Gamers vs. COVID-19

My upcoming eSports competition show, Gamemaster, has been delayed like everything else, but the people involved wanted to use the resources they had already mustered for production to do some good at a moment in time when it’s so desperately needed.

So we’re organizing to 3D print what we can for our frontline healthcare workers!

“As the spread of COVID-19 continues to impact us all, GAMEMASTER takes solace in friends, family and the indomitable spirit of our players, cast,Β crew and brand partners. When Reagan Stewart, web developer and an overall tech guru for GAMEMASTER, brought the idea of our team helping to make, distribute and organize PPE for medical professionals as they experience shortages, we immediately saw a way that we could help. Thanks to our amazing and generous brand partners, we have not only been able to set up a 3D print operation in Atlanta, but, we have also developed a network for healthcare providers and first responders across the country to connect with makers in their community to get the specific PPE that they need, quickly and without cost. Thank you all!:”

I’m so proud, and so honored, to be part of this show. I’m so excited to share our first effort to join the fight against COVID-19. If you’d like to get into the fight with us, and add your resources to ours, we have a sign-up page, here.

Thank you for the post. I just a sewing machine in. I had given mine to my son a few months ago. He is making masks for his co-workers at a nuke power plant. Now I can make some also. Thank you for all you do and inspire in others.

    Hi Wil,
Just wanted to let you know that the Gamemaster link isn’t working: there’s a typo in the URL (an extra “e”).
Big fan of your work! Keep it up!

    Will,
This is excellent news! Over here in the UK, there’s folks making PPE almost like the spirit of WW2. Also, not sure if you’ve heard about –

Good to know. Our guild and streamer friends recently formed the TBC Stream Team for charitable fundraising via Twitch. I’ll pass this info on to them. This really is a great idea.

On top of making PPE – an additional thing you can do that doesn’t take too much additional effort is install Folding At Home – currently they’re using protein folding to look for more compounds that can help treat COVID-19, so if you’re watching streaming while making masks, you can have your computer chip [1] in as to helping fight the disease as well.

    [1] Pun unintended.

This is wonderful! I don’t have a 3D printer, but I got a letter from my insurance company saying they’re sending out $50 checks for each car an insured client owns because the isolation measures are causing accident rates to plunge and they want to share the joy. Is there a place where we could contribute to this effort? I’d love to pass the joy on, too. (I’m not on PayPal but I could pay via credit card or mail in a check.)

This is awesome! It makes me feel that there is still some good left in the world. I’ve shared this with an EMT friend, as I know he and his co-workers have been struggling as much as everyone else.

Thanks for spreading the word Wil! My 3d printer is currently working on a similar project through Maker Nexus churning out face masks or I’d absolutely sign up. Also, we have an open seat for out TTS Twilight Imperium game next weekend if you’re interested. πŸ˜€

    Hi Wil.

Erfindergarten, a Fab Lab here in Munich, has spent the last couple of weeks rallying makers and anybody with access to a 3D-printer to produce face-shields for local medical staff. They came up with different designs, did field testing with local hospitals to see which designs really work and have been churning out hundreds of shields which are very much appreciated by the medical community. I’m not personally involved with them, just cheering them on but I’m sure they would be glad to share ideas, designs, files, anything that could be of any help to you. You can contact them through facebook: https://www.facebook.com/makervsvirusmuc or https://www.facebook.com/erfindergarden/

    All the best, stay safe.

I don’t have a 3D printer. I do have a sewing machine, which has now broken, seventy-two masks in. I’ve outfitted two veterinary clinics, family members, and post office workers. It’s all I can do for now. Keep up the good work, everyone. Thanks, Wil.

In order to survive, I disassociated for much of my childhood, but I clearly remember the books. That's where I found comfort, companionship, inspiration and validation. It's where the imagination that powers everything I do creatively in my life today was born. And it all started in that library, with that librarian. She was one of the first people I can remember asking me, "What do you like? What's important to you? What do you want to know more about? How can I help you find it?"

Children deserve to be children. Children are not the property of their parents who can use and exploit them for their own gain. They are CHILDREN and they will spend the rest of their lives hurting because you stole that from them. Ask me how I know.
