It’s Wednesday (it’s only Wednesday? It’s only Wednesday.) and that means we have a new podcast for you!
This week, it’s The Hidden Heart of Brass Attending, by Christopher Scott. Here’s my introduction:
The heart wants what it wants, and it will fight for it with a passion and fury that is unimaginable until you fall in love and feel it for yourself.
Today, I’ll take you to a time when a fulfilling a heart’s most intimate desire could lead to prison or worse. A time when the truth of who you loved had to be hidden away in the most secretive places. A time when even the most powerful men could be destroyed with a carefully uttered whisper.
You are about to meet one of those men, at a moment of great consequence in his life, a moment when his heart’s desire is at his fingertips, if only he can grasp a cold, brass hand and find The Hidden Heart of Brass Attending.
Fun fact: Christopher Scott is one of my oldest friends. He’s been writing since we were teenagers, so when On Spec bought this story, we celebrated. I thought it would be cool to narrate it and send it to him, as a way of congratulating him and marking the milestone. I was opening Audacity to do just that when the idea that became It’s Storytime exploded out of the same place that birthed Tabletop. It has taken a lot longer than I expected, and the thing I planned to give my friend is now something I’m giving all of you. I trust that you all know how to share.

As usual, a wonderful story! Thank you!
I wait for every Wednesday like a dog waits for its next bone. The work week is a slog and It’s storytime helps get me over the hump. Thank you Wil for being awesome and putting kindness into the world.
Regarding Tabletop – Have you ever been able to tell the story of how that went away? It seemed like an idea that was ahead of it’s time and launched a thousand imitators, so I was saddened when you were unable to continue. I got the vibe that someone saw money and screwed you out of the IP, but you’ve never gone into detail. Can you comment?
The whole story is just so stupid. It’s just a bunch of shitty people being shitty because they can. Weak men with fragile egos, who need to feel powerful.
I don’t think I can say more than that.
I have looked into doing something that was similar, yet legally distinctly different from Tabletop, and whenever I get close to doing it, I feel like I’m too old, I don’t have the energy I once did, and I’d rather invest my limited energetic and artistic resources into writing more fiction.
Maybe try FRP games instead of Tabletop games? I would pay actual money to watch you, Felicia Day, and any of the other usual suspects that were available run a season long D&D or Pathfinder campaign. Just sayin’.
So beautifully written .
I loved this one. Actually, all good so far. Thank you.
I’m sorry for asking here, but I couldn’t find another non-social media way to reach out to you.
I tried to subscribe to the Patreon. I really want this endeavor of yours to last. However, other than buying myself a 12 month gift subscription, I couldn’t find an option for making an annual purchase. Is that possible?
I don’t know the answer to that. I have a producer helping me with Patreon, because the creator side of it is different than the subscriber side. I’ll ask them, and get back to you.
Ah, I have the answer!
As I suspected, we don’t have a year’s worth of stuff to offer, so we aren’t accepting yearly subscriptions until we do. If you want to support me (thank you so much) a monthly subscription is the way to go.
We will know in a few weeks if there’s enough interest to keep going. That’s not just from the audience; it’s advertisers and potential sponsors, too. I know we have something special, and I know that the audience loves it. The only question we don’t have the answer to, yet, is how much of an audience is there for something like this, and can we get enough of them to subscribe.
I especially enjoyed this week’s story. I SO look forward to having a story read to me on my commute each Wednesday. Thanks so much for this. The podcast brightens my day.
So I have a really really stupid joke but as it involves Blondie and TNG, I have to share it with you, plus I think you are probably the kind of dude who likes groaner jokes:
So It’s Karaoke Night on the Enterprise and Riker dedicates a Blondie song to Picard: “The tide is high / but I’m holdin’ on / I’m gonna be your / Number One … “
