From the most recent Radio Free Burrito’s show notes:
- This show’s theme music is Blank Space, by Taylor Swift.
- The videos for Style and Wildest Dreams are so good.
- Tove Lo’s Queen of the Clouds is the first pop concept album I think I’ve ever heard.
- I did not expect to love the Mocking Jay Part One soundtrack, and yet.
- TV Crimes is a new podcast I do with Mikey Neumann.
- The Battle for Zendikar is going to be a really fun set to play.
- Your long wait to have 13 minutes of commercials from Little Rock radio in 1971 has come to an end.
- The Memory Palace is amazing.
- You Must Remember This is your new favorite podcast.
- There is not a single crystalline entity in Lore.
- Easy Riders, Raging Bulls is an incredible book. I also just found out that it was made into a movie and now I have to see it IMMEDIATELY.
- You can watch The Trip on YouTube.
- You can see some wonderfully weird Kenneth Anger films there, too.
- John Waters is my hero.
- Leadbelly’s Where Did You Sleep Last Night? is really great.

A few weeks ago you mentioned “You Must Remember This” on Twitter and therefore I hold you personally responsible (along with Karina Longworth) for HOURS OF BINGE JOY! Thank you!
I second that! I am so hooked. ..finished up the world war 2 ‘star wars’ casts now I am on to the fascinating weirdness and insanity of Manson…so fun and we’ll done!
I am LOVING TV Crimes. I had so much fun photoshopping you and Mikey as Butch and Sundance even tho it’s not as good as it probably could’ve been, but I loved that intro/outro music for the podcast so much I just had to. 🙂
I loved that, as well.
Thanks for the recommendations! This is actually the first time I’ve listened to Blank Space. Wild. Lol. The Memory Palace looks interesting! I’ll have to listen later when I have more time. 🙂
I’m loving the TV Crimes podcast.
I was the target audience for 90210 as I was 16 in 1990. Everyone my age was watching it. I re-visted the show in 1996 and I realized how cringeworthy a lot of the episodes were. You had a lot of material to choose from. One that I remember was called “Ashes to Ashes”. A black family moves into the neighborhood. Brandon takes their daughter (Vivica A. Fox!) out on a date. When the others seem them together, they tell Brandon, “Oh, you’re so progressive!” Ugh.
The Trip! I was wondering what happened to that movie. I saw it in the theater on its first release. Someone on the YouTube comments (I only read a couple, I swear) said it was “boring.” So is the Grateful Dead if you’re not listening in … umm … the proper state of mind.
I’ve only seen The Trip sober (I don’t use any mind-altering things, not that there’s anything wrong with that) and I’ve enjoyed the hell out of it.
I never listened to that vid till today. lol thanks for sharing i like it too lol hehe 🙂
I don’t think skipping between Wu Tang and Black Flag is that odd when you consider the message. Late 80s/early 90s hip hop is kind of like the punk rock to old school hip hop’s glam metal; the latter category more deals with having fun and parties, the former has a social or political message. Hell, the Beastie Boys ran the gambit between the hardcore and hip hop throughout their career.
On Haim: I’m very glad to hear you dug them, the girls are some of the best whom I’ve worked with in the concert venue business. Their show in a 1000-person club venue is just as great as you’re imagining, you can feel the lyrics’ emotions a lot better in the raw, rock feeling of a live intimate show. I highly recommend finding them on their next tour if they’re still booking that size of rooms.
And I may be a little spoiled on John Waters since I live in Baltimore. Everybody here in the arts scene has their own odd, fantastic John Waters story. He does a Christmas live show every year, it looks like it’ll be in San Diego on November 30th this year if you don’t want to come over to Maryland to see it.
Oh, and I listened to the first TV Crimes episode and I enjoyed it. I’ll have to download the second one today.
[/super long post]
You can love Easy Riders, but there’s another book you should check out. Blockbuster by Tom Shone which takes a fun and kind of opposite tack. Interesting comparison.
Thanks for the recommendation! For $2.99, that was an insta-buy to put onto my Kindle.
Speaking of the casual racism on beloved 90s television fictions, you guys ought to review some of The X-Files shows. Especially the ones that’re focused on Magic-Native-Americans. Do it! …If you dare…
Just finished listening to ARMADA. I have loved books since I was a child, and you are an EXCELLENT reader. Loved how you brought the characters to life, even the Stephen-Hawking-like computer voice. Awesome job!
Thank you Wil.
Jolly good show Mr Wheaton. Haim is awesome… love’em.
You say this episode was for you but I got a lot of new perspectives on some things. Thanks for that.
Dear Will, I will definitely have an ear for TV Crimes. Thank you for making me discover You Will Remember This: I’m hooked!
Oh, and on my personal list, I have Titansgrave up the top. Can’t wait for next season (I hope there will be one).
Cheers from France!
I love hearing your recommendations, so please making them. I also love hearing your thoughts on things from your perspective. Yours is unique both because you’re you and because you’re a sensitive and caring person. Thanks for being courageous and sharing some personal despite the dicks having a go at you. You’re awesome too
Thanks so much for making. Keep making things. I think a lot about the creative process and how it works and how sometimes you can’t just talk and think about the creative process. Forcing oneself to create (whether it be by external deadline or internal force-of-will) makes things. Sometimes things help make the world a better place. Actually, I believe that’s usually the case whether you know it or not. What you send out helps people – whether it be discover a new podcast or book or movie or something else. So thanks for doing it.
Thought you might like this
While watching it I thought: “Hmmm, this guy has seen some of Ken Anger’s stuff” – and at that exact moment – blip an almost subliminally quick shot of Anger’s Egyptian Sun Goddess, no doubt in hommage…
