Team Wheaton took a little vacation this week, to charge up our batteries before the work of the new year really gets going. So here’s a few pictures I took while we were away:
We stopped at a truck stop to get gas, and I put on this stupid stripper cowboy hat, because I thought it was silly. I was wearing my Wesley Crusher hoodie, and Anne said, “Oh my god, you’re Sparks McGee!” It wasn’t what I was going for, but, like Sparks himself, it was a happy accident.
When we got to Yosemite, the sun was about to set, and it made the valley absolutely beautiful.
I wish I could claim credit for making this magnificent Jabba Snowhutt, but alas I just walked past it.
We hiked up to Mirror Lake during some seriously heavy snowfall. I really loved how the world looked black and white.
I took the obligatory selfie, and Anne did the obligatory photobomb.
When we got back to the hotel, my boys were very tired from hiking 5 miles in the snow. I love that, even though they’re in their 20s, they are still my little guys at times like this.
It was a lovely trip, even though we almost got snowed in (that would not have been the worst thing, to be honest). I read a whole lot, played some games with the family, and relaxed with my favorite people on the planet.
All the best in the year ahead Wil, to you and yours.
😀
What a lovely post, complete with splendid snowy Yosemite photos. It’s like I got a special birthday peek of one of my favorite places on earth narrated by a truly inspirational human being. Thank you and best wishes for a delightful year ahead!
One of my favorite places on this planet with a few of the best people on this planet.
Great pics, Wil.
By the way, I wanted to let you know that I’ve received a notice from the United State Postal Service that stamps commemorating Star Trek and it’s 50th anniversary will be issued in a ceremony later this year. The only details I have so far include the url to the press release for the stamps and their corresponding description which I’ve included for you.
https://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2015/pr15_069.htm
Star Trek Details from the United States Postal Service:
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the television premiere, the new Star Trek Forever stamps showcase four digital illustrations inspired by classic elements of the television program:
The Starship Enterprise inside the outline of a Starfleet insignia against a gold background;
The silhouette of a crewman in a transporter against a red background;
The silhouette of the Enterprise from above against a green background; and,
The Enterprise inside the outline of the Vulcan salute (Spock’s iconic hand gesture) against a blue background
The words “SPACE… THE FINAL FRONTIER,” from Captain Kirk’s famous voice-over appear beneath the stamps against a background of stars. The stamps were designed by Heads of State under the art direction of Antonio Alcalá.
The stamps look terrific.
Hope you’re doing great, Wil !
I saw this on the news last week. I’m going to be sending a lot of cards and letters this year, just so I can use the stamps!
As a stamp collector, I’d certainly like to have a card with the block of four stamps attached and signed by you, Wil.
It would be a very great, very rare collectible and a wonderful example of the postal history of this nation with your endorsement, and a magnificent salute to Star Trek.
You should try to attend the first day of issue ceremony, Wil. Hundreds of your fans and stamp collectors from throughout the nation, and the world, will be in attendance, as well as the many thousands of fans seeking the stamp and first day of ceremony issued envelopes and ceremonial event materials from the United States Postal Service’s philatelic sales division. Let me know if I can help you in any way with any stamp collecting related matters prior to the event.
A specially illustrated cachet envelope should be created for you, Wil, with an illustration of Wesley on the left side of the envelope and the stamps applied to the upper right hand corner.
Your signature on the front, similar to the Elvis Presley first day cover I have on my website at http://DavidSaks.Com
Your cachet will become a very highly sought-after collectible for Star Trek fans and stamp collectors throughout the world.
Enjoy your downtime with family, Wil. It becomes more rare as time goes by…
There is no part of this post that I do not find splendiferous. Everyone looks healthy and happy, gorgeous scenery, fabulous humor, phenomenal pictures. So glad you and yours had this time together and were able to enjoy it so immensely.
So very lovely. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I felt more relaxed just by reading this post. Thanks for that. 😉
All is good.
Namaste, Sparks.
Best photo bomb ever, Anne!
That cowboy hat makes you look like a figure from the National Geographic TV series “Badlands.” In a good way! Like the kind who ensures justice always triumphs. And then, stops by the local watering hole to entertain the ladies.
Yosemite is on my proverbial bucket list. Hopefully I make it out there before the actual bucket finds me.
I want snow here in New England. Haven’t got much yet.
Lovely pictures, thanks for posting.
Don’t know how to start but… you are WIL [ANSEL ADAMS] WHEATON!!!! Plus you, Anne and the boys – that’s pure Norman Rockwell!
Going into 2016 – been around longer than I thought would ever happen – the absolute best to you and yours, this year and every year. Your trials and tribulations have meant much to me. Thank you.

It is lovely to see you and Anne both smiling. You both look wonderful.
PS I am on Season 4 of Zombies Run. You have much to look forward to, my fellow Runner 5! I signed up for the 2016 virtual, since the 2015 was so much fun on the Rofflenet forum. But no t-shirt (bummer).
What a fantastic trip.
Also, I miss snow. Sigh.
Sometimes I forget you played Wesley…fun pics. Happy new year!
I am dissapointed that you dont have a Jane home-knit cap (from Firefly)… 🙂
Adam Baldwin kind of ruined Jayne for me, sadly.
Enjoy yourself and have fun being with your family. Those are the important things in life.
I’m so grateful to NOT travel to where snow is, and to be able to cheer on TEAM WHEATON! Love the Sparks McGee pic; love the Anne photobomb; love the exhausted “boys”. If I have to cheer on a team, I choose Team Wheaton.
We loved Yosemite when we visited about 6 years ago (it only takes 14 hours of flying to get close from here)… glad you get to sit back and enjoy that with your family.
Okay, you just shamed me into the Sparksiverse for the first time ever… To which I must say both Thank You (to Sparks, for plotting my new course), and “Suck it” to Wil for adding to my already immense Backpack of Shame Full of Internet S#*&t That I Don’t Know About Yet. But I will know it when I need to, be assured. Thanks for the invite to Yosemite. I hope you gave the ghost of John Muir a lift back to L.A., he’s desperately needed there. Have a great 2016, Team Wheaton!
Sounds like those perfect days where you just look at what you have and your heart swells with pride.
Looks like you had a great visit. The last time we were at Yosemite we had snow. It was May, and we were tenting camping; you can imagine how envious I am that you got to stay at the Ahwanee! Hope you were able to take the peace and happiness back home with you!
extra cookie points for the Dr Who scarf. 🙂 Has not been cold enough here yet to wear mine this winter.
Great post. It still seems unfathomable that you have boys in their 20s! You and Anne aren’t old enough. LOL. But, I got a REALLY late start, so my reference point is off. I’m 44 and my boys are 11 and 4, so… you know… lots of coffee.
Nice Dr. Who Scarf. From a friend, a fan, bought, or self-produced?
