50,000 Monkeys at 50,000 Typewriters Can't Be Wrong

I wish I really were a Traveler of all of space and time.

Posted on 29 October, 2026 By Wil

It’s only been like ten minutes since I found out, just before it hit the press, so I’m staggered and doing my best to process everything, while my phone is blowing up. There will be wonderful obituaries and reflections from so many people who knew him. I’m going to do my best to write my own, but that’s going to take a little bit.

This was taken when we filmed Journey’s End.

For now, I want the world to know that Patrick wasn’t just my captain or my castmate; he was my friend and mentor. He made me a better actor, just by being in scenes with me. He never treated me like I was a kid; he always treated me like I was an equal, a fellow artist, at a time when I wasn’t mature enough to understand how precious that was.

I haven’t seen Patrick in a long time, our lives and schedules being what they are, but I thought about him almost every day. He rarely posted in our group chat, but when he did, it always made me smile. He always texted me back when I reached out to him directly, no matter what it was about, and he always — always — made me feel special.

I wish I really were a Traveler of all of space and time, so I could go to him, one final time, and tell him how much he means to me. I think he knew, but still.

There is so much more to say, and it’s going to take me some time to say it. Until then, I loved him, the same way I love the rest of the space family we shared. May his memory be a blessing.

This is beautifully said, Wil. So very sorry for your loss. We are all going to miss him in our own way, but your loss is a personal one. Sending love and gratitude to you and your space family.

This post is how I found out. Iโ€™ve been at a funeral. When I got home and checked my email this was the first one I opened. I am profoundly sad today. Profoundly sad.

Wil, sweetie, Patrick knows how much you loved and valued him; sometimes… you don’t need to see someone in person for our love to reach them, especially when it’s deep and true.

I want you to know that all of your followers are right here with you, supporting you. Itโ€™s a terribly tough year for you, and I truly hope you can feel all the love we’re sending your way.

Stay strong, and take all the time you need to process this, even if it takes you a few days of not even logging onto social media. We will understand.

We love you, don’t forget that. A huge, huge hug from the bottom of my heart. Cry as much as you need to, because I know you will. ๐Ÿ˜”

He was truly the best of us. Time comes for us all, even when we donโ€™t want it to. Itโ€™s been a hard week, but those that are lost would want us all to carry on the best we can and keep their memory alive in our hearts.

I am so sorry, Wil. I’m sorry for the entire Star Trek family and for all of us who loved Sir Patrick. His posts everyday during Covid alone helped keep us going. My thoughts are with you and all your space family=we are better for having him in our universe.

Thinking of you and your โ€œspace familyโ€ Wil. May his memory truly be a blessing for you, as it certainly will be for all of us who experienced him in the audience. What an amazing man – an amazing human.

My heart goes out to you. It’s tough enough for me to grasp the news today, but he was part of your space family which makes it harder. May he live on in all our memories.
