Second Season of Wil Wheaton Project. Yes or No? I hope SyFy channel has the foresight to keep it going.
So for those of you who don’t know, earlier this summer, I did 12 episodes of a silly comedy show on Syfy called The Wil Wheaton Project. It was basically The Soup for people like me who enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, as well as jokes about those things. If you’d like to see a bunch of clips from the show, they’re right here on my YouTube thing.
We’re officially on hiatus right now, and we don’t know if the network will order more episodes. I know that they liked us in a creative sense, but the ratings weren’t very good (ratings are generally not very good in summer, and while I don’t believe that ratings are as important as they once were, my opinion on the matter isn’t particularly important to the decision makers), but the people who did watch us really liked us. So I won’t know for a few more weeks, but until then, I’m on hiatus, which means I get to write more, play more games, and prep for season three of Tabletop, which goes into production in October.
Part of that preparation includes finding 20 games to play on the show, and as of today, I have eight (maybe nine) that are strong contenders.
What do you want us to play on the show next year? Would you tell me the game, the publisher, and why you like it?
Keep in mind the criteria for Tabletop game selection:
- Plays well with 4 people.
-
Plays in under 90 minutes.
-
Can be generally explained in about 5 minutes.
-
Has a high ration of luck to strategy, so everyone has a chance to win the game.
-
Looks great, has clear graphical design and photographs well.
-
Is not something we’ve played before.
I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments.

I’d love to See Dominion. And day9 would be a gold guest for it, since its a deck building game. Puerto Rico I also like very much and has a nice different touch.
Chrononauts or “What’s He Building in There?”
Sushi Go!
I think a game of Chrononauts could be a lot of frustrating fun.
Will. How about a few games from Grant Wilson’s Rather Dashing Games played your show Table Top!
I would love to see some Sentinels (cards or tactics), or after Gencon Lords of Xidit. Not sure how filming the programming would work but its a blast!
Anything from Rather Dashing Games
Like rather dashing games!!!
Survive!
Samurai Sword
Power Grid
King Of New York, Forbidden Desert, one of the Pandemic expansions, Pyramix (maybe on a show with a collection of smaller games), Smallworld Underground, and RoboRally would be really fun to watch you guys play!
I tmight be too quick for a single-game episode but I love Hanabi, I know its co-op game, but I think there’s some place for those?
As a more conventional game, Jamaica is also really nice to look at.
Another quick play possibility would be Indigo.
Downfall of Pompeii. Moby dick,or the card game.
I know it’s a slightly older game, but Looney Labs’ Chrononauts is a personal fave.
I would really like to see you play one of the Cryptozoic deckbuilder games. DC deckbuilder might fit the show best, but I think the Lord of the Rings deckbuilder has slightly more interesting mechanics. I recommend avoiding the Street fighter deckbuilder for the show as it adds a few extra rules twists to fit the theme better that I think have a negative impact on the fun of the gameplay.

Rather Dashing Games: Pirates, Ninjas, Robots & Zombies or Dwarven Miner.
Dark Tower, nerds.
1000 Blank White Cards

Zombiecide and Shadowrun: Crossfire are probably my favourite games at the moment that fit your criteria. Both have a great roleplaying element that would be lots of fun with the right guests.
A preface: I do lots of playing with kids, so cooperative games figure highly onto my list of favorite games. That said…
Robo Rally, which has been suggested several times
Sentinels of the Multiverse (which is possibly my 9-year-old’s favorite game to play)
Scotland Yard or any of its descendents
Incan gold (which may not film well, unfortuantely)
either Flash Point or Mice & Mystics
Bohnanza ? (it’s been a long time since I played, but I’m working my way through handouts for a course I’m running through my local park district and that came to mind in setting up a week of trading games
Pit probably plays too quickly and chaotically for the show.
I’d love to see you play Libertalia.
There is strategy in it but as everyone has the same cards at the start of each turn, it’s also a lot of luck based on who plays what (in a similar sense to Get Bit). Pirate based card game all about getting the most booty; I picked it up fairly quickly and we got through a 5 player game easily with 3 of us never having played it ☺
There’s a drinking game/rpg out called Drinking Quest. The cards act as the GM and there are a couple quests to embark on. It works equally well without the drinking if you guys don’t want to. It has a couple expansions and has a lot of humorous cards. The length of the games are generally up to you. http://www.drinkingquest.com/
Galaxy Trucker – I haven’t played it yet, but from what I hear, it would be well suited to the show’s criteria. My favs at the moment are Game of Thrones (ruley & long) and Le Havre (not good for groups of 4+)
Mansions of Madness Please and thank you!
Innovation
How about the little card game Illuminati by Steve Jackson Games. It’s easy to explain, 4 or more players and lots of goofy fun.
Also try “Evil Ted “,but Steve Jackson Games too.
Both hilarious and lots of fun. These need little equipment. JuSt the card deck maybe some dice, your buds and get ready to howl laughing.

There’s the little problem of Evil Ted not actually existing at present.
HeroQuest? Might run a bit long, might be over in 10 minutes with everyone dead twice….
Oh, also Dead of Winter – fun new zombie survival scenario game, pretty fun if you’re not yet completely tired of zombies.
Princes of Florence
Tokaido. The game of travel along Japan’s Great East Road. Win by having the most enlightening trip (score the most points by shopping, visiting vistas, meeting interesting travelers, etc.). Decadently beautiful, sneaky simple, and sooo Japanese.
Rather Dashing Games and Grant Wilson.
Cosmic Encounter!
ROFL! by John Kovalic
Any of Flying Frog’s other games you haven’t done yet
A two-parter of Descent from Fantasy Flight
Dead Panic or Munchkin Panic by Fireside
Euphoria by Stonemaier Games (though it might be on the complex side)
Pathfinder Adventure Card Game
Shadowrun Crossfire
Red Dragon Inn
Space Cadets Dice Duel (though it may be a bit chaotic to film)
King of New York
Netrunner
A Game of Thrones
Letters from Whitechappel (though it’s a 1 vs rest of the table game)
Any of the Dungeons & Dragons Adventure games (Castle Ravenloft, Legend of Drizzt, Wrath of Ashardalon)
The table top x-com game. I don’t know if it is any good, but just looks cool. And as a fan of X-Com, I am interested to see it played. It is by Fantasy Flight Games, which have lots of other Star Wars ones and such that look fun too after looking at the site.

Roll For It by Calliope (which I know Boyan was talking about considering at GenCon)
Trains
Mai-Star by AEG
Gravwell
Rampage – Er, “Terror in Meeple City” by Asmodee
Coup (with Reformation)
Flash Point: Fire Rescue by Indie Boards and Cards
Great Heartland Hauling Company by Dice Hate Me Games
Sentinels of the Multiverse is fun, doesn’t take too much playtime, and has some really sweet graphics!
Ghost Stories
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/37046/ghost-stories
Four taoist monks fending off evil spirits for a small town comprised of nine tiles.
Hanabi would be incredibly entertaining. Sentinels of the Multiverse would be cool. And I know you’ve done a storytelling game but I’d love to see Tales of the Arabian Nights.
Ophir, I demoed it at Gen Con and it was a lot of fun with 4 people. Easy to explain, and high risk/reward.
Ascension over Dominion
Domaine (by Klaus Teuber … same guy who made Settlers of Catan)
Cosmic Encounter
Junta
Killer Bunnies
Kolejka, “Queue”. Commonly called “Communist Monopoly” but is short and intriguing: Communist Poland, stand in line to buy your grocery items. Complete your shopping list to win. If there are deliveries… Also players disrupt the queue with various cards. Heck, I’ll even lend you mine.
Five Tribes – One of the top games at GENCON
Mice and Mystics – One for the younger crowd
Nothing Personal by Game Salute
Eldritch Horror by Fantasy Flight Games
Gammarauders!!
Power Grid!
How about Marvel Legendary, with expansions?
Rather Dashing Games and Grant Wilson!!!!
Miskatonic School for Girls
I suppose getting a game of Attack Wing going on would be a good idea. – You can highlight the differences a bit by playing the 3 player style games / scenarios (maybe in teams of 2?), or have someone on their own playing a borg cube.
Admittedly, my own vote would be really be for Ultimate Dreadball, but that’s straying far too much into wargaming territory for Tabletop, same with other mantic games.
How about a dungeon crawler? Descent?
Spyrium, Killer Bunnies, any deck building game.
If none of these work, I don’t know… Poker?
Spyrium could be good but it might be a bit too long?
