but I am somewhat of a neo-nerd when it comes to other geekery like tabletop games, video games, DnD, etc.. (product of non-nerdy parents and friends), of which I have Ready Player One and Ernest Cline to thank for introducing me to such total and complete awesomery. I am about to start my very first DnD campaign in just a few days and I’m fucking stoked! But Ready Player One is also where I learned about Wil Wheaton and became a huge fan of yourself and your work. You seriously did such an amazing job at narrarating that book, audiobook is the only way I can read it. Thanks for being so awesome, Wil, and long live the burrito!
Hi Wil,
My name is Amber (aka Aly) and I am from London ON Canada. I am a self-proclaimed geek of all things. I also suffer from GAD and depression, and have found your posts on the subject really helpful in getting over the bad days. I am currently not working due to the strain that my illness takes on me, but I hope to overcome it! Hopefully you make it to this area (Toronto even!) so perhaps we can meet one day!
I am also watching ST: TNG for the first time and want to pinch your younger versions cheeks. No, that is not creepy.
All the best,
Amber
Hi Wil,
I’m Sarah and I’m 33 from Paisley in Scotland. I’m married, have a son and a cockatiel and have always been a fan but find myself mostly reading your blog because I also have depression and anxiety and it helps to hear from someone else who experiences the same. Plus I’m a geek and love the insights you have! Look forward to reading more from you in 2015, hope you have had a good new year (personally I spent mine in pjs with my family watching tv and playing games, so I’d say it was great!).
This is an awesome idea. I make my home in that lovely locale called Northern California. I’m a scientist and, as of Dec. 3 2014, a lawyer. Currently unemployed (voluntarily) but I know that I’m going to find a legal job in 2015 that will help me make my corner of the world a better place.
I grew up watching TNG. I remember, in high school, running home from school to watch a re-run, always keeping an ear tuned to the garage door opening, so I knew when a parent was coming home. Too often, one of them came home early, forcing me to turn off the show before the end. How tragic. Luckily, my love of SciFi and other nerdy/geeky endeavors has endured and my life is better for it.
Hi there! My name is Ricardo from Miami, Fl. I’m a nurse by trade. I met you briefly at MegaCon in Orlando, about 2 years ago. Always been a fan of your work past and especially present. Anne was also gracious enough to VandalEye my ping pong ball Bob…I’m currently in the hospital after injury my left lower leg badly. Should hopefully be home by the end of next week. I want to wish you and your wonderful family a great 2015, good luck to everything you create.
A bit late to the party, but… hey, I’m Jo.
I’m from Germany and it is approaching 2 am here, but since it is the first day of the new year (or rather after the New Year’s Party) and I have only gotten up around 3pm today, I will probably not get to sleep for a while. Which is why I actually pulled up my computer (which then loaded up this tab I had opened up the other day but completely forgotten about) with the intention to finally finish the first draft of the presentation I have to give in English class on Wednesday.
Which still feels like a weird thing to do, considering that I’m 28 and – up until last summer – used to be long out of school, working a steady (if not /that/ well paying) job as a graphics designer and general PR person. Now, however, I am enrolled at a university, learning to do science. It’s weird, but has proven to be so goddamn interesting that I get a bit angry at myself for not having taken this step sooner. On the other hand, I was probably just not ready for it.
Whelp, time to stop procrastinating and get back to writing about the Three Holy Kings, who maybe were more than three, probably not holy and least likely kings.
Have good night, everyone!
So, any chance you would care to share more of your 3 Kings paper? That sounds absolutely fascinating the way you presented it. Where in Germany do you live? I have a pen pal in Hesse and a cousin in Regensburg.
I’m Brad Anderson, 57, Rapid City SD. Trek fan from age 8, sf fan from even earlier, lifelong radio announcer/newsman. Love the blog, RFB, and the links.
Doug Lindstrom, Plano, Texas, USA, 44 and the father of 4, 2 grown, 2 that are 6 and 3/4’s as they like to tell me. I collect vintage video game consoles and have started accumulating Star Wars titles for each. I am a SQA analyst for a 3PL company to pay the bills and also the co-founder of http://www.hardradio.com. I hate crowds.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Wyatt Draggoo (@phraktyl). I do computer security for a living. I’m a Unix administrator by trade, and a geek through and through (Sonic screwdriver? Shiny! Tea, Earl Grey, hot. I know where my towel is, and Han shot first!); and I am hoping to instill at least some of that geekdom into my two boys. I live in Anaheim, California, where the Disneyland fireworks proclaim that it’s 9:30 Pacific time every evening, but I still call the Pacific Northwest my home. I grew up just a few miles from Autzen Stadium (Go Ducks!) and hope to one day retire back there in a cabin surrounded by acres of natural woods and a fat pipe to the internet.
I enjoy tabletop gaming and role playing, but don’t currently have any groups (if you’re in the area, though, I’d love to play!).
I’m a long time Wil Wheaton fan, starting in the ST:TNG days. I’ve met him a couple of times, both at the Stone brewery. Also, years ago he commented on a pic of some friends and I playing AD&D, when I happened to be wearing a Woot shirt of his.
Hey, I know I’m a little late, but hi! I’m Mike. Originally from New Zealand, I now live in Melbourne, Australia. I work in software testing, working mostly on writing automated tests, so I guess I’m more of a software developer nowadays? I don’t know.
I play ultimate frisbee roughly half the time I’m not working. I play for an elite-level men’s team here in Melbourne and have recently traveled with that team to Italy for the World Ultimate Club Championships.
In terms of games: I play a lot of video games on my PC. I’m into most genres, with my favourite games at the moment being Shadow of Mordor, Rogue Legacy, and the Defense Grid series. I also play an increasing amount of tabletop games, thanks almost entirely to TableTop.
Feel free to get in touch via Twitter. I love to hook up with new friendly folks for anything to do with games.
Shameless plug: a few months ago I started a gaming podcast with a few guys from across Australia. If you’re into that sort of thing, I’d love it if you could check it out: http://www.shouldiplaythisgame.com
Hello! I’m Heidi (22). I’m a finnish citizen, born in Switzerland, who grew up in Sweden and who’s now living in Germany(and who never knows what to answer when people ask where I’m from), where I’m training to be a professional dancer. I was secretary for the board game club in my gymnasium (swedish equivalent of high school), and have nurtured a love for boardgames since. Which makes it quite enjoyable to live in Germany.
I’m Jessica! 29 and currently living in Portland, Oregon. My fiancée and I are getting married in July, and we’re both huge tabletop games fans! We have a weekly game night and often frequent our local games shop to borrow games ($5/3 nights).
Hi all, I’m Heather. Library & records queen, wide-ranging fangirl, pub enthusiast, roller derby & Canucks & Blue Jays fan, incurable reader, Canadian. Sorry boys, I’m engaged.
I’m totally loving reading all these. What a lovely and interesting bunch of people read your blog, Wil! So many posts, but I’m going to keep coming back till I’ve read them all. 🙂
My profile nearly everywhere states:
I am… Living with Asperger’s Syndrome on the Autism spectrum. Wife. Barren Fur Mama. Aunt. Crafter. Vegetarian. Pacifist. Nerd. ☮
I’m PanyaV on Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest.
Oh, and Panya is pronounced PAHN-yuh [pɑː.njə] and rhymes with Tonya.
Hey, I’m Katie, a 21 year old Michigander who will (FINALLY) be graduating from college in April! w00t!
Hi, I’m Alessa! 28 year old German and just starting my 2nd year as a medical doctor, on my way to becoming a GP. I’ve loved books and stories and scifi since I could read. Watched Star Trek since I was a kid and wanted to be Wesley Crusher (or at least his little sister) for quite a while. 🙂
I’m Jesz from NM, divorced and raising teenagers. I follow your blog because you’ve always been great about introducing me to things that become passions: science fiction, homebrew and tabletop!
I’m April, and I’m a 37 year old Texan who plays mostly hurdy gurdy and bowed psaltery at Renaissance Festivals and Gaming Conventions for a living. I’m vegan, I’m a geek, and I love to Get Excited And Make Things whenever possible (though I have a bad case of thSQUIRREL!!! and will frequently have multiple projects going at once.) Wil, your podcasts have entertained me through many cross-country road trips to my various gigs – thank you so much for all you do!
I’m Sophie. I’m 27 and from Arizona. I am a super geek and love playing tabletop games, play video games, read, and go to nerdy events all over my city. I work full time for a community college in my area.
Hi Wil and everyone,
My name is Nathaniel and I’m a Chicago-area designer, maker and journalist. In my day job I’m an interface designer (UX) and then on the side I make stuff. I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford a private workshop here in Chicago that I split with a fellow maker of things. For the most part, I make motorcycles. Yet I also do the occasional nerdy maker project like replica props or turning TARDIS cookie jars into desk lamps.
I do no small amount of writing on the side, with everything from personal musings on my blog, to creating narrative marketing content for clients, to reporting news in the areas of motorcycles and scooters.
The funnest part of what I do is definitely the personal connections. Lately, I’ve been having a lot of fun going to motorcycle events and chatting with people only to find that we follow each other on Instagram.
For what it’s worth, Wil, your writing has been no small inspiration for my own, and back a few years ago when you were sharing “Get Excited and Make Things” that was just what I needed to hear.
For those who’d like to connect, I’m @Salzmoto pretty much everywhere.
Cheers,
-NS
Hi, I’m Lori, and not on twitter (but am on Plurk). Writer by trade, but not the cool type. I write user manuals. I’m also a poly-crafter, currently into knitting and quilting, but have done most of the fabric crafts out there as well as a few fine art and metal art versions. I grew up with ST:NG, and have always been a little geeky. Discovered your blog, then Tabletop, and have been incredibly happy to have your perspective to read.
Hi Wil,
My name is Jessica. I work as a writer for a couple of gaming websites, but I am also a librarian who loves to paint, read, weld, hug cats, bake delicious goodies, play roleplaying games, photograph the wide wondrous world, practice Shotokan karate, nerdy crafts, etc…etc… (i like to keep busy)
I have been following your blog and such and I have really found you to be an inspiration. A few years ago I was depressed and jobless, but watching you grow has pushed me to create my own niche in life. I have found a voice in my writing and have helped create my own board game review website. It has really been a fantastic journey of making my favorite hobbies a bigger and better part of my life.
Thank you for continuing to share your wonderful life with all of us.
P.S. you and your wife remind me so much of me and my husband. You guys are ridiculously adorable.
Miira, from Finland, here. IkiMiira on Twitter, something else on IG and Tumblr 😉 Older than you, Wil (but not by much!), and a fan since That Movie. Never too keen on TNG, but very much into scifi (books), fantasy, WoW, tabletop rpg (got back into playing after a loooong break) and other tabletop games. Lately into geocaching, too. I’m a graphic designer, married (sort of, it’s a registered partnership thingy) and have one child.
BTW, your role in Criminal Minds was something incredible. Most unsubs are forgettable unless they’re a recurring Big Bad.. but your character – whoo boy!
Hey Wil.
We met some time ago at the Dave & Busters in Orange. I was a manager there and I gave you some game cards and you were very polite to this long time Star Trek fan. I have followed you since, in various social media, fascinated, intrigued and entertained by all your creative endeavors, well done.
I shared your “Nerd” speech from YouTube with my wife, Robin. Robin is a middle school councilor. She cares about her kids so much. She actively promotes inclusiveness, self esteem, and opportunities for the kids in her school to better themselves, for their families and for the future, every day at her school. She works with like minded individuals, and she shared that video with them. They will be sharing the video with 600 or so students tomorrow at a school advisory meeting. I expect, and she expects a positive impact on all those kids. This makes me proud of my wife, and proud to be a fan of yours. Like I said earlier, well done.
All my best
Rob Enders
“Elvisbat”
P.S. I’ll post this to a couple of the social media sites I follow you on to try and be sure you see it.
Hi! My name is Mindy, and I’m a 49-year-old tech geek. I moved from the Buffalo, NY area to the southwest in my early 20s. I HATE snow! I’m technically not married but I call James my husband (I don’t plan on going anywhere!) but James still calls me his fiance. He and I co-manage a local science fiction group. We hang out, watch movies together, gab about anything and everything that interests us, and generally support each other.
I’m interested in many things: science fiction, reading, television, movies, crafting, writing, cooking, and traveling are the highlights. I have a BA in English which I received in 2004 when I was 39 years old. My original goal was a BS in Biology but a bad car accident in 2000 derailed that plan. I have various food issues and have to be gluten free, currently exploring the FODMAP diet. It’s all good; I feel so much better than I did a few years ago and now can imagine life continuing on. I’ve been cooking for myself since I was 10 years old and grew up on a whole foods, organic lifestyle so I find feeding myself without processed products easy.
I have been a medical professional for 29 years and am currently transitioning to the IT world, specializing in medical applications (networks and electronic medical records).
I love animals of all kinds but my husband has severe allergies that don’t mix well with his asthma. We have one miniature Schnauzer with enough personality to make up for the lack of furry friends.
Life is an amazing journey!
I’m Leah. I’m a 20 yo university student in Canada. I first started following your blog after seeing you on Big Bang Theory and The Guild. 🙂 I’m a bit of a nerd myself: love strategy board games (especially Settlers and Dominion), love to read, and love to think about everything and anything. Have a wonderful new year!
Hey Wil and peoples!
I’m Greg, @TVsEgon, and am a huge fan of your tv and writing. I’m a network engineer working for a large company and an also trying to get a podcast and photography business off the ground.
I’m a massive geek, from attending Creation cons back in high school in the late 80S through becoming a film nerd while working as a protectionist. I’m currently raising two young geeks, allowing them to learn properly about important things, like the fact that Han shot first.
Thanks for creating some awesome stuff, and hope to meet you again sometime here in Phoenix!

@glyphgeek here. Haven’t been on twitter for a long while, and it seems like ages since I’ve had the time for any blogs at all…. including my own!
I am a 44 year old native to Northern Michigan of German descent who read the encyclopedia for fun as a kid. My day job is an assistant executive housekeeper. The unpaid work I do stems from getting excited and making things: I am a painter, writer, blogger, budding photographer, gourmet home cook & family historian.
My primary identity though is as a Matthias Reim fan. I am also a cat whisperer, classic movie buff and fan of British and Scandinavian crime dramas and able to insert pop cultural references into most conversations at the most inappropriate times which causes a lot of stern looks at work.
I also find myself in the role of Ship’s Counselor in almost every setting that I find myself in. Sometimes this includes being a personal shopper since people seem to think that I am an employee of every store in town. It is a weird phenomenon. Does that happen to anyone else.
“Sometimes this includes being a personal shopper since people seem to think that I am an employee of every store in town. It is a weird phenomenon. Does that happen to anyone else.”
YES! Good grief, all the time. I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I choose to take it as a complement, I guess I just look competent and capable, and so must you! 😀 (Also, Viva la World Book!)
Viva la World Book! Viva la World Book Yearbooks!
Wendy, I’ve had employees mistake me for coworkers. I’m type a. If I can’t get to what I want because a bunch of other stuff is on the wrong peg I will move it to the proper peg. I guess in retail speak that is called facing. I actually had a guy tell me I could go on break when I was done with that aisle. What he did when he realized I wasn’t an employee is what we tend to call facepalming. Hi. LAR. i OUS! You know they don’t give discounts for doing there jobs? 😉
Oh, sad but true — boy, if I could convince people to give me an honorary employee discount everyplace I’ve “worked” for them, I’d have discounts all over town! I’ve never had anyone tell me to go on break, though, that IS funny. 😀 I worked in retail (bookstores) for years, and seeing things out of place makes me nuts, so I completely understand the need to put things where they belong in the process of getting to what you wanted in the first place.
Oh, wow! I love you guys! For years, I have been straightening out items in stores, particularly books out of alphabetical sequence (where that was the plan) or lingerie or sweaters all rumpled up, etc. Lately, I’ve been trying to control the urge, reminding myself that it’s not my job and it’s somehow not “healthy” for me. Self talk! Anyone want to weigh in on that?
I have been trying to stop. I remind myself that it isn’t my job and that I’m only making it easier for the slackers to slack. And sometimes, when I put a shirt back if I’ve changed my mind I try to not refold it. And I will walk away. But then about 15 minutes later I will go back and fold it. And it’s hard to not rearrange pegs when I want to get something at the back of a line.
I’m trying to get better about it. It really isn’t our job to fix it. But I’m not sure how to stop. My therapist is trying to come up with something to help combat the obsessive Type A stuff.
I know. I was kinda mad when it first happened. But then I realized the humor in the situation. I do wish that I could stop myself from doing it though.
Hi Wil (and everyone else not sitting on a cushion),
I read this post in my RSS reader while I was away on vacation and I’m happy to see that folks are still adding to it this week.
I’m Veronica. I live in Massachusetts and work for a large university where I collate paper. I’m just a couple of years younger than you and you have been an occasional companion in my life for longer than I can recall. That sounds terribly creepy, but I don’t mean it like that – you keep making things – I keep consuming those things.
I’m really glad to see and hear how well you are doing these days and I am forever grateful for all the other people and things to which I was introduced through you, from Chris Hardwick to Pandemic.
I hope you have a great new year.
Hi Wil, Hi all.
I am Dave @zeus64068. I am a disabled former construction worker who loves to build custom PC’s and root phones.
I am 41 and have been teased relentlessly all my life for saying that I am a true Wesley Crusher fanboy.
Even thougg I deal with depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. I take a little time each day to read something of Wil’s. It always makes me feel better!
I’m Kelly. When I’m not pretending to be a competitive archer (no matter how many competitions I go to, I still feel like a pretender and like someone’s gonna catch on and kick me out…) I have a normal, boring day job. I love playing board games and card games with my friends and I get migraines when I laugh too hard while playing Cards Against Humanity…
I’m married, no kids yet (hopefully in the not-TOO-distant future…)
And I love finding new groups of other strangelings that are happy in their weirdness 🙂
Hi, I’m Nick! I’m 29, married, no kids, living in the Bay Area. I moved to California for the first time in 2013 and love it out here. I do programming and analytics for a federal agency, and work from home, which I also love. I’m a big fan of Tabletop, but I’m also a homebrewer, so I think you need to post more on Devil’s Gate Brewing!
THIS IS AWESOME. I HAVE READ ABOUT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WROTE ABOUT THEMSELVES THREE TIMES NOW. THIS MACHINE TAKES ME AROUND THE WORLD AND LETS ME MEET SO MANY PEOPLE I USE TO WONDER ABOUT AS A CHILD WHEN I WANTED TO BE A NOMAD AND MEET EVERYONE ON PLANET EARTH. WHO ARE YOU AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE USE TO BE THE GAME I PLAYED BEST. I DID GET AS FAR AS HITCHING RIDES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES ON TRUCKS USING MY DAD’S NAME AS HE WAS SORT OF WELL-KNOWN IN THE TRUCKING BUSINESS. IT MADE ME SAFE AND I GOT TO SEE A LOT OF AMERICA. IN ALL THE PLACES I PASSED THROUGH I FOUND NORTH PLATTE, NEBRASKA HAD THE SWEETEST PEOPLE, BUT I NEVER FOUND A PLACE OR PERSON IN AMERICA I DIDN’T LIKE. I WANTED TO GO AROUND THE WORLD TOO, AND NOW I CAN. AM AN OLD WOMAN WHO IS A SERVICE CONNECTED VETERAN (WHICH MEANS WOUNDED WHILE ON DUTY) AND I AM A HAPPILY MARRIED GAL WITH GROWN CHILDREN WHO HAVE CHILDREN THAT HAVE CHILDREN WHO HAVE CHILDREN. BEFORE I WAS ONE OF THE ARMY’S FIRST FEMALE INFANTRY SOLDIERS I WAS AN ARTIST AND WELDER WHO DESIGNED AND MADE SIGNS, INVENTED LOGOS, AND PAINTED ONE OF A KIND RACE CARS. I HAVE WRITTEN A POEM THAT WAS MADE INTO A SONG FOR A NATIONAL GUARD UNIT. I NEVER STOPPED PAINTING AND CREATING POSTERS. MY WORK IS ALL THE UNITED STATES AND YOU HAVE PROBABLY PASSED MY LOGOS AND SIGNS OR BEEN PASSED BY SEMIS I HAVE PUT LOGOS ON YET I AM NO ONE IMPORTANT. I LIKE WIL WHEATON, BECAUSE HE IS FUNNY, AND TALENTED. I SAW A SKID HE DID WITH A FRIEND ABOUT MEETING WILLIAM SHATNER AND LAUGHED TILL I CRIED, BUT I ALSO SAW HIM AS A PERSON WHO COULD HURT AND I BECAME CURIOUS THEN DISCOVERED ANNE AND MY HEART JUST WENT OUT TO THEM THE SAME WAY IT DOES WHEN I THINK ABOUT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WITH HURTS AND THE WHOLE HUMAN THING. SOMETIMES I SWEAR I AM EVERYONE’S GRANDMOTHER, BUT IN MY MIND I AM STILL EIGHT YEARS OLD LOOKING FOR FRIENDS.

I’m Stacie. I live in Seattle with my husband of 19 years (we met in high school; that was 27 years ago!). I love horror, sci-fi, fantasy. I read, crochet, watch lots of movies and a fair amount of tv. I’m happy to see so many people answering the call for positivity on the net!
Happy New Year to all!
